Cimarron cabin description
Cozy, log cabin situated at 9,500 feet elevation surrounded by aspen and pine trees. If you love the outdoors or just want to get away from it all, this is the place to consider. You'll enjoy having your early morning coffee outdoors and will probably be greeted by the neighborhood deer, snowshoe rabbits, and other wildlife. There is outdoor log furniture and chairs for lounging and the spacious redwood deck has two tables for ample seating. For easy grilling there is a Weber gas grill and the kitchen was just remodeled and is a chef's delight. Ample dishes & cooking ware, spices, new appliances. There is also a restaurant & lounge with a friendly staff which is located approximately one mile from the cabin. We are located in Arrowhead Ranch Mountain Subdivision - is somewhat off the beaten path but has well maintained roads and offers the peace and solitude that we all long for.
There are 3 private lakes in the subdivision, hiking, walking, four wheeling, mountain biking, sightseeing. Blue Mesa Reservoir is approximately 15 miles away, the breathtaking Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Monument is 28 miles away. There are airports in Gunnison and Montrose which are approximately 40 miles each way.

Base Camp for Elk Hunt
Base Camp for Elk Hunt
This cabin worked perfectly for our elk hunt in area 66. We found it in excellent condition, and with all the amenities of home. Plenty of room for all our gear, and the kitchen was so well equipped that we easily prepared all our meals with ease. Having a washer and dryer in the kitchen is BRILLIANT! Very close to BLM and National forest land, so if you are lucky enough to draw a tag you can be into the woods in no time from the cabin. We also highly recommend a visit or two to the bar and restaurant at the Inn at Arrowhead, just a mile down the road. The folks that run it are great and the beer is awesome. I would highly recommend this cabin for a getaway week or weekend to some of the most beautiful wilderness in the country!

Beautiful and peaceful
Beautiful and peaceful
We spent 2 weeks in Mary's cabin and we will go back anytime we can. The cabin was very comfortable and nicely decorated. It has very nice furniture and comnfortable beds. We saw many deer in the yard and around the property. The aspens were breath-taking and we actually got some snow. It was majestic. Fishing was wonderful at Blue Mesa. Mary is a wonderful hostess.

Wonderfully relaxing family vacation
Wonderfully relaxing family vacation
The Castaway was wonderfully cozy and relaxing. I love to cook, and Mary's kitchen did not lack anything. The sound of rain on the metal roof during a storm was so relaxing. The area is beautiful beyond words. My 14 yr old daughter made it through the week without internet or cell phone service. We finally had time to play card games, read books an watch movies together (Mary has a nice movie collection). We brought out ATVs with us and took them into the National Park which offered us some of the best views we've ever seen. Fishing at Flint Lakes with the "wild" horses around us will always be one of our favorite vacation memories. It was all together a fantastic vacation. Mary was wonderful. We talked to her several times during our stay and she was extremely helpful answering our questions or suggesting areas we should visit. We took her advice and went on the boat ride through the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Absolutely breathtaking scenery! Lot's of deer, beautiful aspens and amazing rainbows topped off our incredible week. If you have the chance to visit the Castaway you won't be disappointed. Thanks Mary for sharing your beautiful getaway.

What a great place to stay. The cabin was clean, well equipped, and perfect location. We spent time at the cabin as well as time in Montrose and Gunnision - the cabin in perfectly situated in the mountain and in between Montrose and Gunnison. The loft which had 5 twin matresses was comfortable and my kids loved being up there. The other two beds were comfortable as well. There was plenty of space out on the patio to sit and talk and eat. All in all it was a perfect stay!

We loved the cabin and the area. We saw an abundance of wildlife, including a bear who ambled passed one afternoon. The Castaways is located in a wonderful area. It is a good place for a base camp. We went to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP, took a relaxing 3 hour float trip with Scenic Rafting and the boat ride from Morrow Point Dam thru the Park system. Next time we will try the the class 3 and 4 rapids. The cabin is very relaxing and homey. We wanted for nothing. Thank you Mary for all you helped us with! Barb and Jim

A great place to stay
A great place to stay
This is a very nice cabin to stay in. Really enjoyed having happy hour on the deck. Mule deer are darn near tame and all through the development. We had many cruising by and feeding in sight of us. Coffee on the deck with elk bugling in the early morning was an extra treat. Mary and her son Todd were excellent hosts, willing to answer any questions or help with any issues. I would definitely return.

Thanks for sharing your cabin and this beautiful spot. Enjoyed the Black Canyon and Curecanti - so different from our first visit in 1964. Especially enjoyed the day that we spent at Castaways with long walks, lunch on the patio, visits from two deer and the incredible peace and quiet. Thanks so much for letting us bring our old dog Radar who spent every chance he had sleeping on the porch. With luck, we'll be in touch and return again, Mary. It was a wonderful stay.

Was looking for a mountain cabin, secluded, away from phones, TV's, work, etc and we found this and more at this property. We trailed our Harley and saw some of the most beautiful scenery within 100 miles. The cool pines and abundance of lakes was awesome. The cabin itself was just as described. It was clean, quiet and lacked nothing. I would highly recommend this rental. I could go on and on but it was a great place to celebrate a 60th birthday (birth week). It was my gift to him. It was hard to leave such peacefulness and tranquility. A great time to renew oneself as well as a relationship.

About the owner: I moved to Colorado in 1970, immediately fell in love with the mountains of the most beautiful state in the union. Twenty-seven years later I was able to purchase this small modest cabin which was as much in need of me and I was it. With the help of a friend, it has been a labor of love to totally remodel it into a beautiful, very comfortable & cozy cabin. I am now semi-retired and spend as much time as possible at the cabin. I find peace & contentment in the mountains & I love sharing my cabin with family & friends.
