The apartment was exactly as advertised. Booking was straightforward and Dene provided a comprehensive introduction to the neighborhood when I arrived. Really appreciated how comfortable the apartment was after full days of sightseeing. Three restaurants to recommend: Bazar in the Albert Cuyp Market one street over from this apartment and not too expensive; Loetje Cafe for great steak not too far from the Rijksmuseum; and Seasons Restaurant in the Jordaan area.

My husband and I stayed in this wonderful apartment for a week in early April. It was perfectly clean, very comfortable and in a great neighbourhood. After exploring Amsterdam and its sights it was great to come back to the De Pijp neighbourhood and the apartment. It is very well equipped and everything you might need is steps away.Dene provides lots of visitor information and is great to work with.We enjoyed many of the cafes and restaurants in the area.We highly recommend the apartment...it's a great place to stay!

We loved this place; the apartment was perfect just as the photos if not better. It is spotlessly clean, really comfortable and has everything you could possibly want – even had travel adapter which was good as I had forgotten mine The Location is brilliant, only 30mins from the Airport on the 197 bus (€4 bargain!) to Museumplein and then a 10min walk or a couple of stops on tram to the apartment. The Pijp is an amazing area with great cafes, restaurants, bars and shops and of course the Albert Cuypmarkt just steps away from the apartment. It’s a great place to stay if you want to experience the real Amsterdam and live like a local but then close enough to all the touristy attractions too. The owner Dene was really helpful and available for anything we needed, gave us lots of good advice on where to eat, etc. he even gave us a guided walking tour of the area which was a real treat. We’ve stayed in Amsterdam several times before but this truly is the best location and definitely the best apartment we’ve ever stayed in. We will be Back!! Thanks Dene

My boyfriend and I stayed here for four nights during our first trip to Amsterdam. We were extremely happy with the apartment, Dene the owner and the location. The Pijp has amazing restaurants, one of the best coffee-shops :) and just an overall great vibe. After spending a long day walking everywhere in Amsterdam, coming back to the apartment was relaxing and out of the way of the crazy tourist areas. Dene was awesome to work with, making checking in and out easy. The stairs to the apartment are steep, but it just added to the fun of staying in an canal house. Although you do hear noise from the setting up of the market, we managed to sleep in and barely noticed it each morning. I highly recommend this apartment!

This apartment was the perfect place for a little romantic getaway to Amsterdam with my fiance. It's cozy, clean, and super cute! I loved the modern decor and the little kitchenette was really neat. I also can't say enough about the neighborhood! It's a really fantastic location, and we felt just like locals for a week! The noise from the market is pretty minimal, but what we noticed is a sort of rumbling in the morning and evening as they are setting up. The apartment is located over a garage where they store the carts that bring the stands to and from the market one block over. This was a weird sensation at first, but we barely noticed it after a day or two. It's not for handicapped people, as the stairs are typically Dutch (very narrow and steep) but that's Amsterdam at its finest! Dene (the owner) was diligent in warning us about the noise, and his wife also reminded us when we got there, so there were no surprises, which we really appreciated. I should also mention that the owners were really fantastic, flexible and accommodating. I'd stay there again any day!

We stayed for a week in this apartment, in February 2013. It was exactly as described, everything worked, the apartment was spotless and well maintained, and the owner was friendly and helpful, so it was all good. The neighborhood of the Pijp is, indeed, full of life and very enjoyable: plenty of choices for restaurants, cafes, bistros, and shops, and easy transportation. The street market is fun to visit. It would no doubt be even more fun in the warm weather, when one could sit outside to eat and drink, but even in the middle of the winter it was a wonderful neighborhood. The owner is, rightfully, very upfront about the early morning noise due to the set-up of the market. However, we didn't find it disturbing at all. It doesn't last all that long, and we quickly got used to it. Unless you are super-sensitive to early morning noise, don't let it deter you from a really great apartment.

Dene was a wonderful host. When our travel plans changed at the last minute, Dene was able to accommodate a change in our arrival date without any problem. He was very helpful in suggesting places to eat. There is noise early in the morning as the market is being set up, but it didn't bother us. We really enjoyed the Pijp, and could easily walk everywhere - transit is very accessible. We would be happy to stay in this apartment again. Thanks Dene!

