When we arrived we were not sure that there would be enough room in the cabin. But once we got inside we could not believe how great the layout was. The cabin was clean and had all the amenities you could possible want. The owner was great in telling us about the Town Arroyo Seco just down the road from the cabin. They also gave us excellent restaurant reviews and picking out a restaurant was easy to do. But I think the greatest surprise was the deck in the front of the cabin. We were able to sit in the hot tub and take in views of the valley below and the mountains above. We also got to see one of the most colorful sunsets we have ever seen. Also there is a humming bird feeder on the deck and there were eight humming birds using the feeder. I have never seen the radiance of the feathers when light bounced off their feathers. We had such a good time. But we enjoyed shopping for art work and we were not disappointed. Can not wait to go back again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This beautiful home is everything we had hoped for when renting a home for a vacation "away". Every nook and corner was carefully planned and there was nothing that wasn't provided for us that we needed - there were plenty of towels, utensils, cookware, firewood, bedding, etc. and the caretaker and owners were very kind and easy to work with. :-) The propery overlooks a canyon (it is very private so you feel like there aren't any neighbors at all), and you can look out further to the gorge and enjoy the view. The steam shower was fantastic and the bed was immensely comfortable! We enjoyed just listening to the radio and enjoying the view over a cup of tea. There are plenty of books to read in case you didn't bring your own, and we enjoyed sitting outside with a glass of wine, just enjoying the day. We will definitely be back the next time we need a place that provides peace, serenity, and a sense of "home away from home". THANK YOU for sharing this fantastic home. If we had our choice, we'd build one just like it for our retirement years!!!!Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway.

The place offered the quiet, privet and serene atmosphere we were looking for. Cool nights and warm fires. Wine and dine at some wonderful restaurants. This is the place to do it all from. We met both the owners and the caretakers. Everyone was helpful and a pleasure as hosts. Reality is even better than the pictures. We WILL stay her again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

very restful and peaceful stay. clean and warm, just what we were hoping for after the busy holidays. Yes, I would recommend this property to friends. Make sure you eat breakfast at Michael's. Only negative, which we were warned about, was getting used to creaking, or adjustments to the roof brought on by the cold weather. But even with that said, it was very comfortable inside.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Our roof, which is extra-insulative in the cold winters and hot summers, expands and contracts because of the special materials. Because of this superb insulation, the house stays very warm in the winter and quite cool in the strong sun of summer. When these guests stayed, it was 17 below zero at night. And, they were warm! Yeah for great construction!

Well built home, very well thought out. The brick floor, steam shower, location, hot tub, and open design were among our favorite. We rented this place to stay in during our snowboard season. The home has a long radius front wall and roof that are common to custom southwest homes. Everything we needed was there and in good order. We really enjoyed our stay.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you. It is our favorite, too!

We enjoyed a wonderful week in Taos. The casita was everything advertised and more - quiet, private, clean, and well equipped with much attention to detail and and thoughtfulness for the traveler. The welcome basket including a tasty red wine was much appreciated. Everything needed to prepare meals made it easy for us to stay in and enjoy your lovely home. Views from the patio across the Rio Grande valley were spectacular. We observed hot air balloons launching almost every morning and enjoyed the hot tub and outdoor fireplace in the evenings. Arroyo de Seco (close by) offered both a great lunch and dinner option, as well as a wonderful ice cream shop and the drive to Taos was only 10-15 minutes. We greatly appreciated your recommendations for dining and things to see/do. KC and Kevin (property managers) were also very helpful and the regular visits to maintain the hot tub were very much appreciated. We have rented through VRBO over 60 times in the last fifteen years and have generally had good experiences. Your property ranks up there with the best and most enjoyable we have found and when we next come back to Taos, we hope to find it available again. Many thanks.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: So happy you enjoyed our home and that we rank up there with "the best!" Come back, anytime!

