We stayed here for our dear friends wedding at Claytor Lake State Park. The property was just as pictured and clean. Lynn (the owner) was very helpful and friendly. Our favorite part of the house were the awesome outside decks and views. If the chance comes again I would love to come back in the summer time to enjoy the lake.Did you find this review helpful? the house was alittle small for our bunch, but everything was nice and comfortable. did not care for the spiral staircase to get downstairs and would have liked a tv in upstairs living area. We had nice weather and enjoyed the view!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

We stayed in this pretty little house when we were in the area for a fall family wedding, and my main regret is that we were not there enough to really enjoy the deck, the lake and the wonderful views. The pictures on the site don't do it justice. I got a couple good shots to send to Lynn. The master bedroom - on the main floor opens on to the deck, and is away from the other rooms which are in the basement, great when the teens want to stay up and you don't. The bed is comfortable and firm enough - unlike some beach rentals we have had. I found the spiral stairs down to the basement scary but the kids didn't mind them. After the first try I went down the outside stairs if I wanted to go down - but really everything I needed was on the main floor anyway. (Up was better) Little kids would need to be monitored near the top of them. We all agreed that sometime in the future we want to go here again during summer months and stay longer. Great house, nice owner.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

A wonderful cozy lake house. Owner very easy to work with! We def. be staying again!! Thanks Lynn!Owner response: Thank you so much for your review. I am overjoyed that your stay was a good one. It is indeed a cozy cabin in the Fall and Winter but come the summer months, all of the decks and dock area come into full use and the property triples in size. Thanks again. Lynn Martin

This property was exactly as discribed. It is nestled back a country road and directly on the lake, the views are spectacular. We rented for the VT graduation weekend and found the owner extremely easy to work with and very helpful. The only problems with the rental was that it had not been opened for the season yet and needed a few repairs. The repairs were not major and did not interupt our stay.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers.

This weekend was a celebration for our mothers who are no longer with us in the flesh but are forever with us in our hearts. Paradise in "Avalon". The peace that exits here restores my soul. We will be returning often to soak in this little bit of Heaven on Earth!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/3

May your sunsets be as glorious and your sunrises as inspiring as theses. The restorative pleasure of time to relax and savor the deck was a welcome break. My thanks for the indulgence.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Your lovely cottage served as the perfect setting for our mini family reunion as we celebrated our daughters graduation from Virginia Tech and commissioning as a 2LT in the U.S. Army. We were joined by her grandmother from Florida, her aunt from Ohio, and our good friends from Pennsylvania. The weather was lovely and the setting was so quiet and peaceful. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

Your cottage provided us with the best vacation we've had in tears! We had a marvelous time with our sons-one of whom will soon be attending Northwestern U in Chicago and the other entering his senior year of high school. We had a wonderful time relaxing as well as many days spend enjoying activities nearby: boating on the lake, antiquing, picnicking, etc. The dinner theater wad good, but Friday night in Floyd. VA was the BEST! We highly recommend that everyone go to the Floyd Country Store for the Friday night jamborees!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2002
About the owner: I am 59 years old and was born in California. I moved to Virginia 35 years ago and have NEVER regretted my decision to leave California. I live with my husband, 5 dogs (all rescued) and 1 cat.
Why the Owner Chose Roanoke:
I purchased this property a few years ago and plan to use it for my retirement one day but until then, I rent it out during the year and have had great success with most of the guests. The house and the surrounding area is very peaceful. I call it 'My Avalon' because there is a magic here that everyone feels. It soothes the soul!
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Great place for family fun or for a restful retreat. The best features of the property are the multiple decks (covered and open) and lakeside patio that provide lots of extra room and privacy. There are 2 levels with bedrooms on each that provide privacy for multiple groups and families. Lots of local attractions and places to visit and things to do. The 21-mile long lake offers a wide variety of activities for water and land enthusiasts. Excellent fishing. Motorboats, pontoons, jet skis permitted on the lake.