In October, 2012 my husband and I stayed a week at this apartment in the Pijp. Perfect in every way! Comfortable furnishings and ample room - even the bathroom, while compact, isn't tiny. The separate bedroom allows for alone time and personal space. The apartment is one flight up and overlooks the greenery in the back, so very safe and quiet. Stairs are steep and narrow, but this is standard for Amsterdam. The early morning noise is negligible - the equivalent of someone opening the garage door, driving the car out and shutting the garage door. The location is wonderful. The Albert Cuyp Market is one street over with everything you might want for fresh food as well as anything else from souvenirs to clothes to home furnishings. AH supermarket three small blocks away. Laundromats are close. Easy access by tram to Centraal Station, downtown Amsterdam and all the sights; walking distance if you like to walk. Best access from Schiphol Airport is the #197 Connexion bus which stops at Museumplein (perhaps a 15-20 minute walk from the apartment). Payment arrangements through PayPal worked perfectly. Dene is reliable, a great host, and we will definitely stay here again when we return to Amsterdam. Joan Davis, Aptos, California

Just got back from a 3 week trip which ended here in Amsterdam. Hard to add more than what's been recently reported by other guests, but we totally enjoyed our stay here. Looks exactly as pictured, roomy compared to other places we stayed during our trip. Nice to come "home" to after touring the city. Dene welcomed us upon arrival, and as stated by others, took the time to introduce us to the area. Enjoyed his laid-back personality. Enjoyed meeting his family. Great experience overall, and great way to end our trip. Area is close enough to main touristy areas via walking or tram, but De Pijp has it's own unique personality with less hectic pace. Would definitely go back.

My boyfriend and I found the perfect place to stay for our first time in Amsterdam. We liked the feel of living in a nieghborhood but surrounded by some activity! The Pijp is an awesome place for that! Great restaurants and shops and very friendly people! The flat is in an awesome location, is very clean and has everything you need for a few days or a longer stay. Dene lives in the building and is so nice and readily available if needed. We would reccomend this to anyone wanting to have a great experience! Travel light, the stairs are narrow! Sue Bell and Tony Moses, Seattle, Wa.

Dene, the owner, met us upon arrival and immediately made us feel welcome. He gave us all kinds of tips on sightseeing; he has plenty of reference materials in the apartment (maps, books and local magazines). We found that very useful. We really liked this apartment; location is great, plenty of restaurants around, cafes, bakeries, shops. We walked quite a bit but the apartment is really close to the tram stop which is very convenient if you are tired. It is exactly as featured on this site and we have no complaints. We enjoyed our stay there!

Really great apartment! I stayed here for a week last month, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I will definitely try to stay here again the next time I return to Amsterdam. Dene (the owner) was great- he took the time to show me around, give me maps of stuff to do in the area, and otherwise acclimate me to Amsterdam. The neighborhood of de Pijp is also great. There's a market and bunch of bars/restaurants to hang out at in the evening that is just down the block. And, if you want to head into the more touristy areas of Amsterdam, it's only a 20 minute walk or a short tram ride away. Trust me, after you spend some time in the touristy area, you'll be happy to come back to de Pijp (which is still lively, but not unbearably so) in the evening. Also, the apartment overall was great. Nice and clean, enough room for two people, and the ability to cook your own food/make your own coffee in the morning really helps out money-wise. There is some noise every morning coming from downstairs, as the workers prepare the stalls for the market that happens everyday (except Sunday, I think), but it isn't long, and I rarely was even awoken by it. Definitely not a reason to overlook this place. So, great apartment, great location, awesome owner. Book it!

To us, this property was better than what we could have wished for. It wasn't in a busy area and everything you want to do in the city is easily accessible. We thought the restaurants and cafes just outside the apartment were better than most in the heart of the city. The apartment felt very comfortable and we felt at home. Further more, the owner is very helpful and only came around upon our request. I would without a doubt rent this place again and anticipate doing so!