The only consolation about leaving Casita Ave Maria was that it was good to be home again. It was such a magical week. To repeat so many others, the pictures do not do the property justice. It is a completely unique custom home, built with much love and care. The caretaker, K.C., is wonderful, and the Clancys are so generous to share their home with visitors to the area. If you are looking for walking distance to Taos, this is not the place for you. BUT, if you want a lovely jump-off place to visit Taos Ski Valley, Angel Fire, the Rio Grande Gorge, Ojo Caliente hot springs or any place around the "Enchanted Circle," this is the PERFECT place! Beware, if you are new to the area and want to sightsee, this home is NOT conducive to leaving. You really have to tear yourselves away to go out to eat or tour around. We ate quite a few meals using the gourmet kitchen and outdoor gas grill - we did not want for anything. The linens, including the wonderfully fluffy robes, were of very high quality. The steam shower is wonderful for being in the desert in the warmer weather. Thanks for everything!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and I had never been to Taos and were looking for a comfortable, newer rental to stay in. Casita Ave Maria exceeded our expectations in every way. The deck with the hot tub was the highlight of the casita. We did not feel that there was any amenity missing from it....modern appliances, beautiful finishes throughout, comfortable bed, etc. It is located about 15 minutes north of Taos and that was one of the things that attracted us to it. Being north of Taos puts you closer to Taos Ski Valley and all the activities you can find up there. It is in a rural location but the setting is very quiet and scenic. We would recommend this to anyone looking for a secluded Taos get-away.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I just spent 3 nights at the Casita Ave Maria...The photos do not do it justice. This is a perfect rental for a couple.. It's extremely private, perfectly equipped kitchen,,, hot tub is amazing! It's about a 12-15 minute drive to the town of Taos...and just a few miles from beautiful nature drives...and wonderful restaurants... but the best thing that we did was watch sunset every night with a bottle of wine in the hot tub......The owners have thought of every convenience that you could imagine. I would not hesitate to rent this property again,, and look forward to it!!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We loved staying at the Casita Ave Maria. The place met our expectations and surpassed them. Like the title says, the pictures do the place no justice. We loved everything about it. We felt safe and cozy all around. The hot tub was great after a long snowboarding day and the bed was really comfortable when time to hit the sac. We would recommend this to anyone travelling to Taos. The location is perfect. Not too far out of the way but also the perfect shorter drive to run up the Mountain.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My (new) husband and I took a mini-honeymoon to Taos the Friday following our Thursday wedding and stayed at the Casita. The place is awesome. We spent the entire weekend burning an endless stash of firewood, drinking vino, enjoying words with friends by the outside fire, soaking in the tub, steaming in the shower, and celebrating our marriage. We skied Taos (hiked Cuchina Peak), ate some baller New Mexican food, and woke up every morning to the most beautiful light in our little Casita. We can't wait to head back one of these days! Also, everybody involved was super helpful in every way with directions/suggestions/etc. Try the New Mexican microbrews, delicious. Small heads up: because the Casita is a little ways out, make sure you plan accordingly for dinner in town if you'll be cocktailing. We had a great time hanging at the Casita and didn't really feel the need to bar hop in Taos, so not a problem for us. Also, Taos Pueblo is pretty cool, so check that out if you haven't. Thanks Casita!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

I was looking for three things last fall when I was planning a trip to unwind for a few days: quiet, a fireplace, a hot tub. Not only did this casita provide all three, but I found so much more. The place is clean and well stocked, it's private but not too secluded, the owners are accomodating and the near-by caretakers are pleasant and easy to work with. I'm planning a trip for my birthday in April and I'm strongly considering coming back to the casita, this time with my girlfriend so that she can experience the place that I've been talking about since November (sorry it took me so long to write the review). Thank you for offering your casita to us. It's a gift.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Casita Ava Maria made us feel like were staying in a 5-star hotel, but with the added privacy of country peacefulness! All the creature comforts of home in a gorgeous setting. Would highly recommend to anyone. Appreciated the welcome information and area recommendations, especially since we were first-time NM visitors. We found ourselves looking forward to return "home" to the casita after a day of touring or hiking. We loved it! From the views to the shower to the views to the kitchen to the views to the big, comfy bed to the . . . oh! Did I mention the views? Really a delightful place to rest and dream and look at some of God's best handywork. The big sky by day and the stars, big and bright, by night, kept us entertained and lowered our blood pressure at least fifteen points! Very clean, the photos don't show its beauty. Good access to the highway via a five minute drive, you'd never know you were that close. Then another fifteen minutes to downtown Taos. It's not remote but it feels as if it is! We are big Taos lovers and have always enjoyed the local fare. We discovered a little place this time named "Ricky's" on the main road, south of town by the bait shop. (Hand lettered, aqua sign with red letters.) Wow! Get the "Mountain of Love" or the banana pecan pancakes. Whoa . . . good stuff. Visit the Overland Sheep Company and the furniture store that's right there. Always be on the lookout for cute old pickup trucks. They lurk around Taos and Sante Fe. It's where old pickups hang out before they die, you know. KC and Kevin, the caretakers of CAM were delightful and helpful whenever we needed them. My husband's foot was in a cast (no more skydiving!) so we couldn't enjoy the hot tub . . . instructions- "clothing optional" . . . oh, come on . . . it's a place designed for lovers! But even though we weren't using it, Kevin came by one morning to check the water in the hot tub, which impressed me. Oh, goodness! He called first. Beautifully decorated and everything a couple could need for a restful get away. Take clothes that you can fold and put in drawers, though. No closets or hanging space is provided. Stay home a few evenings and cook on the grill. The sunsets are breathtaking! We'll be back and I hope it's soon!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

