We spent 10 days here exploring the D-Day beaches, Bayeux, and the Normandy countryside. It was a perfect location, about an hour's drive from most sites and we also worked in a trip to Mont St. Michel, also about an hour away. The cottage was perfect for us, quiet, fairly rural, but close to markets, a good boulangerie and a couple good restaurants (don't miss the 16'eme Ouest on the coast road). The cottage was well stocked with everything we needed.

We had our Easter break at the cottage and it could not have been better. It suited our needs down to the ground. Everything is laid out in a good way. As Alistair pointed out he had spent a Summer in the cottage so was able to get everything spot on. We even managed a lunch on the terrace all be it not in shorts. The bakery just down the road is a gem. We could have gone crazy and gained a tone of weight if we had tried all the fresh cakes that they make daily. We spent a lot of our time driving up the coast and finding little beaches with no one on them. It seemed we had the place to our selves. Having read some of the other review we took a trip to Granville and had a fantastic fish dinner and a walk about in the charming harbour. Sadly now back to the grind. We would love to come back.

Long weekend in Normandy. Thank you for a warm welcome to the cottage. We had a lovely time at the cottage and in Normandy. It was a perfect spot to explore the area . We eat out very well down in Granville. The sea food was incredible we eat at a restaurant where the harbour was just over the road. The old town is very atmospheric and is a working town not a museum. We also spent some time at the D day beaches and found it very touching. We both had such a nice time we would love to come back.

Just a quick note to say a big thank. You both were great. We stayed at the stables for most of Jan 2013. We needed a base to find a house in Normandy that would be a project for the summer and then the rest of our lives. The Cottage was immaculate and had everything we needed. All mode cons at hand and snug, the weather as you can imagine was not great but the cottage top draw. We could not have asked for more other than no snow. Any way house bought and can’t wait til we are back in August to attacked the new house/project. I just hope that I can find a mobile home half as good as the Cottage or the wife will be very unhappy indeed. All the best, see you in August fingers crossed . Mick & Jacki

We were delighted to find this cosy, well maintained property for our stay. It was just as described with modern appliances., Wi-Fi, and lovely hot water. We appreciated that we were in a quiet rural village while larger cities were within easy travel time. Our host was amicable and close by in case we needed assistance. It may be unusual to visit this time on year but we were enchanted to have the Bayeux Tapestry all to ourselves and experience Chateau de Carrouges as a private tour. We also enjoyed fresh seafood from Granville in our kitchen. Hope to return but never in high season.

We did a last minute booking and shot over to France. The Stables was perfect just to kick back and chill. We also did the sights most of them being an hour or less away. Alistair way helpful but not in the way. Basically 10/10. Will come back.

The cottage was perfect for our needs. Alistair was a bit shocked when we turned up in the beast our modified 4x4. We had it shipped from the states and picked it up from Cherbourg. The cottage was used to get us organised for our road trip. We needed a base to road and mud test the car before we started the trip from France to South Africa and also to get in supplies for the trip. The cottage was perfect, fully fitted everything , high speed internet and all the shops just down the road. We did not have time to get to know Normandy sadly but would have loved to. I know that our needs at the time were a bit odd and off the wall but had we booked for a normal vacation then the cottage would have been 10 out 10. Alistair was helpful when we needed advice, but did not hover around all the time so we were left to do our own thing. Any way back on the road . Best regards Jon and Bonnie

We stayed at the Cottage for two weeks but could have stayed longer. It was just what we were looking for. My husband flew in from the far east and I flew in from the states. We stayed for the first two weeks of a four week vacation. The area had the best of both worlds in terms of being off the beaten track but not in the sticks. We rented a car in Paris and drove down. We had no idea or what to expect from the drive but it was a breeze. The highways are empty and the local roads are never busy. You are a stones throw away from Coutances that has all the grocery needs covered and cafes for coffee’s or hot chocolate. Then there is a whole bunch of other places within an hour’s drive, on clear roads to visit as well. We tried to eat out as much as possible and found some great places in Coutances, Agon- Coutainville and Granville. I love fish and Rufus loves his meat and we had lots of choice in all the restaurants. When we did stay in the kitchen had every thing we needed. Alistair has gone to a lot of trouble to get the cottage just right for two. As he said to us himself , the cottage is comfortable and cosy for two, not more. The living room is relaxing and the fire was great in the evening. The bedroom has a nice double bed and a bath room with a shower and bath. All in all we loved it and would recommend it to any one. All the best Ali and Rufus

It does what it says on the tin. My husband and I looked for a vacation in our vacation. We had 6 weeks on the road and who knows how many miles on the clock seeing as much of Europe and the UK as we could. The rental car became part of the family. We then needed to have a break and what a break. Having stayed in numerous gites , guest houses and hotels we were delighted to have all the mode cons at the cottage. Alistair immediately made use feel welcome. Then left us to our owe devises. We spoke for ages with the kids and grand kids via the internet and just kicked back. It was a joy to walk down the hill to get the bread and then burn off the calories we had just eaten in cakes at the bakery at Pont De La Roche. We loved the coast and the fact that every thing you need is five minutes away but the village of Orval is very quiet and relaxed. The cottage has a compact but very well organized kitchen with a dish washer and washing machine. What a bonus. The living area is perfect and snug with the electric fire and the TV. It was nice to watch a bit of English TV. The bedroom had a lovely comfortable bed with a modern en suit bath room. Nice to have a bath so many places now just have a shower these days. In short as described the VRBO advert. We would recommend it to any one and would come back if in Normandy. Thanks again.

Dear Alistair, Thank you for a lovely week it was just what the Doctor ordered. My wife and I had been working in Paris for six months , and although Paris was nice it is still another city. Due to the pressures of work we were pretty much flat out from the time we arrived in Paris. So we looked for and found a gem of a place. Some days we just stayed at the cottage and read books we had not looked at for ages. It was so good just be able to eat when hungry and sleep when tiered , time could have just stood still. We also made the effort to visit the D day beaches , only 45 minutes away. We both had family had ended their days in France, and it was very moving to have seen the area’s that they had seen at first hand. On a lighter note we found some great places to eat. The French eateries are great for lunches at about €12 per person for three courses and coffee. Do some internet time before you get here and you will be able to make the most of your vacation. We would have loved to have visited the Channel Island’s but ran out of time. Next time fingers crossed. Thank you again. Alf & Danni

              Owner info

              Year Purchased: 2008

About the owner: I moved to France to get out of the rat race in London. First house was in the Cathedral town of Coutances. Having renovated that it was time for a change again so moved to “The Farm House” in Orval. It has kept me very busy for the last two years. When I get to tired to work it is off to the beach for some R&R

              Why the Owner Chose Coutances:
I wanted to be nearer the seas and out of town. As soon as I walked in it was a case of how am I going to buy the house not if I am.
