Beautiful Lakefront Setting!

We spent Mother's Day weekend (Fri afternoon, Sat, Sun) (3 of us) at Windy Pointe and enjoyed every minute. The house is clean and very comfortable. Lakefront is picturesque from both inside the house and out, where we spent a lot of time on the dock swimming and lounging. When not on the dock we were on the outside deck reading. The firepit was one of our favorite amenities; we built a nice fire with the wood provided and had s'mores until it was so dark we couldn't see. There is wireless internet and while we could sign on, we could never get the browser to load up...oh well...it was destiny, we spent more time talking and playing games that we brought with us. Overall, our experience was excellent. Thanks to Heather!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway.

Heather graciously allowed us to have my daughters small wedding at the house. The ceremony was performed on the upper dock deck overlooking the lake and it was absolutely beautiful. The pictures are stunning. The house was just right for the reception and their over night stay. It was clean and well maintained. They enjoyed the sunset, hot tub and fire pit. Heather was great to work with, answering questions and taking measurements for me for the deck decorations to the size of tablecloths we needed. They even offered to remove the sail boat and chairs off the dock to be out of the way. Heather couldn't have been more accommodating. I now want to come back to this beautiful home for a weekend stay for just me and my husband to relax (all alone). Thank you HeatherRecommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you Sherry-I'm so happy to help customize for each stay and it's rewarding when the weekends turn out to be memorable! I hope you get to come back soon!

We had a great 3 days at this cabin. The house is nicely decorated, well-maintained and situated on a quiet and beautiful part of High Rock Lake. We loved the hot tub and fire pit. We caught 11 large catfish from the private dock on the first day and nothing much after that. We also enjoyed using the canoe and kayak. The only things that could improve the experience would have been a gas grill and a few extras in the kitchen (more spatulas, strainer, large cutting board, and a large saute pan). The owner was a joy to work with and very accomodating. We hope to visit again when the weather is warmer. Thanks Heather!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for your suggestions! I'll add some more spatulas, but found the strainer in the cupboard under the coffee maker (when I cleaned) and we have several large pans in the cabinet under the island....

We rented the lake house for a long weekend. The house sits on a very nice peace of land on High Rock Lake. There were enough beds that we didn't have to share and with the hot tub, fire pit, kayak and canoe there were plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained. One of the previous comments mention spiders. There are lots of spider, but primarily grand daddy long legs. Might help to give the outside and the screened in porches a good pressure washing. But there is spider spray in the closet next to the door and it honestly did not affect my enjoyment of the weekend. Our dogs had a blast and thoroughly enjoyed exploring the woods and lake shore.. There was a random black dog that stopped by for a visit a couple of days, but he was nice and only stayed for a few minutes. Ultimately we had a great time and enjoyed our visit. We would definitely recommend to others.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My husband and I spent a week here in August with our 2 adult daughters and their significant others and our dogs. We had a blast! It was such a great setting - we swam and fished right off the dock (not at the same time, of course) and our 11month old feist-mix dog got her first dose of lake fun. Needless to say we couldn't keep her out of the water. We rented a pontoon boat one day at the nearby marina and jet skis another day and thoroughly enjoyed the lake. We sat on the dock and read books, enjoyed our morning coffee, watched the sunsets with a glass of wine and enjoyed our family time together. The house was perfectly sized for our group and The setting was very peaceful and definitely "in the woods". The views from inside were really good and from the dock, they were awesome. We enoyed watching 2 resident blue herons fish nearby every day and the occasional boaters pass by. We were very sad when it came time to leave and would definitely return for another lake vacation. The owners were great to work with and it was so wonderful not having to haul linens and make beds when arriving and to know there would be staples available. It's little things like this that make the difference on a vacation. Thanks so much to the Owners for sharing their wonderful lake home.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

The home is beautiful and peaceful, and the view of the lake is stunning. The kitchen had everything we needed and the living area was comfortable. The owners were pretty easy to work with, too. Our only major complaint was that there were tons of spiders. The owners have no control over that, obviously, but the sheer number of spiders prevented us from enjoying the patio, dock and fire pit. Anything outdoors, basically. And a seat on the canoe was broken, so we couldn't putz around the lake. We definitely spent more time inside than we had planned. And one of the owners quickly scooted us out at check-out time - on the dot - because they had another batch of guests coming. We understood they wanted to prepare for their next renters, but we felt like our time as welcomed guests had expired. Overall, a decent trip.Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Yes, the spiders like the woods! We are working on finding an environmentally friendly way of discouraging them from liking the house so much, as this one of the factors that makes the house so peaceful-the natural environment! I'm sorry you couldn't spend time outside-we stayed there a few weekends ago, enjoyed the dock for awesome sunsets, I read my book on the deck off the kitchen and we sat around the campfire at night. As for the canoe, we're so busy cleaning in between renters, I didn't know about that. I wish someone would have said something, as I will now get it fixed. Thank you for mentioning it in the review. I'm also sorry you felt rushed out the door 'after' check out time-when we have back to back renters we need that time to prepare for the next guest.

The house had everything. The fire pit and Jacuzzi are perfectly located down by the lake. The house has a large screened porch and a huge open room off the master (2nd floor). My son and dog loved the place. I am looking for a return trip. I have stayed on Lake Norman, which I found to big and to busy. High Rock lake was very tranquil. Definitely planning a return trip.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

The house is wonderful, just the right size. I really liked the privacy the surrounding woods provided for evenings by the outdoor fire pit. The lake is hugh and very pretty, the fishing isn't bad either. We would definately recommend this property for a nice get away and will likely stay again ourselves. Park away from the trees if you can, storms can knock limbs out of the trees easily. Launching for boat is very accessible, just about 4 miles at the Tamarac Marina and the restaurant across the street Jimmy's on the water has pretty darn good seafood, Tamrac also has a small store for items you may have forgotten to bring. We had a very nice stay and hope to go back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

About the owner: Gray Stout and Heather St. Aubin-Stout, owners and architects, live in Salisbury and enjoy boating and sailing on High Rock Lake with their family and friends.
Why the Owner Chose High Rock Lake:
We chose to build our lakefront vacation retreat at Mohican Shores at High Rock Lake because of the beauty and privacy of the site, the mountainous setting, the long range views of the lake and the deep, clean water. We also like that it is only 17 miles to Salisbury and 50 miles to Charlotte and Winston-Salem.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Incredible sunsets, swimming, boating, sailing, canoeing and kayaking. Mountain hikes. Building campfires and cooking out after a day on the water. Fun and fellowship with family and friends.