This apartment has everything you need: it's clean, nicely fitted out, tastefully decorated, and comfortable. But it's the hosts that really make it stand out. Dene and Judith are friendly and considerate, and they've really thought about the details. The curtains are heavy duty light blockers, so you can get a proper sleep in after a late night. The mini kitchen is well-stocked with cutlery, pots and pans, bottle opener, corkscrew and the like; the toilet is ridiculously well stocked with toilet paper. There are several guides to Amsterdam (including Time Out, my favourite) on the bookshelf, as well as a coffee table book of Amsterdam from the air. The wireless password is written on a blackboard, so you can't misplace it. The location in the heart of the De Pijp is superb. The street is parallel to the bustling Albert Cuyp market, and you're a short walk to bars, bottle shop, bakery, and the best coffee in town. The tram is a stroll away, and gets you into Amsterdam within minutes. It's a stone's throw to the pretty and relaxing Sarphatipark, or a short tram ride to former hippie paradise, Vondelpark. We loved staying just out of the tourist area, but within easy access of Amsterdam's attractions and amenities. Dene is very helpful and knowledgable about all things De Pijp and wider Amsterdam. He gave us recommendations on where to eat and how to get around, helped us with our luggage, and made himself available in case we had any problems or questions. We felt well looked after, which was a far cry from some of the impersonal or uninformed service that we have experienced elsewhere. As other reviewers have mentioned, there is some noise from downstairs when they're setting up the market. We noticed it twice during our week's stay, but we didn't consider it a big deal. We loved our stay in this apartment and have no hesitation in recommending it to other travellers who are looking for a less-typical experience. Big thanks to Judith and Dene!

We loved this place and would recommend it to all our friends and family. It was just as pictured and very well kept. Dene and his family were very welcoming and even took us on a great bike ride out into the countryside. The area has cafes, bars, restaurants and a grocery store all within a few blocks. The transit system is very convenient to the apartment and easy to use. We also rented 8 speed bikes for a ride to the coast from the bike shop right beside the grocery store - good prices and good bikes. It is true about the noise from the market setup and take-down but it doesn't last long and we got used to very quickly. We stayed for a week then came back 2 weeks later and stayed another 9 days - it was so enjoyable; we will definitely want to stay here again whenever we return to Amsterdam (which is a very lovely, interesting city with so much to do and see).

My husband and I recently stayed here as part of our honeymoon, and we both couldn't be happier that we did! The apartment has a great, modern design. It looks just as it does in the photos shown and the owner was very nice, positive, and helpful in directing us to places and sites that we would enjoy. We very much enjoyed having amenities such as the stove, sink, coffee maker, small refrigerator, and microwave because it allowed us to save a GREAT deal of money with being able to cook our own meals versus eating out for every meal. If we had stayed in a hotel, we would have not had this option. The apartment was also very clean and well kept. The area in which the apartment is located is really wonderful. We absolutely loved the location because it was not in the heart of downtown Amsterdam, but it was still centrally located so that all we had to do was to jump onto a tram to get to where we needed to go in just a matter of minutes. There seemed to be a good mix of people in the area, also lots of shops and cafes. Every morning, except for Sundays I believe, there is a very large market that sets up just 1 street over. We were able to buy food (at fairly decent prices) and other items there, which was super convenient. Overall, we absolutely loved the apartment and the area. It was a great place to stay and we look forward to visiting again in the future! If you are a worrier when it comes to choosing the right place to stay/the best option (like myself), then stop worrying and just book this place. :) Rebecca & Fred

I loved this apartment and will definitely try to stay there again in the future. The neighborhood was nice, quiet and gives you a true Dutch experience compared with the canal areas, which is a bit of a tourist haven. The place matched the photos and was clean, very ikea-esque. The noise from the market operations in the morning is really not bad, but the stairs can be a little tricky as they are all over Amsterdam. All in all, I could not have asked for a better place to stay nor location.

We really enjoyed the apartment, and will refer it to friends. We have rented lots of apartments in Europe, and this was one of the cleanest. It was not full of personal things, so you could make it your on. The kitchen worked but, it is small. The view in the court yard is charming, but the bars on the outside of the door need to be secured. Do not even think of touching them, they are attached by suction only. Our host were out of the country, and we did not have the best internet connection. It was frustrating, until they returned home and re-booted it. Then it worked fine, it really needs it's own Wifi. The moving of the carts below the apartment started before six in the morning. It is very loud, and you can hear the people talking. It would be excellent if they could remove this noise that happens twice a day, six days a week. The neighborhood is perfect, you can walk everywhere from the apartment. It is safe, full of restarutants etc. Be very CAREFUL of the bikes, they do not even think of stopping for you. They run red lights and cross walks, it is very dangerous. They expect you to jump out of their way. We always looked both ways before crossing any street. We had a one week stay in the apartment, and will return one day. Amsterdam is a lovely city, and cheaper than a lot of other cities. This apartment even with a few problems is a lovely place to stay.

