Ocean and Island and Mountain view
Artist Cottage under trees nestled in the foothills of Santa Barbra, amongst giant oaks and a Australian Morton Bay fig tree. Close to town and yet you feel like you are out in the country. Lots of natural light from the large artist windows.
Relax on one of three porches and look out at the ocean views or lie on the sofa in the lounge and look up the trees and watch the red tail hawks circling above. House remains cool on those hot summer days with great ventilation. And for those cooler nights relax on the large cushions in front of the natural wood-burning fire.
For the kids there is a rope swing hanging off Big Morton Bay fig tree. And a great yard to explore.
Santa Barbara is a 2 hour drive north from Los Angeles or a short hop from any corner of the world via the Santa Barbara airport. Santa Barbara's harbor is home to the world famous Stearns Wharf; a great destination for the entire family. The zoological gardens are known as a great family day-trip.
From the City, you are just minutes away from the Santa Barbara wine country. The gorgeous Santa Ynez Valley, with its breath-taking vistas, is home to such notable attractions as Solvang and the Chumash Reservation.
Whether you enjoy hiking, fine-dining, water sports, lazing on the beach, culture, or a great night-life, Santa Barbara has something for you.

This cottage exceeded my expectations. Spacious and airy, yet quaint and cozy, our family of three used this sweet cottage as our home base during our five-day stay in Santa Barbara. We lacked nothing in the way of amenities -- the kitchen came equipped with everything from a coffee grinder to a crock pot and the bedding and linens were luxurious. We especially enjoyed the piano, the wood-burning stove (which was warmed us up in the cooler evenings), the high ceilings, the light, and the sense of privacy from being nestled amidst tall oak trees and strategically-placed plants that hide the neighbors. The cottage's owner was always available to answer questions, but left us alone unless we needed her. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and plan to return next year.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

This was a surprisingly perfect cottage. Since there are no reviews, I'll give a lot of detail. It was built in the 1930’s as an artist’s studio, so has lots of large old-fashioned paned windows that give a great cross-breeze. It has been lovingly updated where it counts, open-beamed ceilings, modern kitchen and bath, add-on master bedroom with French doors, but still retains the sense of a fairy cottage. The place was clean and ready when I came. Appliances worked well, includes washer/dryer (out on a covered porch with the fridge), dishwasher, gas stove, good water pressure, comfortable beds, funky furniture (some not so comfortable), a great desk for writing and a great spot on the couch for reading, Internet, TV/DVD (turned it on once – works fine), deck for lounging, and the piano was in tune. It is at the base of the foothills, away from the morning fog, and far enough away from the busy-ness of town to be relaxing - but 5 minutes from some great grocery stores (Gelson’s, Whole Foods, Trader Joes), 10 minutes from downtown State St, and about 15 minutes to the beach. Very conducive to sleeping in and waking to cool mornings, heading to the beach in the afternoon, rosy sunsets, and cricket-filled nights. From the top of the garden you can see the Channel Islands. Read, wrote, lots of quiet time, played a little piano, hung out with my dog. Check out the SB Botanic Gardens (very close), the orchid farms in Goleta, Cabrillo St (beachwalk), painted Chumash cave (not so much for the cave – the views on the drive are spectacular), and the Sunday Art Fair at the pier. The neighborhood is hilly with no shoulders, but there are numerous hiking trails nearby. Miramar Beach and Goleta County Beach are dog friendly. Unfortunately, most of the ‘dog friendly’ SB restaurants really aren’t (you need to tie your dog on a fence outside the eating area). May not be the best place for small children or hyperactive pets because the older windows have no screens (not uncommon in SB), but my dog was very comfortable there. It is on a hillside, so if you don’t like to walk uphill to get to the front door, it may not work so well. And, if you’re looking for 1000 thread count sheets, granite counters, hot tub, etc, and don’t find old eclectic things charming, it probably isn’t the place for you. However, if you want an enchanted home away from home, a place to really slow down, put your feet up, and relax, I highly recommend it.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+.
