A stay at Sierpe del Pacifico is Costa Rica at its finest...remote and comfortable accommodations...nature in its purest form all around you...make sure to watch our promotional video...you'll be sold in seconds!
This is your chance to completely escape the monotonous grind of everyday life and rejuvenate your body and mind with a healthy dose of natural beauty, active adventure, and cultural authenticity. All five senses will be on full alert here…each one contributing to an overall sense of joy and relaxation. Start your mornings with the sounds of howler monkeys, the sight of tropical sunrises, and the aroma of Costa Rican coffee that would put Starbucks to shame. Fill you days with a plethora of river, ocean, or rainforest adventure – all available directly from your front steps. Finally, wind down the evening watching the flight of white ibis across the sunset over Isla Violin with a cold cervesa or mojito in hand. Sound like paradise to you...we think so too!
Our 950 sq. ft. cabina is part of the Sierpe del Pacifico eco-adventure community located along the elevated banks of the Sierpe River in Costa Rica’s world famous Osa Peninsula. Dubbed by National Geographic magazine as the world’s most bio-diverse place, the Osa is the last bastion of untouched wilderness, tranquility, and privacy in Costa Rica.
Our cabina’s location on the Sierpe River – a fully navigable river that flows into the Pacific Ocean – serves as a direct connection to all of the best adventure activities that Costa Rica is known for. Accessible directly from the front steps of the cabina are 5 kilometers of hiking trails that weave through primary rainforest, wetlands, mangroves, and 3 tropical fruit filled gardens… all great for wildlife watching and birding. Feel free to help yourself to the fruit as well, the resident monkeys certainly do! Four kayaks are stored on-site and are yours to use for exploring the river and its tributaries. Are you a fan of fishing? If so, you’ll be glad to know that some sizable red snapper and snook have been caught from the two riverfront piers. For adrenaline junkies some pretty intense mountain biking and horseback riding trails connect the SDP property to the Mirimar mountain range to the south. Finally, if you just want to sit back and enjoy the wide open views of three coastal mountain ranges, Isla Violin, and the daily flights of macaws, toucans, and parrots over the river, two additional hill-top scenic overlook verandas are just a couple minutes walk from the cabina.
In addition to the on-site activities, it is highly recommended that you arrange for a variety of tour boats to pick you up at the riverfront dock for some of the ocean related activities that have made this area so popular with tourists. Favorites include deep-sea fishing (world class in-shore and off-shore), snorkeling, diving (Costa Rica’s most renowned), wildlife watching in Corcovado National Park, Cano Island hiking, snorkeling, surfing, beach cruises, and dolphin and whale watching. All of these tours can easily be arranged for you by the owner and are of a very high quality.
The cabina itself is less than a year old and was built in the signature Sierpe del Pacifico “refined rustic” style. Large beamed exotic hardwoods combine with lofted ceilings and ample use of screened in (“no-see-um” proof) windows to emphasize views of, and harmony with, the natural surroundings. A 215 sq. ft. veranda has rocking chairs, a breakfast nook, and lounger available to relax in while enjoying the amazing views. Despite being very isolated and completely “off the grid here”, a well appointed solar system, on demand hot water, and 3G cell phone coverage will keep you comfortable and connected. A queen-sized orthopedic mattress comfortably sleeps two in the main bedroom, a full sleeps two more in the downstairs bedroom, and a pull-out futon and air mattress can accommodate two more. There are spacious 3/4 baths with high volume/pressure showers in both the upstairs and downstairs. The kitchen is fully stocked and features island seating for six, a gas range/oven, and a sizable refrigerator. For entertainment purposes there is a stereo/CD player/ipod adapter, and books and board games. 3G cell phone service at the property is very good.
Upon your arrival by boat (it’s the only way to get here) the boat captain will walk you up the access road to the cabina and help you with your bags. The beds will be made, the fridge will be cold, and extra linens and towels will be available for the duration of your stay. Maid service can be arranged for an extra charge. For your safety and convenience there is an on-site caretaker who lives a few hundred yards away. A cell phone will also be provided to you for emergency contact and booking of tours.