Owner response: Thanks for your review. Just a quick response to say, the bars are not secured as it also serves as a fire exit, the slow Internet connection was a rare issue with the service provider, the noise from downstairs is always disclosed prior to booking and doesn't seem to bother most people, and sorry, there is nothing I can do about Amsterdam cyclists. Thanks for your visit and we hope to see you again.

I spent 2 weeks enjoying a chance to feel like more like a resident than a tourist at this great apartment. It is conveniently located very close to a number of tram lines, has a great bakery just 1/2 block away. There are lots of shops for either take-away food or ingredients for your own home cooked meal at the apartment. There is a Senso coffee maker as well as a electric kettle for hot water, 2 burners, a microwave, and a small refrigerator. The owner is very helpful and friendly and gave me a listing of many of the restaurants, cafes, grocery stores in the area. The nearby public park is pleasant and peaceful. I felt very comfortable and secure in the house and loved looking out into the courtyard. It was an easy walk to the Museumplein, the Concertgebow, and Leidsplein. The 2 warnings I would give anyone about the apartment are the early morning rumblings mentioned in the description of the apartment (I personally didn't find it a problem) and a pretty challenging staircase(15 or so steps) because of the small size of the steps (I am 62 and wear a brace on one leg and I handled it fine.).

I didn't want to be in the heart of the touristy downtown area. The Pijp (pronounced "pipe") area, just south with good tram connections, seemed to fill the bill. And the apartment which Dene rented was a great find. It's on a street parallel to the Albert Cuyp street market, which is an amazing daily event (except Sundays) with everything you need on sale. Fresh meats, cheeses, veggies, clothing, luggage, household goods, etc. -- stretched out for almost a mile. There are tons of great eating and drinking options within a block or two, the trams stop nearby and you can walk or tram to the major museums and the Heiniken World exhibit. Grocery stores, laundromats, and ATMs are a couple of blocks away. The apartment is set up well, with all the amenities you need for an extended stay, including a giant flatscreen TV if you run out of other things to do. The apt. faces the backside of the building, so you don't have traffic noise generally. Downsides (and Dene is very up-front about this in his advance emails): the street market vendors store gear in nearby buildings and they make some noise early every morning as the haul gear to the market street. I'm a light sleeper, but I did fine with earplugs. The apartment has a smallish bedroom, but the bed is comfortable and there is plenty of storage and elbow room overall in the apartment. And you get to climb one of those classic steep Amsterdam stairs to get to the apartment on the first floor above the street, which should be part of everyone's stay in 'dam. Dene and his family are nice folks and a pleasure to work with. I'd definitely stay there again and it's fun to be in the happenin' part of town, the Pijp.

We loved our stay in this charming apartment in the Pijp. The apartment looks just like its pictures and offered a great jumping-off point for explorations of so many sections of Amsterdam. It was great to be outside of the hectic tourist-jammed part of Amsterdam yet still have most areas of the city within an easy walk--we walked everywhere and felt more like locals because of the location. Dene and Judith were very friendly and offered great recommendations for neighborhood restaurants, bars, etc. When we needed a rest from our long walks, the apartment was a cozy place to have tea, put together snacks, and watch movies. Overall, the apartment was a great deal and a great experience--if we find ourselves in Amsterdam again, we'd stay here again in a heartbeat. Thanks for an amazing stay!

