Sunny Farmhouse, 3 Minute Walk to Private Dock on Caspian Lake
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
A beautifully renovated farmhouse with large attached barn located on 30 acres. Large deep front porch with two hammocks overlook the Caspian Lake, one of Vermont's most pristine lakes. The spacious back deck is surrounded by perennial flower beds and looks over a wonderful flower garden to open fields to mountains beyond. Adirondack chairs, an outdoor dining table and a charcoal grill make this a favorite living area. The large lawn invite croquet tournaments. Recently planted raspberries and blueberry bushes might yield a few treats this summer. A well-established blackberry patch awaits. A fire circle complete with stone seats is a magical place for evening campfires, toasting marshmallows, singing songs or simply gazing at the fire. An old clawfoot tub has been converted to an outdoor 'hot tub.' Enjoy a hot bath outside while stargazing and watching fireflies. A three minute walk down a grassy path leads to a private swimming dock. The house comes with shared canoe privileges. No motor boats please. Free Wireless.
The first floor has an open-plan living/dinning/kitchen area with a separate bedroom (queen bed), full bath with tub and shower and laundry room. There is a large attached barn with another hammock and a ping pong table - perfect for rainy days. A large library and extensive game and puzzle closet offers amusements for all ages. The second floor has three bedroom: a master bedroom with king-size bed and a window seat, a second bedroom with a queen bed and a child's bed and a third bedroom with two twin beds. The funky second-floor bathroom is decorated with mementoes from the beauty parlor was run out of this house in the 40s and 50s.
Greensboro is located in the Northeast Kingdom, the most rural, and beautiful part of Vermont. There are miles of walking and biking trails and back-country roads to explore and fishing in the lake and nearby rivers. Barr Hill Preserve, now owned by the Nature Conservancy, is a favorite hiking spot offering views of both the Green Mountains of Vermont and White Mountains of New Hampshire. Evening picnics on Barr Hill watching the sunset over the lake is a tradition.
The town of Greensboro itself is lively summer community with many concerts, lectures, cultural activities including Sunday evening lake concerts, the Craftsbury Chamber Music Series and Circus Smirkus, a fabulous, kid-only circus. There is a family-friendly golf and tennis club open to guests and horseback riding nearby. The local general store, Willey’s can accurately be described as a place where if it isn't there, you don't need it! Greensboro is at the epicenter of the local food movement in Vermont. There are artisan cheese makers, dairy and grass-feed meat farmers and organic farm stands. Two nearby excellent restaurants, Highland Lodge and Claire's, rely on locally produced food for their menus. Antique stores are everywhere. Bread and Puppet is located close by.

This was a great place to bring a family and relax! The house was spacious with a big dining table and a beautiful backyard, as well as two hammocks on the covered front porch. Plenty of room for everyone. It is an easy walk down a mowed path to get to the lake, which is clear and refreshing. My family and friends enjoyed our stay here - the fire pit was a lot of fun - and the beach nearby was perfect for small kids as well as groups interested in picnics and bbqs. The house is located on a very scenic road - lots of nice walks and views. Liza was very helpful and friendly - she gave lots of good tips and advice for fun activities around the area. I would definitely recommend this place to my family and friends!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

I have known Liza for 30 years and have spent many summer weekends and holidays at her Caspian Lake house. My family has enjoyed hiking, road cycling, swimming and canoeing, and mountain biking in the area. We have many fond memories of evening picnics on Barr Hill, trips to the wonderful Willy's store in Greensboro, watching Circus Smircus, and loading up on fresh fruits and veggies from the local farm stand. The farmhouse is a great place to relax -- whether lounging on the back deck overlooking Liza's beautiful garden and the rolling Vermont countryside, napping on the hammock on the front porch, or enjoying family and friends around the outdoor fire pit or the living room fireplace -- a great place for a rejuvenating holiday. I highly recommend it.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.