More beautiful than the pictures; a true touch of magic was experienced here by this writer. Tammi and her husband are perfect owners and their caretaker husband and wife team are so diligent, efficient and sweet. Perfectly maintained hot tub. Steam shower was a bonus in the high desert. The owners provide lots of information on things to do in the area, the property is everything as listed and photographed, but better. Even a welcome basket, such a sweet touch. We would love to come back and borrow Casita Ave Maria again from her owners. You cannot go wrong if you are lucky enough to find an opening in the schedule of this lovely home with these wonderful people who own and maintain it. Happy travels.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We just spent a most glorious week at Casita Ave Maria and I seriously can’t say enough wonderful things about this place. The pictures on the website make it look wonderful…but it’s BETTER!!! We walked in and were stunned by how beautiful the casita was. Amazing walk around deck with seating all around so you can dine and/or chill out in the sun or shade all day, incredible hot tub with an amazing view of the valley, wonderfully comfortable king sized bed, well equipped full sized kitchen that you can actually cook in (unlike other places I’ve stayed), and the steam shower…We’re from Washington and weren’t fully prepared for the 2% humidity and our skin was seriously upset with us. The steam shower was a godsend. Every day we sat in there and let our skin replenish its moisture before taking a rejuvenating cool shower. Bliss! If I ever build a new house I will be putting one of these in for sure!!! Tammi was an absolute joy to work with and we’re so grateful that the Clancy’s are sharing their little piece of heaven the rest of us. We WILL be back for SURE!!!! If you and your significant other are staying in Taos and this property is available, you would have to be an absolute fool not to rent this place! I hope they don’t mind me saying this…but I saw the “main” house across the road and I have to say I think we were lucky we got the casita. Not that there’s anything wrong with the “main” house, but this place is cozier for two people, has better views (including from the hot tub), and more glorious sunshine coming in the house. Taos was fabulous as well, but the time that we weren’t hiking and enjoying the outside beauty, we were at the casita enjoying the blissful peace and quiet. Thank You!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The fireplaces are amazing. We have been through all types of weather here, snow, hail, wind, rain, and now gorgeous sun. We rented both Casita Ava Maria and Casa de Cuentos properties for our Thanksgiving Holiday and had a wonderful time. The facilities were accurately described in the profile and were well equipped to handle four adults and four children in the Casa and three adults in the Casita for a family group of eleven. Each kitchen was well equipped which made serving our turkey feast easy and enjoyable. The hot tubs located at each facility provided great views of the mountains and valley and the pool table was a great hit with everyone. Arroyo Seco provided a variety of pre-holiday shopping and delicious ice cream and gyro sandwiches at the Taos Cow topped off a fun afternoon. It was a busy time in Taos due to the craft fairs and we throughly enjoyed finding unique handmade items that represented the southwestern culture. Dinner at Antonio's Resturant in Taos was also terrific. KC was great and answered all of our questions and we were pleased with the interactions we had with the owners. These facilities met our holiday needs and we would be happy to return to this location in the Taos area and to recommend the accomodations to our family and friends. Thanks for sharing your Casa and Casita with us!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway.

The owners and caretaker were so helpful with recommendations, but we barely left the the casita because it was so enjoyable! We especially enjoyed the deck, sunset views, hot tub, book and music selection, kiva fireplaces and gourmet kitchen (and we don't even usually like to cook!). We spent 7 glorious days hiking in and around the Taos area. The caretaker was wonderful with her advice about where to hike. She also did excellent research for a restaurant for the big 25th anniversary day, but in the end we bought some pasta sauce and stayed in the casita. No restaurant could offer the sunset view, while enjoying a glass of wine in the hot tub. Too perfect. After dinner we had a roaring fire in the fireplace. The kitchen is well-equipped. The steam shower a great break from dry mountain air. The casita is located between town and the ski area. We liked Arroyo Seco, a small town nearby, better than we liked Taos. However, if you are looking for ski-in, ski-out convenience, this isn't the place for you. Likewise if you want walking access to the shops and restaurants of Taos. We wanted a lot of different hiking experiences, so we were prepared to drive everyday. One day, we stayed in and I had a wonderful walk on the county road leading to the Casita. Only saw about 20 cars in an hour long walk. BTW, our tiny Kia Rio, the cheapest car on the rental lot, did just fine to and from Albuquerque.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway.