We stayed at this property in late December 2011. My wife and I have stayed in many apartments in Amsterdam, this apartment is at the top of our list. Great location, nice amenitites, friendly hosts, and a tremendous value. The owners could not be more professional or easy going. The neighborhood is lively and filled with great stuff to do. Many ethnic restaurants, shops, bars and coffeeshops are in DePijp. Highly recommend Katsu Coffeeshop and it'd be hard to beat the burgers at Burgermeister or Chinese at the newly opened Nam Kee location nearby. The Albert Cuyp Market is just two minutes walk away and is not to be missed. You do hear the unloading of the market stalls, which are stored in garages on the same street as the apartment, but it doesn't last long and honestly isn't too bad. I didn't even hear it by the end of our stay. The bed, in a seperate room, is comfortable. The bathroom is clean. The small kitchen does the trick, we had no problems preparing simple meals. A grocery store, Albert Heijn, is nearby. We will be staying with Dene and Judith again. Can't wait for that. Dank U!

As vegetarians we often worry when traveling if we will be able to get what we like to eat and being so close to the market we were in heaven. Judith told me upon arriving of the "great" bread shoppe down the street and she wasn't lying it was so yummy. We love to travel but, not stay in touristy surroundings which this location provided. Although you are in the city we were delighted with the less noise pollution we are normally accustomed to. I arrived earlier than check in and Judith was so lovely inviting me up for tea and letting me leave my bags in her place while I checked out the neighbourhood. The listing was more than accurate with their description of the location, appearance and amenities. My partner got delayed with flights and could not get a hold of me, so he contacted Dene who was also away. Dene contacted Judith right away to let me know. I thought this was so thoughtful and kind. I felt very looked after and cared about as a renter and guest. The place was clean and well maintained. Both Judith and Dene were so helpful in answering all our questions about Amsterdam and great ambassadors to this GREAT city. I would highly recommend this property to my friends and family. We loved being so close to the market, the many cafes, pubs, restaurants and shops. It was an easy city to travel in either walking to a museum, taking the bus or tram to other parts of the city, or hailing a cab. As a non-Dutch speaker I was relieved most people spoke English. We went to the ballet which was amazing so if the company is performing I highly recommend going, they were breathtaking. I loved the little falafel place up the street on the main drag, we went there daily as the food was super fresh and staff were great.

The apartment is perfect for two. It is charming. It is located right by a public market (a bit of tolerable noise every morning as equipment is moved for the set-up) which gives the wonderful opportunity to buy bread, cheeses, fruit, freshly squeezed juices and yogurt smoothies and so much more and to bring them upstairs for breakfast. The kitchen and bathroom are more than adequate. If you have difficulties with steep stairs, however, the unit is on the 2nd floor with a traditional steep staircase. Bring less luggage! The trams are a 5 minute walk; Heineken Experience about 10; and the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum within 15/20 minutes. the apartment is in the Pijp section of Amsterdam which has a multitude of fun restaurants and cafes for dinner, many reasonably priced. Our hosts were very helpful and accommodating and we would be happy to make a return trip!

My husband and I spent 4 nights in this clean, well-equipped, cozy, and comfortable apartment in a fantastic location! The apartment is located on a quieter street but De Pijp has many eateries and cafes and there's always a hustle and bustle of foot traffic from the Albert Cuypraat market (which was awesome!). There's a nice morrocan restaurant in the area which Dene and also our travel guide recommended (Mamouche). We rented bikes (Ajax bike rentals which is very close to the apartment) for a day and strolled through Jordaan and Vondelpark...very nice! Everything was accurately depicted on this listing and the owner was very helpful (even had travel books and maps available in the apartment!). This apartment was amazing and the location honestly could not be beat! It's a couple minutes walk to the tram which takes you in and out of the central area, and Van Gogh museum and Heineken brewery are short walk away. The only thing that some might need to know is that the apartment is on the second level with a short, but steep set of stairs...I think this is inevitable in Amsterdam (tall, narrow homes). And the other thing is that there is usually a bit of a ruckus in the morning (~6am) for about an hour or so and in the evening ~5:30-ish to set up and take down the albert market. We did hear some ruckus but it didn't bother us at all (plus the owner made sure we were informed about this noise prior to booking which we appreciated). For the price, location, and great condition of the apartment, the noise is a miniscule inconvenience. We would come back here again and would higly recommended to our family and friends!

