Beach Town Hideaway

- Wheel chair accessible:No
The "Hideaway" is a seperate unit, a backyard 'granny-flat' that's about 750sq. feet -living space. You have two seperate bedrooms, a kitchenette/living area plus bathroom. Freshly remodeled, this 'beach close' charmer looks out upon a secluded garden and lawn with badminton and loads of flowers. Eclectic is the feeling. Attention to 'creature comforts' and simplicity was the intention when renovating[Italian and Mexican tile accents, hardwood floors...] . An ajoining [but completely private] second bedroom is generously sized and includes a double bed. The kitchenette and living area overlooks the lawn and garden area.. . NO SMOKING in house or on the grounds.
We see the situation as most attractive to couples, or couples with children, looking for a peaceful setting within a short walk of our little beach town and our great beaches- a sample of Southern California beach living.
We are located in one of north San Diego County's oldest neighborhoods, the Highlands of Encinitas. A 10 to 15 min. walk and you will find yourself in the quaint seaside town. Ethnic dining is big; great Italian, Peruvain, Thai etc., etc.- Encinitas seems to be on the cutting edge of the "conscious life-style" movement so health minded options abound. While the beach and ocean remain the main attractions, our town is 'coming of age' you might say and it's all just a short walk away.
Return to the tranquility of your secluded and cozy garden cottage. If it feels like a fit, drop in and give us a try, maybe you'll become a regular.

This was a great place for our anniversary get away. The cottage is very clean, peaceful and comfortable. Tony & Carol are kind & courteous hosts and make you feel at home while providing all the privacy & space you want on a vacation. Lots to do within easy reach: Moonlight Beach, Encinitas, Padres Game via the Coaster (BYOB train ride to the game, safe ride home from the game), SD Zoo, Farmers Markets in Encinitas & Little Italy, Kayaking in La Jolla Cove w/ sea lions & dolphins, S Cali wine country in Temecula, Anza Borrego Desert Hiking to Palm Canyon Oasis, Juilian (think Apple Pie), Cleveland National Forest (ride through on way to Julian and Anza Borrego for a great day trip), cool shops everywhere, great restaurants in Encinitas (from Sports Bar to Mexican, to Pizza to Peruvian), Potato Shack for Breakfast, Steaks on the grill in the beautifully landscaped yard, Coronado, Ocean Beach and on and on. This place just fits right in. Off street parking too for 1 vehicle. We skipped the hotel and uptight condo scene and had no regrets. The 1360 characters I have remaining for this review just can't do it justice. Enjoy!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We just spent the week in the Casita. What a lovely place- the backyard is simply wonderful, calming, relaxing, beautiful. Carol and Tony were fantastic, gave us a lot of great suggestions and just fun conversation, but we had plenty of privacy. The Casita is very clean, nicely decorated and comfortable. The pictures just don't do it justice. The area is great. It is not a far walk into downtown Encinitas, but it is a hilly walk! We loved the Beachside Bar and Grill, Potato Shack and all the great shops. Moonlight and Swami beaches are great. Make sure to make the pilgrimage to see the sunset. We can't wait to go back again!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Our family, with one 6 year old, had a wonderful time at the cottage. All of the descriptions were accurate- and it was even better than we had expected! The owners were very helpful, the place was sunny, comfortable, very clean and up to date, and quiet. The backyard is lush and beautiful, and the badminton set was a source of continuing fun for our granddaughter. We loved watching the surfers, walking the beaches, and exploring some of the area attractions. It was an easy place to get to, yet very private. We loved the zoo, Safari Park, and Sea World- they were an easy drive. We would definitely come back again and recommend it highly.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway.

I have been remiss in writing a review on this wonderful property. I was fortunate to spend a month last summer in Tony and Carol's casita and it was an outstanding experience. The property is even nicer than the pictures, had everything I needed for the month's stay, and it was clean, comfortable and private. The back yard was beautiful and a peaceful place for an outdoor breakfast or a serene setting for a evening glass of wine. It was a perfect escape from the busy town center, and yet the town and wonderful beach were minutes away and very accessible. But what made my stay exceptional were the owners, Carol and Tony. They were warm and caring, very accommodating, always willing to share information, recommendations and ideas, yet considerate of my privacy. You couldn't ask for better "landlords." They are an amazing couple. I hope to spend many more months in this delightful spot in the future, and highly recommend it to anyone who wants a charming, peaceful getaway.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway.

We recently stayed at the nicely decorated, homey casita/Hideaway for a family vacation and had a wonderful time. The Hideaway was the perfect size for our family of four with everything we needed for a relaxing stay. Tony and Carol were gracious hosts - loaning us boogie boards and a surfboard for the beach. We enjoyed coffee in the morning in the backyard oasis by the water fountain, used the grill to cook fresh fish from Seaside Market and our girls had a great time playing badmitten in the backyard. We hope to return in the near future and extend our stay. Thanks for the retreat!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children.

We've vrbo'd all over the world, but this was a true haven. The trailing flowers, musical chimes, and relaxing atmosphere were blissful to return to after a day of exploring. Everything was just right with the casita--from the well appointed kitchenette to the comfy bed, wide glass dining table, and roomy shower. It didn't take any time to feel right at home. Tony and Carol are just as everyone has described--warm, generous, happy, easy people. They gave us our space but were more than ready to help if any questions came up. This is classic California at its best. Encinitas has a great, laid-back surf vibe but enough to keep you busy, with beaches, surfing, and delicious food. And it's also a great spot to explore more of San Diego county from. It was hard to go home! Many thanks for sharing your good piece of Earth--we'll be back for sure.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

We returned to Encinitas for the first time since we sold our home there in 2006. Carol and Tony's Beach Town Hideaway was exactly what we were looking for: quiet, private, convenient, clean, comfortable and perfectly stocked for visitors. We felt right at home. Although there was nothing that could have made our stay better Carol and Tony were always ready to assist. We sleep great and woke to the sound of chirping birds. The location is excellent and provides easy access to the fabulous beaches, shopping and restaurants (our favorites spots are Pannikin, Las Olas, La Especial Norte, Hansen's Board Shop and Beacon's Beach). We would recommend Carol & Tony's Beach Town Hideaway to anyone looking for a quiet stay in a classic San Diego beach community.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

We stayed in this little casita for nearly a week and loved every day we were there. Tony and Carol were great hosts. We rented bikes for a portion of the time we were there and was able to get around the town very easily. Most of the time we just walked everywhere if we were to go out to dinner or the beach. This casita is just over the hill from downtown encintas and a 5 min walk to the beach and coaster train.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

About the owner: Your hosts Carol and Tony Hyde have resided in the local community since the early seventies. Carol, a nurse and psychotherapist, is an avid ocean kayaker and hiking enthusiast. Why the Owner Chose Encinitas:
We both were drawn to Encinitas for the same reason- its' laid back Southern California charm. Through the years we have enjoyed sharing the many attributes of our location with our friends and family and have recently decided we would like to expand that pool to include guests through VRBO.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Primarily we offer a quiet space for our guests that is within comfortable walking distance from the beach and town. We enjoy maintaining our cottages' gardenlike setting and look forward to offering a tranquil and relaxed atmosphere to those who are drawn to come.