My husband and I spent a glorious week at Casita Ave Maria in September. The casita is beautifully and artfully decorated and fully equipped. The location is peaceful and quiet, has a lovely view, and is close to town when you want to go out to eat, listen to music, visit galleries, the pueblo, museums, hike, etc. There's plenty to do if you choose to. We needed to recharge and so stayed in a lot, and the casita enabled us to do that in peace and comfort. The owners and caretaker were clear in their communications and 100% available to us for anything we needed. We highly recommend Casita Ave Maria for your next vacation.Recommended for: Romantic getaway

This is a long overdue review. We stayed at Casita Ave Maria for a few days during our vacation to NM in Aug. 2010. It was our first experience with a VRBO property, and we were immediately spoiled by the beauty of the accomodations and the property, and our dealings with the owners and the caretakers. Romantic, luxurious, and spotless. We could not believe the views, with the hot air balloons rising in the morning while we had our coffee on the patio. So many amenities and special touches, such as the wonderful bathroom, and seeing the Ave Maria name on the firescreen while we were relaxing in front of the fire. A bottle of wine welcomed us when we arrived. This property is the one we will judge all our VRBO rentals by in the future. We would go back there in a heartbeat! NM is "The Land of Enchantment" and this is "The Home of Enchantment"!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I spent six perfect August days at Casita Ave Maria. The casita is a lovely stone and brick home, with a wonderful open layout that maximizes space and views. It’s ideal for a solo traveler, a couple, or perhaps three close friends. For me on a much-needed solo vacation, I chose it from many other listings on VRBO as a place with peace and solitude, big views, quiet walks, and star gazing. It exceeded all my expectations. That’s the “outside” of Casita Ave Maria. The “inside” feeling and energy of this special place is embracing, healing, and soothing. The expansive deck looking over the Arroyo Hondo valley is perfect for writing and reading, and the hot tub is cleverly situated to afford both great privacy and phenomenal views. And the steam shower, ahhhh. For day trips away from the casita, it’s about 10 miles from Taos and just a few miles to the fun artsy town of Arroyo Seco and then up to the Taos ski area. Caretaker KC is marvelous as is housekeeper Willow, and the owners are very accommodating. They have thought of every detail, and their love for this place shows in the workmanship and attention to the small things that make this casita a joyful, blessed place in which to spend time. Casita Ave Maria is pretty much heaven just north of Taos. If you’re looking for a peaceful place that speaks to your soul, this is it. At least, it was for me. I look forward to the next time I can spend some lovely time in this special place.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I really LOVED this home. It's pretty far away from town, but a perfect location if you're looking to be between the ski valley and the town. We loved the patio, hot tub, and wonderful view. We would love to stay here again.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

This casita was everything anyone could ask for. It's was beautifully decorated, extremely cozy, and the workmanship of this casita was amazing! We loved using the huge hot tub at night right before settling into a big comfy bed. The stars from the hot tub were truly magical. But the sunsets.......we'd have to be home in the evenings to make sure we didn't miss one minute of it! Look for the hot air balloons every morning popping up toward the gorge. Look also for the rainbows, there were several of them the morning we left as the sun was coming up. It truly was a very special place. My husband and I loved every minute of it, and we plan on returning as soon as we can! Thanks so much to KC the caretaker, and the Clancy's for making our stay so incredible! PS: Look for Princeton, he's a special "little" guy too!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Well, we pretty much loved it. It is so nice being outside of town where it is quiet and relaxing. The hot tub and fireplace were great. It is a short drive for hiking, hot springs, the town square, and other adventure activites. We always have the best time in in New Mexico and we'll being going back soon...and of course staying in the Casita!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

This place is really wonderful! This casita is north of town by 15 minutes or so but close to other perks like the Rio Grande and Arroyo Seco. The place really has the best of both worlds being close to town but completely away from it all. The casita is in such a quiet location - you can hear the birds fly overhead, have unobstructed views of the spectacular sunsets from the hot tub and feel like you are on your own private mesa top. This property had everything we needed and was the best stocked kitchen we have ever had on a vrbo listing. There was nothing that was missing. They even gave us goodies at our arrival Wonderful towels too.. The pictures on the site don't do it justice. The open floor plan is great for a couple and the place was clean, well kept and the owners were very helpful with our booking. We did bring dogs but don't expect a 'yard' for them. It's really on a canyon with lots of cactus (that they always seemed to step on) so it's probably not the best place for throwing a ball if that is what you want- but the walks were great and the proximity to the rio grande rec area tired worked well. We have stayed in about 10 properties in Taos. This has by far been the best and we will stay here again! We miss it already..Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway.

We stayed for appoximately 4 days in this immaculate (excuse the pun) studio/house. It is essentially one very large room with kitchen, living room and bed room in a large open area. Fantastic views, great hot tub, modern appliances, and very clean. It is perfect for a couple. It is about 15 minutes from Taos and15minutes from an outdoor hot springs, The kitchen is large an open and overall this is a great place to hang out and visit the area.Recommended for: Romantic getaway