We've stayed in many Amsterdam districts, in hotels and apartments, and this is our favorite--no need to look any further! The location was prime--just a few minutes' walk to the Albert Cuyp street market, a great bakery and friendly corner bar. Close to the tram that quickly brings you anywhere in the inner city. The apartment was spotlessly clean and very comfortable--the right amenities for a perfect visit: good reading light, a quiet outlook on a back garden, satellite t.v. and great wifi reception, comfortable bed, close to a large grocery store (too close to fantastic 'frites' stands and the famous Van Dobben sandwich place!). Dene was the best and most conscientious owner we've met; he made us feel very welcome (and even gave us a hand with our suitcases up the steep stairs). He also gave us a few insider tips on how to enjoy Amsterdam as a local. Our our eighth visit to Amsterdam, we feel as though we stuck gold. It was a great experience in a 'real' neighborhood (and the neighbors are nice, too!). Our ninth visit will be at this Pijp apartment.

My husband and I had an absolutely lovely time in this apartment. It's sunny and well appointed, and steps away from great restaurants, a huge market and a nice park. It's located far enough away from the center of town to feel like you're part of real Amsterdam life, but close enough so that a short walk, bike or tram ride takes you to any of the tourist destinations you'd like to see. The owner was super nice and helpful to us, and made us feel like personal guests instead of customers. I just can't say enough nice things about this apartment.

We had a great stay in this apartment! The owner's are responsive and kind, which made booking and the stay excellent. Amsterdam is a fun and beautiful city and this apartment was in a great location to explore it. We lucked out with wonderful weather and the large windows were great to have, we had them open daily! Also, the noise from the market didn't wake us but one night, and we always bring earplugs with us when we travel, so we just put those in and went right back to sleep in that very comfortable bed! Would recommend this apartment to anyone looking to visit Amsterdam! Thanks again! - Megan

This Amsterdam apartment was truly a hidden gem! My husband and I had the pleasure of staying there for roughly one month. We loved that the apartment was centrally located, just around the corner from the famous Albert Cuyp Market. Although there was some noise in the mornings for the market setup, it was not a problem. My husband and I slept with earplugs, so we hardly heard anything. The apartment was clean, quaint and cozy, with modern conveniences. Wireless internet access was definitely a plus, since we brought our laptops. The owners were also extremely accommodating, and readily available for any inquiries about how to get around the city (thanks, Dene!). We highly recommend this beautiful apartment, which without question lived up to its positive online descriptions, and would most certainly stay there again on our next trip.

Host's description of apart was accurate regarding the location. Center is about 20 min. walking, very close to Heineken Museum (10 min walking). Many bars, cafes, coffeshops are located just behind the door, if you don't like restorants the apart has full equipped kitchen-corner to cook nice breafasts and lunches. A little bit noisy in the morning from a street market nearby, but it was not a problem for us. On that street market you can find fresh meal to cook The apart has a full equipped kitchen corner The apart was clean and well maintained and the owner was very helpful. If you want to stay close to center in cosy apart like genuine Amsterdammer but not to overpay for "central" location of small hotel rooms with cardboard walls- Dene's apart is your choice.

My husband and I have stayed twice at this great apartment. The apartment is well set out and has modern comfortable furniture. The bedroom has a large wardrobe with room for both clothes and cases. Everything we needed was provided even a coffee machine! It is not too far from town - about 10-15 minutes by tram. It is a little noisy for a while in the early morning but you soon get used to it. It is a very trendy area and there are good coffee shops and restaurants nearby. Perfect for couples. We will certainly return.

This place is amazing!! Its very cozy and modern, perfect for the everyday traveler or romantic couple. Conveniently located near local eateries, coffee shops, parks, trams, markets and practically anything else you could think of. Far enough out of the tourist zone to get the local feel. Close enough to the tourist zone to be a tourist for the day. Grab a tram at the end of the block and you in the city. The park on the other side of the block is amazing. Be ready for a little noise in the morning time during the market setup. This inconvenience is worth it, being so close to the main market is great. Fresh bread, cheese, and literally anything you could possible need, only a block away. Gracious hosts will fill you in on the scene and are pretty fucking awesome! Thanks DENE for making our trip amazing!!! Hope to come back and see you guys soon!! Sincerely, Joshua & Lauren P.s. DON'T LEAN ON THE WINDOW BARS!!! LMAO

The owners are nice people. The apartment is comfortable and exactly as the pictures show. The noise was more than we anticipated. We read the reviews and the owners alerted us to the fact that they store metal from the market below the apartment and to expect loud noises for about 45 min in the early morning and evening. It seemed more like hours but perhaps we are just light sleepers.