While the enjoyment of our river retreat provides the ultimate in tranquility, beauty, and seclusion, it must be said that this experience is better geared towards those who are adventurous and enjoy physical activities. The walk to the cabina from the boat dock is the equivalent of a few blocks and involves a decent sized hill. While the cabina is brand new and provides a wide range of modern comforts and conveniences, you must remember that you are “off the grid” and in the middle of a tropical rainforest. This cabin does not have air conditioning, but 4 overhead fans and a design utilizing cross-ventilation measures keeps the cabina comfortable. In our version of paradise we sacrifice air conditioning for air of the purest condition!

Contacting Cassidy and making arrangements was made easy. We were filled with detailed information and quickly recognized that we were working with a great team. Guillermo, the property manager, and Donal, a care taker, were there to meet us as we arrived in Sierpe. Both were helpful, and an integral part in the experience we had. Being transported to the house by boat was a great kickoff into our adventure. Donal stopped along the way as Guillermo pointed out a crocodile, a few different types of monkeys and birds, as well as, gave us the lay of the land through a local's eyes. Guillermo and Donal helped bring all our necessities up to the house, showed us around, and then left us to settle into the pura vida lifestyle. We found the cabina to be well equipped and perfectly comfortable. We soaked in the smells and the sounds and couldn't wait to get out there and explore. Explore we did! We quickly got into a morning and early evening routine of walking the property and taking different routes to discover all its beauty. We enjoyed the sunrise and sunsets from the many perches that sit above the canopy and the river below. We made good use of the kayaks that were there, paddling the different waterways and seeing the wildlife that make the estuaries their home. We were thrilled by the abundant presence of the white faced monkey, which made daily visits right outside the cabina. (I could, and did, spend hours being entertained by them.) Being woken by the howler monkeys became a welcomed alarm and usually meant that it was time to get out the Costa Rican coffee press, make the morning brew and go find a perch for what was sure to be a beautiful sunrise. Bugs were there, of course, but with a dose of repellant they were a non-issue. Had we wanted to get out and explore all the different excursions, we knew it was just a matter of calling Guillermo. However, we had spent the previous week being the active traveler and knew that Sierpe del Pacifico was our time to get rejuvenated and relax. We did fish one day and fed off of our catch for the next 2 days. We spent 1 day back in Sierpe and since we had a rental car, went up the coastline to a beautiful beach that Guillermo suggested. I just can't say enough about this place and the hospitality of the team. If you go and invest yourself in the experience and what it has to offer, you will not leave disappointed. Hands down, a memorable vacation!!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We absolutely loved our stay at this jungle paradise. This was a very unique and authentic way to experience the people, culture, and the land. The cabin was great, especially the view and jungle sounds. We were able to go on several excursions and were picked up right at the dock of the property. We also had a blast exploring the property and taking the kayaks out onto the river and up into the tributary. Thank you so much for everything and all your great advice. We hope to return in the future.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I was looking for somewhere to de-stress, relax, and be away from people. I could not have picked a better place. Completely isolated, serene and breathtaking. It was almost like I was on my own private island. I will not bore you with so many details of how lovely this place is. It is evident from pictures, videos and past reviews. I'd asked if the sound system had an AUX input for my phone and they weren't completely sure. So, my tidbit of info to you, is that it DOES! :) Since I'd brought my my own portable speaker system, I was able to use that for the bedroom where I could control it when I was in bed at night. I can't say enough good things also about Gillermo (manager), and Donal (caretaker) who were very kind, and accommodating and pleasant. Absolute gems they were. Thank you for a lovely place you have made available for us!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

I must say having enjoyed 5 days at SDP was a" world class adventure", and I have been fortunate to have been on more than my fair share before! I have some reservations about tellling the world more about this place because I may have to stand in line next time? Oh well, luckily not everyone enjoys being so close to such an intense array of flora and fauna! Hiking up and down 300 steps could pose a problem for some but we (62&63) just took our time and enjoyed the sights and sounds along the way! Good exercise too! As a Forest Biologist I anticipated the ""Biologically intense" experience and got it for sure! From the cabina, on the trails, in the kayak, on the fishing boat!! Wow! The unique design of the cabina(s) allows you to enjoy it all in such comfort, whether sunrise, sunsets, during a good rain, or the heat of the day! Insects, what insects? A few peskie no-see-ums at dusk? No problem! Try WI or AK before to appretiate! The owners and team at SDP have created a very "creature comfortable" unique community while treading litely on the environment and locals in my opinion! I look forward to watching and hopefully enjoying it's sustainable