The Santistevan Hacienda is truly a hidden treasure for your family vacation, under the ancient cottonwoods to offer 'eco' air conditioning and winter warmth. This beautiful, classic, rambling 3000+ square foot, adobe home has been carefully restored to keep its original charm. Located on a dead end road in a walled large lot the hcienda feels very secluded, yet it's a short walk to
the plaza.It has 3 well-spaced bedrooms for privacy and lots of room for your family to spread out and enjoy the land of enchantment. From the minute you drive into the big walled frontyard under the giant cottonwoods with a circular driveway for lots of off street parking, you will feel at home.
You can walk about 4 blocks to the old Taos Plaza to enjoy award winning restaurants and even free Thursday night local music in the summers. The world class Taos Ski Valley is only about a half hours drive and there is a golf course about 20 minutes south of town.
Ojo Caliente hot springs resort is about an hours drive, and the lovely Enchanted Circle drive takes you around Mt. Wheeler, New Mexico's largest mountain. There are several rafting companies to take in the exciting Rio Grande rapids, and the 800 ft. Rio Grande bridge is a major local attraction.
The great room living area has a large screen TV, big fireplace, and a separate reading area, with an oak round table that can accommodate up to 12 people with the extra leaves. There is even a piano . The large gourmet kitchen has a Wolf stove and is fully stocked down to the blenders and spices (we love to cook too!)
There is another fireplace by the kitchen dining area, and a separate laundry area. The 3 covered portals are roomy with swings and benches, and the large fenced backyard has room for kids or dogs. The hot tub will amaze you with the New Mexico stars, and the gas grill has lots of room to cook for a whole family. There is a large circular driveway for safe off street parking to accommodate 6 cars.
The private bedrooms.: The master bedroom is located off the kitchen next to the fireplace and has its own full bath. We have yummy bamboo sheets and down pillows in each room. The second queen room is off the east wing on the far end of the hall way. You can wake up to the church bells! The third bedroom has a twin trundle bed with another twin underneath. It has its own 1/2 bath with a toilet and sink. There is also a double futon in the large living area.

My husband, 9 month-old, and I (Philadelphia) met my in-laws (Ohio) and brother (California) in Taos for a January ski vacation and stayed at this amazing house, which was everything we could have hoped for. The kitchen is especially amazing and well-appointed. Heated floors to die for. Awesome, big hottub. A kitchen fireplace in the morning during coffee and oatmeal before hitting the slopes. A large living room for boardgames in the evenings. Walking distance to the square. Plenty of parking. Two blocks from the main road through the city, making it easy as pie to get going and hit the slopes on time. Really, it was awesome. Thanks for having such a warm and inviting house, would highly, highly recommend!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, people with disabilities, families with teenagers, pet owners, adventure seekers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We are so thankful to Joe and Kitty for offering this unbelievably beautiful home as a vacation rental! Our two families of four absolutely loved our time in the Santistevan Hacienda in Taos! This home is very loved and has everything that you could ever need for a perfect get away. My main concern when booking it for our group of eight was that we would be crowded, but I shouldn't have worried! It had the coziest feeling while being large enough for us to all spread out and have our own space. The heart of the home is definitely the kitchen where we spent many hours enjoying conversations around the fireplace while watching the snow fall on our teenagers in the courtyard hot tub! Probably my favorite feature of the house was the heated floors as I was amazed at the warmth while walking bare foot on tile when it was 5 degrees outside! Santistevan Hacienda in in the perfect location on a dead end quiet street with an easy walk to shops, restaurants, etc. Joe and Kitty are amazing and made our vacation perfect. Kitty is a beautiful soul and a pleasure! We thank you so much for making our stay so enjoyable. We loved our August week in the Santisteven hacienda. Every detail was prepared for our arrival--from hot tub to towels aplenty to fulled stocked kitchen utensils and appliances. All we had to suppoly was our family and the food. It truly felt like home, which made it a special place to cook and share meals and conversation and games and walk to the plaza and beyond. We love the fresh air of Taos--patio doors open all day and open windows in every room for perfect sleeping temperatures. Our owner made a special effort to be sure the piano was in tune, to which we added voices, a sax and harmonicas. That piano really got a workout. We can sincerely recomend this home for families who enjoy any of the activities mentioned above.