Vacation with family or friends at our beautiful retreat in the Wind River Valley about 5 miles west of Dubois, Wyoming.
This spacious, comfortable ranch house is set in the center of 294 private acres, a spectacular site directly adjacent to the Shoshone National Forest and the Wind River Range. The windows and decks provide breathtaking views across the valley to the peaks of the Absoroka mountains, red rock badlands, sagebrush hills and forest. It is easily accessible by car all year round, less than a mile via good road from Wyoming Route 26, 10 minutes from the picturesque town of Dubois, and 20 minutes from the Wind River Indian Reservation to the east. Private trails begin just outside the door, leading directly into the Shoshone National Forest and Warm Springs Canyon, a lovely secluded fishing and picnicking spot (see photo). There are gentle horses on site and if requested, the owner can offer instruction in grooming, horse care and safe lead-line pony rides for children and novices at no cost. An excellent riding facility one mile away offers expert western or English riding instruction.
The house is comfortably furnished with a large great room/dining area with hearth and wood stove, perfect for congenial gatherings. It can easily accommodate 8-10 guests including children, with 3 large bedrooms plus a sleeping loft, 2½ baths and a well-equipped modern kitchen. One bedroom has a queen bed and private bath; 2 other bedrooms each have queen and twin bed; the loft has a double futon bed. The shared bath is designed for privacy with separate shower/bath, toilet and lavatory rooms. A roomy mud room/entry has a convenient ½ bath.

The cabin was a perfectly sized 2-bedroom for my husband and me (Bedroom 1) and two children (shared Bedroom 2 with two twins). Everything was clean and pleasant, a relief after a week of camping! Arriving with loads of laundry, I can attest that the washer and drier work beautifully! The lack of TV was a must for us. After days spent hiking, swimming in creeks and hotsprings, wandering around town, we enjoyed cooking dinners together in the well-stocked kitchen and playing Scrabble and other games provided in the cabin. Marian provided plenty of maps and suggestions for hikes, and the kids loved her horses Arapahoe and Cruiser! The views from the cabin were incredible -- the Absaroka mountains off the front porch, the ruins of early settlers cabins behind -- and the mama and baby mule deer visiting us each and every day. It was quiet and set back from the main road and other homes, but also a quick (~5 mi) drive into town. The Dubois museum was fun for all of us, as was the bighorn sheep museum (beware of the great giftshop!). Shopowners in town were incredibly sweet and happily spent their time teaching us about Sheepeater traditions and ragtime piano. To give a sense of distances, we drove from the cabin one day to Grand Teton NP for a short hike and ferry ride, had an early dinner in Jackson, and returned to the cabin early evening. The Towogotee Pass is a beautiful drive -- and only getting better with some road improvements that were ongoing during our visit. It was a great week in Dubois. I could go again and stay in this cabin in a heartbeat!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Please note that the Robinsons did not rent our ranch house (this listing) but instead rented our smaller guest cabin VRBO #296317, which is also on the ranch. This review thus describes the guest cabin, not the larger 3+ bedroom ranch house, so it was placed in this listing by mistake. If you're looking for a smaller house with all the advantages of our 294-acre property, check out VRBO #296317. In any case the Robinsons were delightful guests and we enjoyed providing lead-line horse rides for the kids.

Homestead Draw is absolutely breathtaking! This ranch and Dubois is a great place to experience true "family' time. It's a great home base for all the area National Parks,Yellowstone,Tetons and for the local hiking, biking and horseback riding in the area. It's a few short miles into Dubois, a true small western town with good food,a Tuesday nite square dance and a Friday nite rodeo! Marian was more than a gracious host, knowledgeable in the area and the off the path "must see" areas. The wildlife, elk, moose, mule deer, pronghorns were abundant and only overshadowed by the beauty of the mountains, red rock and the Wind River at your door step. My family and I all agree that this was or best vacation to date. If your looking for a true getaway,a very nicely apointed western home and adventure, Homestead Draw would make for the perfect vacation place. We are planning our return already! Marian, thanks for sharing your place with us and for your hospitality!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

