Why the Owner Chose Amelia Island Plantation
We have been fortunate to be able to explore, travel and visit resorts in many parts of the world. We considered home purchases in several of these, but selected Amelia Island Plantation for its combination of unique natural beauty, convenience, safety, and wonderful resort amenties. The stunning beach, tennis courts, golf, biking and walking trails, and the close-by charming town of Fernandina Beach with wonderful eateries, art galleries, and friendliness just make for a wonderful vacation destination.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Our home has a very special feel to it of warmth and tranquility. We put great effort into the selection of fabrics, art, and furniture to produce a comfortable home of simple pleasures. It is unassuming, but the over 100 year old heart of pine floors (we spent several years searching for the wood!) is just indicative of the care we have put into the home. Located on a cul-de-sac, both the inside and outside environment are tranquil, at night you can sit on the back decks and hear the roar of the ocean just 0.5 miles away, but you are never in the roar of the crowds as in the oceanside condos and homes here.

Rhonda and Jay are university faculty members in the planning, design and construction areas. We love renovating and decorating houses, and have put great care and thoughtfulness into this home. Our five children have spent wonderful summers and holidays here and truly consider it their second, but most favorite home. We are honest and responsible and take take great joy in hosting our visitors many of whom continue to return year after year. We hope you will, also.
Warmly,
Jay and Rhonda

We all had a great time at "The Nantucket" We were especially appreciative of your prompt, efficient, professional, service in our hour of need when the a/c quit. True to the ad "The Nantucket" spoke to the soul. To single out one thing I would have to say "everything". The place was warm, homey, and comforting. When we sat outside the lizards tried extra hard to communicate. The art throughout the house said the owners welcomed you and wished you the best of stays. The weather could not have been nicer. The house could not have been better stocked. Sandpiper was very clean and very serene, bordering on spiritual. The Bonfire and Movie Night at the Pool were pleasant and unexpected surprises. Thank you for a memorable vacation. Anthony John & Monica Anthony Lawrence and Karen Noah and Ella

We just returned from our week vacation. We traveled with our 2 young kids (2 years and 3 months) and loved everything about the house, the island and the plantation. We had been to the plantation the year before but had not rented a house. Everything with the house was great, from the first moment we emailed with the owner until we left, everything and everyone was great. The house is perfect for a young family and once the kids were down we enjoyed cooking a nice dinner in the kitchen and then relaxing on the back porch with a drink. We walked every morning with the kids around the plantation and spent most afternoons at the pool or on the beach, it was the perfect vacation and the perfect house to vacation in.

My wife and I and our two teenagers visited 3-28-10 through 4-2-10. Had not been to the island before, but had no problem enjoying the owner's bikes on self guided tours exploring AIP. We brought kayaks and really enjoyed putting in at Marsh's landing just down the road from the house. The sound side is beautiful and sunset spectacular. The state parks at the very north and south end of the island were fun to explore. The south side (closer to the house) was a fun destination jogging on the beach and shell collecting. The north side state park gives a chance to see FL woods and wildlife. The town and shops in Ferdandina were very old time small town very cool.

We just returned from our week on Amelia Island. This rental lives up to its photos! It is well equipped; well maintained, very clean and super convenient. We decided not to bring any household items with us and did not regret that choice. Everything necessary from a steak knife to laundry detergent was on hand. The house is quite roomy and nicely decorated. We enjoyed having bikes available, as well. We recommend the AIP bike tour, Kayak Amelia and ECO motion segway tour. Enjoy all AIP has to offer.

We just returned from two weeks on Amelia - and from our home away from home. The "cottage" has become so familiar now that we just settle in immediately. This time we had our children and our children's children for part of the time. Our 14 month old granddaughter "took off" for the first time - wandering all over the halls. We will always remember her first steps there! Everything was as comfortable as ever and the weather was glorious as always. Due to all the rain this year - the forest was phenomenally lush and green - a true jungle. Reminding us how little it would take for nature to reclaim this patch of paradise. Thanks to Jay and Rhonda for gently pushing the jungle back and keeping the cottage set and ready for all of us lazy beachcombers!

I had a great time at Amelia. We were there for a convention so part of our trip was work. Everything was super convenient including the shuttle to the center each day. The house has all we needed and more. Enjoyed the bikes and all the other ammenities. Jay was very pleasant to work with. Thanks so much for everything.

We really enjoyed our stay at your home. We love Amelia Island, and have been many times before, but always stayed at the hotel. The house was perfect for my toddler to have room to run around, and no stairs to deal with. All of the toys in the garage really kept him busy. We enjoyed the privacy and full kitchen as well. We hope to stay here again next summer because it was just lovely.

We had two weeks of paradise anchored by your wonderful house. Everyday was a glorious beach day with more to do than we could keep up with. Swimming, beachcombing, biking, boating etc. etc. We enjoyed your lovely house so much that we felt torn to leave but the beach called and upon return we could cook lovely meals, laze away on the porches or have a "serious" ping pong" match. The house was well equipped, entirely charming and inviting and impeccably clean. I loved getting up earlier than the rest of the clan and having my coffee on the deck and listening to the birds. A Cooper's Hawk walked by just under my feet and didn't even know I was there. The quiet forest primeval, the cushy comfort of the cottage, and the proximity of the wide open Atlantic - what more could one want. Thanks for a terrific vacation - we will be back!

From the moment we walked in, we were home! Groceries were all we needed. Early morning coffee on the deck, sitting with feet on the railing in Adirondack chairs, relaxed, listening to the birds calling to each other, watching them flit from branch to branch -- a great way to start one's day. Louis, Annette and the boys, as well as their Auntie Sarah, took off for the beach each day on the bikes, while Pop Pop relaxed, read, watched the game, took long walks, had lunch at the Ritz with Nana Banana. PopPop took everyone to their favorite luncheon spot, Firehouse Subs, for some mouth-burning specialities. Your kitchen was great and we prepared breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. We were so comfortable, we set around the table after dinner, played word cames and laughed ourselves silly. Sarah was "surprised" with a dinner/birthday party by nephews Jared and Jacob. We loved our home away from home. You have thought of everything. Nature was encouraged to do and be her most beautiful. What humanity is capable of creating when we work with nature is evident there -- the marshes, the live oak hammocks, the homes nestled in amongst the live oak forest, the beaches (yes, I did make it to the beach), were greatly appreciated by us all. We hope to come back next year.