We were delighted with Dene's apartment in Amsterdam. It is in an interesting and lively area, near to shops, restuarants, the market, and the nearby by tram took us to galleries, museums, the concert hall, and to Central Station when we ventured further, and visited Haarlem, and Arnhem. The apartment is small and up a steep flight of steps, it has simple but adequate cooking facilities, is decorated with modern stylish furniture, it has a pleasant outlook and is spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The owners are very welcoming and helpful.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Pijp apartment for three nights in early September. The location is great, right outside the touristy city center. The tram and other mass transit is couple blocks away, though walking in Amsterdam is the best way to get around! Apartment comes with plenty of guides for Amsterdam, which come in handy. Dene was very helpful with any questions we had on where to go, what to see, etc. Going back to de Pijp after a day of seeing the city was very comforting and was like going back to your own home. We were told about the noise below the apartment in the morning, though we didn’t hear it and slept fine. Will stay there again in the future.

My husband and I stayed at this beautiful Pijp apartment for 5 nights in mid-August 2010. It was our wedding anniversary and the location couldn't have been more perfect. It was outside of the main touristy areas and close to a big market and shops and restaurants and just a 2-minute walk to the bus stop and a 5-minute walk to the train stop. The apartment itself is beautiful! Perfect for a couple on holiday. The kitchenette has everything you need, the living area is cozy and the wi-fi connection was great. We were able to check in on our kids back in the U.S. through Skype with no problems. Dene is a wonderful host. He gave us some great ideas for local fun and checked in on us a couple times to make sure we were having a good time. My husband and I both highly recommend this apartment.

We stayed for a week in August and were very happy with the apartment. Dene is a great host; friendly and helpful, but not intrusive. It's clean, well-maintained, well-equipped. Guidebooks and maps were a nice touch. WiFi works well. Look at the photos and you'll know what to expect. Not in the tourist area, which is what we wanted. You can get to all the attractions downtown with a 15-minute ride on the 16 or 24 Tram just two blocks away, but we were glad to escape from the crowds and come back to a real apartment in a real neighborhood. Bakery, restaurants and cafes on the corner. Fresh fruit and vegetables in the market. Supermarkets an easy walk. Don't miss Sarphatipark, a little jewel very close by. An easy walk to the Museum Quarter, Heineken Brewery and the canal boat tours, or you can take the tram. All the dinner entrees are 5 euros at Monte Verde Italian Restaurant, Albert Cuyp Straat heading toward the museums. Salads (4 euros) are big enough for two. A very good deal for Amsterdam. The apartment is on the second floor - U.S. (European first floor). This is an old Dutch house with an old Dutch staircase: very steep and very narrow at the end of a narrow hallway. We're in pretty good shape and it could still be tough to negotiate, esp. carrying luggage or packages. The noise issue. Your response is going to vary depending on how soundly you sleep and what they're doing downstairs on any given morning. It sounds like they store the steel frames for the market stalls under the apartment and move them on metal carts with heavy wheels. When they're just rolling the carts, it can sound like thunder rumbling in the distance. That wasn't bad. Other mornings, when they dropped or knocked over the steel frames, it was loud. It starts at 5 a.m. and is over by 5:45 a.m., so it's definitely a consideration. My partner said if he had had his white noise machine it would have been fine, so if you have a small one, bring it. (Or maybe you could get a fan, Dene.) There's no market on Sunday, so if you're there Saturday night, it's going to be very quiet. The apartment is at the back of the building in the middle of the block overlooking several courtyards. There is a daycare center next door; the kids play outside when the weather is nice and can also be pretty loud, but they were gone by 6 p.m. and are not there on weekends. Other than that, we really didn't hear anything from the other buildings or the street in the evening. We'd definitely stay again

This little apartment was perfect for my husband and I to stay in for a week! It's cozy and located in a wonderful (non-touristy) part of town. Dene, the renter, is very nice and helpful! The only downsides I can report are that it's noisy Mon.-Sat. at 6am and 6pm when beneath you storage equipment from the market gets taken out and put back. Also, you can hear all footsteps and movements coming from the apartment above. Otherwise, it was great! We'd stay there again.

