The dining room, once a rustic keeping room, has a stone wall, fireplace, and stenciled hardwood floors. You will feel as if you stepped back in time. The living room is the perfect size for intimate conversations or larger gatherings. Wide hardwood floors predominate throughout this comfortable home. Cook up a great meal or snack in the well-equipped kitchen with a professional Garland gas stove, microwave, two dish washers and other culinary gadgets. There is a full basement with washer/dryer/ironing board.
Upstairs, there are three bedrooms and two baths. The master bath is spectacular with a Jacuzzi, European-style shower, twin sinks, and great views of mature hardwoods and old stone walls. Relax in a queen size four poster bed while looking out over the expansive yard. There is a huge walk-in closet with ample storage. The second bedroom has a shaker-like feel with its queen bed and two closets. The third bedroom is small with two twin beds, great for kids. This home is as beautiful as the pictures illustrate. We were comfortable from the moment we arrived and had everything we needed. The home is well appointed, clean and filled with all of the essentials. The location is perfect as it is near great shopping, essentials, lakes and restaurants. Neighborhood is beautiful and close to fruit picking orchards. I would highly recommend renting this charming home.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers.

This was the perfect country home for an escape from the hustle & bustle of the City. Highlights of the house include: the master bedroom with 4 poster bed and attached bathroom with whirlpool tub overlooking the garden, Chef's kictchen with ample space, and the stoned patio area for the BBQ (that is secluded from the road) The property also includes beatifully landscaped flowers and shrubbery, a rustic barn and a 2nd patio area and sits just a couple minutes drive from downtown New Preston and from Lake Waramaug. The photos of the property are completely accurate of the house and property. You really should see it for yourself to appreciate it! I would absolutely recommend this house to friends, family, etc and hope to return soon!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

We went up to this property last weekend. It took about 90 minutes from the Upper West Side and it was absolutely beautiful. I loved the house and the quiet - the gardens especially were amazing. On Saturday, we woke up and went hiking at Steep Rock. Then biked around Lake Waramaug and had lunch at the Pantry in Washington Depot. Had a fantastic dinner at the White Horse Tavern, which is in walking distance of the house. I definitely can't see that many stars on the UWS. Got in some great antiquing on Sunday. Overall, a wonderful relaxing weekend in the country..Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thanks so much for coming!

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2009
About the owner: I lived in CT for thirty years but returned to Salt Lake City in 2000. During this time I have missed the springtime peepers, the wildflowers that predominate in bog and meadow, the quaint villages, shops, and covered bridges. I decided that I would re-establish a foothold in Litchfield County to be closer to my two daughters and son-in-law, who live on the east coast. We purchased this quintessential New England farmhouse so that we could be together periodically. The house is a wonderfully, intimate house with both old and new--well preserved but modernized and updated.
Why the Owner Chose New Preston:
Litchfield county is the loveliest part of Connecticut with its broad fields, meadows, and rolling ridges. It has fine stone walls, perfectly-sized towns, and very interesting diverse locals which includes artists, romantics, professionals, and backwoods bubbas. This region has great restaurants, cute taverns, museums, art galleries, and the most amazing inviting winding roads. Yet, it is so close to New York or Boston.
The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse:
Nearby, there is access to Lake Waramaug for swimming (CT's largest natural lake), the Appalachian Trail for hiking, the Berkshires and Tanglewood for cultural events and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Housatonic River for its fly-fishing, and extraordinary antiquing in Litchfield County. This house is nestled among mature trees and lovely grounds. There are plenty of restaurants from cheap to very expensive, there are local vineyards, farmers' markets, bakeries, art galleries, and wine stores. Step out the front door and explore a marvelous vacation opportunity.
