If you’re interested in exploring the “green” side of the Green Mountain State, this solar-powered geodesic dome is a completely different Vermont experience. Of course, you’ll still have privacy and the quiet serenity of nature surrounding you. Four downhill ski areas will still be within a forty-minute drive, and the Craftsbury Nordic Center will be ten minutes away with its miles of cross-country skiing.

In the summer, you’ll be a short distance from lakes, rivers, the Canadian border, seven golf courses, the Long Trail for hiking, road biking, mountain biking, fishing, boating, and any outdoor sport you can imagine. Stowe, St. Johnsbury, and Newport, Vermont are all just a short drive away.

Inside the house, you’ll experience living “off the grid” in a space filled with tropical plants and banks of south-facing windows that overlook a magnificent view. You’ll discover that living green still means having access to phone, high speed Internet, Directv, and a 46-inch flat screen television.

The dome is highly insulated and heated beautifully with radiant floors, but also has a parlor stove in the living room for ambiance during long winter nights. There’s a baby grand piano in the living room.

A wraparound deck outside overlooks a beautifully landscaped perennial garden, a pond, a second sundeck, and hundreds of acres of forest and trails. The property is bordered on two sides by year-round brooks and waterfalls.

This is an amazing house, both the structure itself and the landscape that surrounds it. We stayed in the Solar Dome for 3 nights - myself, husband, toddler, and dog. Reasons to rent this place: - The owner, Bill, is wonderful. He is easy to get a hold of and went out of his way to make us feel comfortable without being intrusive. He sent us a packet of information about the area ahead of time and when we arrived, there was a bottle of wine awaiting us. Place was in pristine condition and the pictures don't do it justice. - This home is in the middle of nowhere, which was perfect for us. BUT, It only took about 10 minutes to get to a general store down the road. It was a nice, central location to see may of the sites in the NE kingdom - Newport, Cabot, etc. - Along those lines, easy to get to - as in our Civic made it up the gravel road, even on the rainy days. - House is well equipped with the essentials - towels, linens, etc. The kitchen was great - it had spices, sugar, flour, coffee filters, etc. Unsure if those would always be there, but for us, we really needed very few things to buy at the general store aside from the groceries with which we made our meals. Huge 6 burner grill as well and a beautiful view to have a morning cup of coffee to. Never felt cold in the place with the way that it is heated. - Piano, ipod hookups, flat screen tv, Wifii, wood burning stove. Enough to keep you occupied when indoors! - Great way to learn about green living! We loved our stay there. Would highly recommend.

Hoping that the house was as nice as it appeared in the photos... we were taken by surprise as we rounded the last corner. It is beautiful - and Huge -- surrounded by flowers with a backdrop of aroboreal bliss looking down on and across a bucolic scene which could have been pulled straight from a movie set. The first night we sat at the table on the deck with glasses of wine and watched in wonder as the sun set and wispy clouds filtered in across the valleys below us and the distant lights slowly came on in the towns to the south and east. Quickly, the clouds became a storm and lightening flashed through the clouds in front and below us. It was amazing to watch it play out from above. We picked fresh raspberries to have with breakfast, watched the birds fly from tree top to tree top at eye level, and listened to the bronze frogs call to each other near the pond. We traveled to a few of the the nearby towns and had a good time exploring and shopping. Warning - if you stop to buy ice cream at the little place near the hardware store in Newton - get a SMALL - the Large cone was probably 10" high. Some of the locals were actually laughing as we walked away trying to figure out how to balance, eat them, and walk at the same time. Thinking we'd walk across to the beautiful lake that is shared between VT and Canada, within about 10 steps (way before we got to the park benches by the lake), my partner - looked like a 4 year old ith ice cream everywhere down her shirt even in her shoes. Wish I had a picture of that. The last night - Saturday after 4th of July - the two towns below us had simultaneous fireworks shows. We were delighted to watch both sets of fireworks from our own private viewing platform. We originally rented the house because we'd like to build something similar on our property. Bill spent a good deal of time going over how the alternative power systems work together and what we could expect, etc. Having stayed there for 5 days, I know what's involved really and that it's doable. Now, I'm really excited to get started on our project. I have no doubt that I would be comfortable living full time in a dome house. Next time we visit, we will bring friends. This house is made to be filled with laughter.

I wanted to get away for the weekend for my 40th birthday and I was so happy to find the dome for so many reasons most of all it was dog friendly after all who wants to go away without their dogs!! also being green was a bonus too. I loved the claw foot tub, the master bed was super comfy and the views from the master bedroom were amazing, the mud room is perfect for the dogs and the outdoor areas were just amazing, I am so glad we visited the dome it is an amazing place, hopefully returning next year.

The dome was the perfect place to stay for our mid-winter getaway. It was comfortable, clean, relaxing and had everything we needed. The kitchen was well-equipped for cooking full meals, the satellite TV and WiFi Internet kept us connected, and the views out the living room windows were incredible! It truly is an amazing and peaceful property, tucked away up in the mountains. The boiler and radiant heat floors kept us toasty, and it was interesting to learn about the dome's construction and energy efficiency. Bill was a great host, from getting our car un-stuck from the two feet of snow that fell the day we arrived, to giving recommendations on local amenities from grocery stores to restaurants (pizza from Parker Pie is a must!) to beautiful cross-country ski trails. We skied two days on nearby trails (once at Craftsbury Outdoor Centre, once at Highland Lodge) and experienced some of the deepest powder and best cross-country skiing we've come across. We're already thinking of an occasion to go back!

The solar dome is really a unique experience. It was eye-opening for us and we learned a great deal about how we can conserve energy and still live very comfortably. This is an awesome property, and we loved our week-long stay. The house was neat and clean, well maintained and very well decorated. It's something you will remember for a long time... The view is amazing. Ouside there were wildflowers growing in a riot of color, butterflies, and raspberries to pick right outside the dome. Bill was a gracious host, and took great care of us. He was very responsive in his communication. We will definitely return. Our kids called living in the dome "living in a spaceship". It's really a fun, relaxing place. Very quiet and peaceful. We love it!! Thanks, Bill!

My wife & I vacationed at this unique and beautiful property for one week and had a fantastic time! It was open & airy, peaceful, cheery & well appointed. The piano was a treat to play....the acoustics were great! Nice views from the deck and vast number of windows. Plenty of areas nearby for superb quiet water kayking and hiking. Shopping, dining & theater options were available as well in nearby towns. The owner, Bill was a most gracious and interesting character; he was always a phone call away if we had a question about the property or area. Looks like a great place to stay in any season....highly recommended!

This dome was a truly memorable place to spend our honeymoon! It was warm and cozy, full of light, clean and comfortable. I really enjoyed the platform outside of the dome where I could practice my tai chi and look out on a beautiful view of the kingdom. We highly recommend this rental for anyone who enjoys solitude and comfort.

My husband, son and I had such a wonderful stay in this fabulous solar home. The area is truly lovely and our son loved the old-fashioned White River Flyer railroad ride, as well as time exploring St. Johnsbury and Lyndenville. In the morning, we had waffles for breakfast with the delicious gift of Vermont Maple Syrup. I could never go back to what passes for syrup in most stores! In the evenings, we enjoyed movies and playing board games as the sky deepened through shades of blue in all the windows around us. I spent so many moments just standing at the top of the steps inside the dome and looking out over the hills and mountains. It is gorgeous and really swept me away. I loved the evening frog serenade and the amazing lightshow from the fireflies. Thanks to Bill for being such a helpful and gracious host. I am definitely telling my skiing and nature loving friends back home about the dome!