growth! Man, and do I have some fishing stories and great pictures to share! Thanks Again Cassidy, et al.,! Pura Vida! If you're wanting a beautiful place to stay with very few people around and lots of flora and fauna this is the place for you! It's not for the faint of heart (bugs) or those who don't like heat, or if you can't walk uphill for 10-15 minutes to the cabin. We loved staying in the cabin, sitting on the deck watching the sun set was wonderful and Paul had a great time making music with Donal! The following tours are all recommended: any river tour of the area with Guillermo, the night time frog/insect walk, snorkelling at Cano, Corcovado tour. Can't say enough about how informative and helpful Cassidy is when you have lots of questions up front, and Guillermo (property manager) is the nicest, most knowledgable person to deal with when in Sierpe. He and the other staff took great care of us! On boat tours on the river Guillermo showed us many birds and other animals we never would have spotted on our own. The moonlit boat rides to the cabin were fantastically beautiful too. Worth every penny! There were no problems with the cabin, it is comfortable, very clean, well equipped, we cooked everyday, the markets in town have everything you need. We'd love to return some day and highly recommend this property and the area.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

After 16 days of no AC, no TV and other amenities, we were not ready to leave. Yes, the days were hot and muggy, but the monkeys, parrots, Toucans and the magnificent foliage made it well worth the trouble. A few life giving showers (as Cassidy calls them) each day, revived and refreshed us. It truly was paradise with Scarlet Macaws flying over our deck each day. The butterflies were magnificent, but to see the breathtakingly beautiful Blue Morpho flit by us in the wild was wonderful. Coming face to face with a Golden Orb spider was amazing. Being awakened each morning by the Costa Rican alarm clock (Howler Monkeys) started our day perfectly. Where else could a troop of white face monkeys come past our cabina on both sides. One bounced on a branch behind some foliage. Each time his head appeared, he shouted monkey obscenities at us. But the highlight of our stay was kayaking on the tributary off the main river. No words can describe it. No matter how hot the days were, the nights were gloriously comfortable. Plus waking in the middle of the night and breathing the intoxicating fragrance of jungle flowers was beyond compare. The best part was the solitude and serenity of your wonderful property. Its not for everyone, but it was perfect for us. Cassidy is the perfect host and a great fisherman. His love of the Sea and its creatures was infectious. His energy is limitless, as befits the three time reigning World Lumberjack Champion. Guillermo, the property manager, respected our privacy and conscientiously provided all the help we needed, setting up excursions and providing transportation at our convenience. Donal, the caretaker, is the happiest person we have ever met in our lives. We wish we could have seen the jaguar he spied by the river on our fourth day there. We feel that we have made lifelong friends and we WILL be back. Pura Vida, Paul and BobbiRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

My husband and I loved our four night stay at Sierpe del Pacifico. The "cabina" fits the description of rustic luxury very well- you are fully outfitted to cook anything, there is hot water that never ran out, all furniture is stylish and comfortable, and there is great air flow through the building-- you will not be hot at night! The whole property is very well maintained. Our favorite part though was the spacious deck with its view of the rainforest, we saw parrots flying by constantly, and howler monkeys surrounded the house every morning and night (their calls definitely threw us off the first time!) The local people that work for SDP and take care of you during your stay are highly professional and absolute gems, the owner must have a real knack for finding the absolute best. In addition to exploring the immediate vicinity and its trails and mangroves, we really enjoyed the day trip to the Sirena Station in Corcovado (saw all four monkey species, three tapirs, poisonous snakes, tons of birds!), and a combined beach/fishing day trip. We highly recommend this place, but a few things you should consider: -the ONLY way to reach it is by boat. Staff are always available by phone to send an (affordable) boat from Sierpe to pick you up, and there is a secure place to store your car which you can get at any time and explore away from Sierpe on wheels. But it is not as if you can just stroll out your front door for dinner, planning is involved. -other than the local tours of mangroves, really getting out on the river or to the ocean is expensive due to the price of gas. Note people do not swim in the river. For example, a day trip to Cano Island for snorkeling or diving is well over $100 per person, as is any trip to Corcovado (note these tours are not run by SDP- you pay the same as everyone else staying in Drake's Bay or Sierpe). This even when in a large group. The cabina is such a good deal that it didn't bother us much, but be aware of these costs when budgeting. -fishing is also quite expensive, though the prices were pretty consistent with what we saw in other parts of the country. The SDP owner is a big fisherman, so you use the best equipment and his fishing guide is world class. We strongly recommend the large boat as opposed to the small, as the quality of the guide and equipement is significantly higher. -If you have the money and can use the space- the "Owners Lodge" (other house on the property) is exquisite.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.