We stayed in Dene & Judith's apartment for 1 week. The apartment was absolutely spotless & beautifully appointed.Attention to detail was obviously paramount in setting up this space. The apartment is located in a quiet street just around the corner from the famous Albert Cuyp Markets which is a bustling area where you can buy anything from buttons to baguettes. There are 2 supermarkets 200 metres away, cafes, coffee shops, bars, fish, meat & cheese shops abound. The cultural area of the city is a short walk or a tram ride to places like the Rykmuseum,Van Gogh Museum & others.Dene & Judith are congenial hosts & will help with information you may need.A steep flight of stairs is to be negotiated to reach the apartment but as two 70 year olds we had no trouble & Dene would help with baggage.I would definitely stay again & certainly recommend it to my friends in fact I have already done so.The experience was excellent & we came away feeling we had not only seen Amsterdam,we lived it.Thank you Dene & Judith.

I did stay in this apartment at the beginning of June. First of all, the location is great, it is a charming green family and trendy neighborhood 15min walk from the touristic center. The apartment is actually even better than what you see in the photos, it is decorated with a lot of style, beautiful furniture. Everything is created for you to feel comfortable:city guides, great DVD collection, nice kitchen....And of course the owners make the whole experience even better, they're helpful, respectful, interesting and interested people. Needless to stay that I highly recommend this place, but it is for special interesting people only.....I want it to be available for the next time I come to Amsterdam!

I would absolutely recommend this apartment and would certainly stay there again. Our initial concern was that it was a little far from the town center, but the tram system is great. We were able to get anywhere we wanted in 10-20 minutes. In fact, we were just walking/sightseeing and found ourselves near the train station. The neighborhood is great, many shops, restaurants, etc. The stairs are steep, but not a problem (I found steep stairs to be very common throughout are sightseeing). The apartment is clean, modern and has plenty of room. The bathroom is very nice and the kitchenette was perfect. Dene was very helpful and a great host (didn't get to meet Judith). I would agree with the other commenter, that the morning noise is the only thing keeping me from giving an excellent rating. Like I said, I would definitely stay again, but it might be an issue for you. Thanks Dene!

What a fantastic place, owned and maintained by wonderful, welcoming people. We've stayed in dozens of VRBO places over the years, but this spot easily wins the day. This apartment has everything you need for an incredibly comfortable and relaxing stay in Amsterdam, right in the middle (literally) of a bustling, cool, and totally accessible neighborhood. If you have any concern about where the 'De Pijp' neighborhood is, don't worry: it is close to everything. We walked through different parts of the city each day of our nine day trip--in every direction--and everything we wanted to see was never more than a 20 minute walk from our front door. But, if you don't feel like walking, the tram is just steps away, too. De Pijp is filled with lots of great bakeries and shops, but you probably won't need to go to most of them because the famous Albert Cuyp Market is just around the corner -- a massive and diverse market that has anything you could possibly want, from flowers to fish, cheese to electronics, and the freshest fruits and vegetables. Really great. The apartment itself is spotless and bright, decorated thoughtfully and simply. There are little touches that matter all over the place, from the french press in the cabinet to the super soft sheets and pillowcases. Really: everything is just right, but not fussy. Personally, we thought the hosts had terrific taste in movies and music, as evinced by the wide selection of DVDs you are left with... to watch on the widescreen plasma TV -- nice! If you're up for staying in, cooking dinner, and watching a film, you're set. And if not, again, this is a great neighborhood in which to have a night out. A quick word about the owners: Dene and Judith are kind and generous. Because they live in the building, this is also their home, and it shows in their attention to detail and the care they've put into the apartment. This is a far cry from a distant rental an owner never sees -- clearly, this is a spot well-loved. The owners are great about answering any questions, helping out with travel tips, and they cook a mean breakfast, should you be lucky enough to be staying here on a Sunday.... The price is right for this De Pijp apartment, not as with other rentals that overcharge just to gouge a profit. If you're looking for a fantastic, lovely, warm and welcoming spot in Amsterdam, look no further -- this place really has it all.
