Aloha Cottage: Tropical Splendor in Carmel

Carmel by the Sea meets "Tommy Bahama". This newly remodeled cottage sits on the grounds of the private Aloha estate. It took 2 years and $5,000,000 to recreate this British empire property, that is shared by the Aloha Estate, VRBO #294760 and the Aloha cottage. Whether it is the flowering vines on the main residence or the giant ferns shading the cottage you will wonder if indeed the tropic splendor of 1880's Singapore has come to coastal elegance that is Carmel by the Sea.
Our long time business clients or new friends can stroll the quiet rose gardens or enjoy a private moment on the the over 2,000 sq. ft. of stone patios. Is it the tropical cabana or the slate roof lines that provide the perfect backdrop to a second honeymoon or long awaited get-a-way. Is it "feet up" at the outdoor fireplace or a glass of 2006 Lockwood Chardonay that gives pause in the lush surroundings to contemplate the blessings of success?
A grove of day lilies escorts you as you walk down the path overlooking Aloha cottage. Sago palm and "kangaroo flowers" lap the walk as the entry fountain whispers its greeting. As you enter the double french doors you are surrounded by the serenity that at once says "Relax" and also "welcome home". Or enter through the silver-green quartz patio adjoining the entertainment area. Our lower drive preferred drop off allows all guests easy access.
Remodeled in a British Empire style the 600 sq ft. cottage is lined with cherry cabinetry with rattan accented furnishings. Whether it is a cup of Great Northern coffee (our favorite) or a light dinner of poached salmon with a Pinot Grigo reduction, the utility kitchen with microwave, dishwasher and refrigerator is up to the task. But with the likes of Crab Benedict from Katy's Place or the Titanic Sushi platter courtesy of Sushi Heaven calling, you may opt for a stroll downtown instead. Enjoy a crackling fire upon your return as the firelight shimmers off the Asian inspired glass tiles or watch "Memoirs of a Geisha" for the third time on one of two flat screen T.V.s. You drift off to sleep in the queen bed among overstuffed pillows, nested under a down comforter. Are the kids along? They can settle down in the queen sofa sleeper in the adjoining living room. Morning is greeted with a warming shower in the Bali decor bathroom.
Aloha Estate is located in a secluded off of Ocean Avenue. It often escapes the chilly afternoon fog, yet is only a 10 minute walk to downtown. In line with Carmel Valley, the Estate benefits from its warming breezes, allowing one to enjoy a BBQ on its stone patios or a lounge with a good book. Its expansive gardens back to the Carmel Mission trial leading to the Mission itself, a 15 minute walk away!

My husband and I stayed at the Aloha Cottage to celebrate our 28th anniversary. It is a beautiful home on a very nicely landscaped property. The cottage is so warm and welcoming with everything you could need. The cottage is very close to town with all the great shops and restaurants - and of course - the amazing beaches. We hadn't been to Carmel in many years and had forgotten how beautiful and lush it is. We enjoyed walking through town enjoying the ambience. We had a great dinner at Porta Bella and yummy breakfasts at Katie's twice. One night we brought food back to the cottage from the deli in town. We did the 17-mile drive and enjoyed the beautiful coastline. We spent one day in Monterey - just a short drive from Carmel. Martin was very attentive to our needs; he and Susan are wonderful hosts! Our only regret is that we couldn't spend more time at the cottage!Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

My husband surprised me on our 15th anniversary by whisking me away to this beautiful vacation home. To be able to disengage from all things high-speed while enjoying the breathtaking surroundings of Carmel from this incredibly inviting cottage was a special gift for which I was so thankful. This busy mom of four was ecstatic! We picnicked and read leisurely at the nearby beach, strolled along the charming downtown area, went hiking at Big Sur, and enjoyed some great local cuisine. The home itself was like a five-star guest house: immaculate, luxurious, and so tranquil in the midst of towering redwoods framing the amazing backyard patio. What a memorable anniversary we had!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, people with disabilities, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

To celebrate our birthdays, my wife and I enjoyed a lovely stay in the cozy Aloha Cottage. Though only a short, scenic walk to bustling downtown Carmel, the cottage is quiet, private, and romantic. Located in a beautifully landscaped garden adjacent to the spectacular Aloha Estate, the cottage features comfortable furnishings, a wonderful wood burning fireplace, and a private patio with a barbeque. My wife and I had at great weekend and we look forward to visiting the Cottage again in the near future.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

The Aloha Cottage -- minutes from downtown Carmel and Pebble Beach -- is a great location for honeymooners looking to relax for the week. For the adventurist type, a hike along the coast or a bike ride along the 17 Mile Drive is the perfect fit. Since we were looking to lay low as honeymooners, we enjoyed the amenities the cottage had to offer. Opening the windows and lighting a fire in the fireplace created the perfect ambiance. The house is centrally located, within walking distance of shops, great restaurants, and the beach. The kitchen is well stocked, making it a great place for those who are interested in preparing meals. All in all, a great fit and great price for a truly romantic and luxurious experience. We are already planning our next trip back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with young children, romantic getaway.

Why the Owner Chose Carmel By the Sea:
Prior to purchasing the Aloha Estate, # 294760 and Aloha cottage, #294846 my wife and I had visited Carmel for almost 30 years. Being a real estate developer in N. California and Hawaii, I was "picky" about property. We started seriously looking 5 years ago, when my wife found this property it had actually been taken off the market. Though it was in need of much updating I loved the location and my wife appreciated the interior "bones". With our background of developing in Hawaii we decided to do a rendition of a British empire "fusion", our version of British estates found throughout Singapore, Hong Kong and the Philippines. 2 years and $5,000,000 later, we hope that we succeeded!