Owner response: I just want to let people know that the normal high and low season rates on the two most popular tours our guests enjoy - Cano Island and Corcovado National Park - are less than $100 a person. The Christmas/New Years season is the busiest tourist time of the year in Costa Rica and the cost of accommodation, tours, and even restaurant prices will go up significantly across the entire country. Our guest is also correct in stating that a proper sport fishing charter is expensive. The price of gas ($6 a gallon), a good captain, and a well outfitted boat adds up. There are cheap "sport-fishing" tours available in Costa Rica, but don't be shocked when you end up going for a glorified boat ride with sub-par equipment rather than a true fishing excursion...you get what you pay for! Like our guest said, when all costs are added up and examined closely you will be quite happy with the overall value of our vacation home experience!

We were specifically looking for an experience that combined jungle, beach, wildlife, fishing, and good people. We found all this with Cassidy, Guillermo, and the town of Sierpe. We give this property our absolute highest recommendation! We arrived in Palma Sur in a tiny plane, greeted by a taxi driver who took us to the small town of Sierpe. We were then welcomed by Cassidy and Guillermo who showed us the area and took us to the market to buy food for our stay. Cassidy took us by boat to the dock at Sierpe del Pacifico, where he packed up all our gear onto a quad so we wouldn't have to carry it. Immediately, we saw monkeys, frogs, land crabs, and huge crocodiles! The cabina is an absolute pleasure. It comfortably slept 4 adults and provided us with everything we needed. It was a perfect place to view and hear all the animals of the rainforest. We enjoyed playing scrabble and reading the many books on birds, plants, mammals, etc. of Costa Rica. Mornings with coffee and evenings with Imperial beer were especially memorable. We were left with freshly caught tuna and snapper to enjoy on our first evening. Fishing with Cassidy and Dede was great – one day in the ocean and another on the Sierpe river. We ate like kings. One true highlight of our trip was a nighttime boat ride down the river, stopping to check out crocodiles and flocks of birds. The local restaurant prepared the fish we caught that day – we enjoyed ceviche, roasted snapper, and Micheladas. Other highlights included a day trip to Corcovado National Park, kayaking on the Sierpe River, and a hike to a waterfall in the middle of the jungle. Communication was clear and prompt since we first contacted Cassidy. He helped us plan our entire vacation - even made recommendations for other parts of the country and put us in contact with his friends who also own property. He truly went out of his way to make our trip unforgettable. If you are looking for a truly remote, unique, friendly, special experience, you won’t be disappointed with Sierpe del Pacifico.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This is am amazing property - simply the UNSURPASSED VALUE! In short, you rent 55 hectares of rain forest with well developed hiking trails - all for yourself! We were stunned by this fact alone. It's private property for future development, but right now - only 1 house that can be rented. So you are living in paradise - sounds only from birds and monkeys! The house is new, only 2 years old, very clean and great design with french doors that open on a big porch with great unobstructed 180 degrees view on rain forest. Well stocked kitchen: any imaginable spices, oils and vinegars and even some rice, beans, coffee, etc. The house has throughout ventilation. Great bed, high quality linens. You don't even need to carry your luggage - all will be taken care of for you. Management of this property is the best - native guy who really loves his job. Only 10 min by boat from Sierpe where you can go to las Vegas restaurant on the water - great seafood!. The management give you cellphone, you can call and arrange them to pick you up on your dock and bring you to a restaurant and back - free of charge! Or stop any boat that pass your dock and they will gladly pick you up for 5$:). The hiking in "our own" rain forest reserve was amazing - it is so beautiful there - that is why we came to Costa Rica! On the sunset we would sit on the porch and play flute to dozens of toucans on the trees just in front! Monkeys pass near the house on sunrise. As I write this I feel how fortunate I was to stay in this house in this reserve - this is a lifetime adventure!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