From the moment we drove up "Homestead Draw " I sensed something spectacular... Ram's Horn peak came into view as we followed the road to "Ranch House " at about 7200 ft. elevation. Marian met us & gave us a tour of the property. Books to read, spices to cook with, but the view..., the quiet... The quiet was deafening, no dogs barking, no car/truck noise, no sirens... I heard a woodpecker one morning early. Front porch for the view, back deck for the sun or the shade depending on the time of day. Marian was a gracious host. Not that we expected that, but it was much appreciated. She pointed us in the right direction for our adventures. Close enough to Tetons & Yellowstone for a day trip, but far enough away from the action to be able to relax. Day hikes were close by. NO TV- we were aghast at first... But after it settled in, we were truly blessed not to have in as an intrusion into our family vacation. I made a deal w/my 12 year old son that he wouldn't watch anymore mindless cartoons & I wouldn't watch anymore mindless news/political commentary. Internet connection & cell service for those that can't can't completely disconnect... All I can say is book it, but save a place for us so we can come back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

The setting of the Homestead Draw is just fantastic. Perched on the mountain side, it provides spectacular views which change throughout the day. It was hard for us to put our camera away as the angles of the sun seemed to continuously transform the landscape. With a dusting of winter up in the high mountains came a whole new set of views that make this place just breath-taking. The ranch spread provides plenty of privacy and the folks we did meet in the area and Dubois were extremely friendly. We found so many enjoyable easy trips from Jackson Hole, South Pass gold town, National Forest and obviously, Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Parks. We also fly fished, visited the incredible petroglyphs, went horseback riding ... pretty much everything this site says exceeded our expectations. The ranch itself is just awesome. Very roomy and very comfortable with plenty of windows for just sitting back and enjoying the view. This was our first time to this part of Wyoming and we absolutely can't wait to come back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

The description and photos on this listing doesn't really do the place justice -- the house and surrounding area are beautiful. Everything was well maintained and Marion (the owner) was very pleasant and accommodating to our every request, and we made some unordinary ones. I would definitely stay at this property again and recommend it to anyone who likes privacy and likes to be removed from the more "touristy" areas. Dubois is a refreshing small town but not too small to have several places to shop and eat. The Cowboy Cafe was my favorite -- save room for the homemade pie!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

About the owner: The Neutra Family Retreat property, “Homestead Draw Ranch”, is co-owned by me and my 3 sons. I am a semi-retired biologist and professor/researcher, a lifelong western rider and outdoors-person who has loved Wyoming since childhood, having spent many summers on a ranch in the Tetons and many vacations on Wyoming ranches since. My sons also love the wilderness; one is an engineer and Peace Corps volunteer who formerly worked in the Wind River Reservation schools and wrangled horses for a Dubois outfitter. Our goal was to establish a retreat where we can enjoy this unique and spectacular country together with children, grandchildren and good friends. Because of the busy schedules of our family, the ranch house is unoccupied during many beautiful weeks. Thus we are able to offer it to others who want to experience the best of Wyoming in a comfortable, convenient setting.
Why the Owner Chose Dubois:
The Dubois area is unique: it is an unspoiled, friendly western town nestled between 2 mountain ranges, surrounded by millions of acres of pristine National Forest, and within easy reach of Teton and Yellowstone Parks. The nearby Wind River provides many potential fishing spots, and it’s a short drive to many other topnotch trout streams and lakes. Enjoy trout fishing on your own or with local guides. The hiking opportunities in the Wind River Range, the Absaroka mountains, the red rock badlands or the Continental Divide, are endless. Nearby ranches and outfitters provide trail rides and backcountry pack trips. Ancient Indian petro glyphs and fossils are abundant in a valley just 10 miles away. Dubois offers good restaurants, art and gift shops, library and museums. In summer there’s a weekly rodeo, square dancing, and music in the park. Teton Park and Yellowstone are only 1 – 1.5 hours away. At the end of the day, just relax on the ranch house decks to enjoy the wildlife and ever-changing views of mountains, forest and big sky.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Easy access combined with the privacy of a 294 acre property. Beautiful hikes, right out the door.