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I recommend this beautiful home without reservation. It's perfect for a family that would enjoy staying in a home that has obviously been cherished for years. The kitchen has everything a chef would require and it is all in perfect working order. Renters will fine the home clean and well maintained and the owner is very charming and easy to work with. The house's location is within easy walking distance to the Taos plaza which too has charm and is filled with businesses that have much to offer.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We (six adults & 2 children) spent Christmas 2011 in this fabulous home. What a joy it was to walk in to a festively decorated home with heated floors and a fire ready to be lit. The hacienda has a beautiful soul, it feels very loved and cared for, it's as though you are staying with old friends. Only a short walk to the Plaza and on a very quiet street. The property seems very large but also very intimate. The kitchen is a jewel, easy to work in and all the pots and pans you could ever use. We cooked a large Chrstmas Eve dinner with no problems and everyone helped. Kitty was a delight to work with, she answered all of my questions and even found us a last minute babysitter for an adult night out at the Bavarian. Taos ia a magical place, the people, the pace, the spirit, are all enchanting. Most of us skied everyday, TSV is fantastic, steep and deep. We can't wait to go back! PS- thanks to Bob for meeting us at the house and baking us a yummy cake for Xmas Eve, so thoughtful.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with young children, people with disabilities, families with teenagers, pet owners, adventure seekers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We loved staying a week over Spring Break with our family of four. The location was great because it was so close to the Plaza. Our family found the home very comfortable and very relaxing. We loved the hot tub and building a fire in the fire pit each evening. The owners were also very helpful to make our stay wonderful.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, pet owners, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This property has everything you will need to have a spectacular vacation. The house is gorgeous, clean and very well-equipped. Kitty and her husband are wonderful hosts. This was our first time in Taos and we had a great time over the Christmas and New Years holidays. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property to anyone interested in skiing, shopping, site-seeing and just plain relaxing. We had stayed at another house owned by Kitty and Joe in Arroyo Seco and they had encouraged us to try the downtown house. What a fabulous place to stay! The house is spacious, elegant and so very easy to live in. The art work is special and there are many nice amenities... heated floors, big windows, great adobe architecture. There are fabulous fireplaces, a huge functional kitchen and a backyard that has fabulous cotton wood trees, a huge courtyard and a great hot tub. It is easy to walk to the plaza. We want to spend Christmas there! The doggies loved it too. T&PRecommended for: Tourists without a car, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This was a wonderful spot for our annual girls' getaway this summer. The location is great--about 5-10 minutes to walk to the plaza--and the home itself is beautiful. It is extremely spacious, and the surroundings are lovely. Family and I rented the property for Spring Break 2010. Correspondence and payment arrangements were quick and convenient. Kitty and Joe met us upon arrival and went through the property with us. The house was comfortably furnished, clean and well maintained. Additionally, the property had everything we needed and more, including linens, towels, kitchen utensils, firewood, etc.... We had a group of six. Despite this there was plenty of room for everyone to spread out and enjoy their own space with plenty of space left over to accomodate a bigger group. The house was conveniently located to town. In fact it was snowing one night and so we walked with the kids through the snow to the Taos Inn. It was a relatively short walk to the plaza. The walk in the snow was magical. Would definitely stay here again. Can't wait to come back in the summer.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I have lived in the Taos area for over 35 years. We love the location in town on the dead end street that is relatively quiet and close to town so we can enjoy walking everywhere.

The best feature of the large home is the room to spread out. With 3 separate wings of the house you have all the privacy you could want with even a large family or group of 7 to 8. There are 3 private patios (a.k.a. 'portals) with swings to enjoy the gardens with your morning coffee, or evening cocktails.It is also wonderful to be so close to town that you can easily walk or ride your bikes to galleries, museums, bookstores, shopping and many fine restaurants and clubs. There is even free music on the plaza by local bands with lots of local color, not to be missed on summer Thursday nights. Once you are enveloped by the thick adobe walls and cozy rooms you
will find it hard to believe you are so close to town.