I have owned a home in the Northern part of Costa Rica (Guanacaste) for several years and it is beautiful there. But when someone say’s “ Costa Rica” to me the first thing that comes to mind is unbelievable vistas of the rain forest, beautiful deserted beaches where the jungle meets the sea, exotic animals, unbearable heat and humidity and tons of mosquitoes. Let me tell you that all of my expectations were met and then exceed, except the heat and mosquitoes (we were very pleasantly surprised that neither were as bad as the East Coast of the U.S during the summer) The cabin at SDP is a refined, rustic living so if you like night life, shopping, crowds being pampered and do not like the outdoors than this is not your place. However, if you are like us, looking for something adventurous, not the norm, remote but not isolated, enjoying the amenities that nature has to offer, shopping (picking fresh fruit or catching fresh fish for dinner) night life (taking a night hike on one of the well maintained trails or spotlighting animals from a ponga on the river) Crowds (Exotic Wildlife including monkeys, sloths and birds) that is exactly what I wanted to experience AND WE WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED. It was the perfect blend of simple modern conveniences with the natural rainforest at your doorstep. I was greeted at the cabin by white faced monkeys and a sloth that hung around outside the door for 6 days. Our alarm was the sound of the howler monkeys and birds including parrots and toucans every morning. From the balcony you could watch as the sun began to rise turning the skies pink, orange, purple and blue and watching the mist envelope the rainforest floor the cabin was spotless! The kitchen was nicely equipped and the bathroom very spacious. I could tell that the owners at SDP went out of their way to furnish the cabin with first class appointments and furnishings, the sheets smelled wonderful! We did a full day Ocean trip that included, exploring an isolated beach, snorkeling and exploring Cano Island and of course fishing! Let me tell you about the fishing, first my Wife hates fishing but if you ask her now what the highlight of the trip was it was it was catching a 40lb amberjack. We really only fished for 1 ½ hours and we caught (3) Amberjack all between 30-40lbs, (5) Albacore tuna, (4) Snapper and a Pompano. We finished the day off by taking our fresh catch to the Las Vegas restaurant in the town of Sierpe, where they expertly prepared it and we paid forRecommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

Location
Owner info
Year Purchased: 2008
About the owner: Along with my uncle and father, I own this rainforest retreat and spend between one and two months a year here. We own several vacation properties in Costa Rica, but this one is our favorite. The private and pristine nature of the rainforest/river environment and easy access to the Sierpe River and Pacific Ocean keep us entertained and engaged on so many levels. Kayaking the river, mountain biking through the jungle, fishing the ocean and enjoying a coffee, book, and a sunrise from the veranda are amongst my favorite activities to enjoy while here, however every day seems to bring a new, exciting, and ideal mix of adventure and relaxation.
Why the Owner Chose Drake Bay:
The unique location of literally 'Where the Jungle Meets the River that Meets the Sea' provides the ultimate in eco-adventure opportunity. At any point of the day I can choose to partake in any activity involving the rainforest, the Sierpe River, or the Pacific Ocean. Due to the remote nature of the property, authenticity and privacy are guaranteed and my ability to relax is unparalleled. To be surrounded by this much greenery, see monkeys, toucans, and other diverse fauna in their natural environment, and be safely, comfortably, and conveniently removed from civilization is a very liberating and calming feeling.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
While seemingly simple in design, our home in the rainforest is rich in aesthetic, craftsmanship, and detail. It is a sanctuary that is harmonious with its surroundings, at the same time provides a level of comfort and security one would not expect in the jungle. This sets a great tone for starting and ending your days of Costa Rican adventure from this property. This is a great place to relax and engage your mind, body, and connect with nature and loved ones.
