Welcome to 'The Inn at Long Last' - beautifully decorated with antiques, and original works of local art. Very private, spacious 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom mountain cabin with separate 600 sq. ft. basement apartment plus separate kid's loft accessed via circular rod iron staircase; loaded with country charm; fireplace; sky lights; mountain view.
Sleeps 10 - two full beds and two full futons ( 1 bed and 1 futon in basement apartment) + double futon in kid's loft; all linens provided. Air mattresses are available for extra bedding. The two main floor bedrooms are divided by an accordion door so small children are nearby but you still have your privacy, or you can open the doors to create one large bedroom (see pictures). The breakfast room has a 'pass-through' window from the kitchen, and is the perfect spot to enjoy your coffee and watch the early morning deer in the woods.
The basement apartment is counted as one of the 3 bedrooms, but has it's own kitchenette, alcove for futon, DVD/VCR, bathroom, washer/dryer and it's own outdoor entry. Across from the double bed is an electric fireplace. There is a good selection of movies and games for both children and adults.
A loft with spiral rod iron staircase is the perfect 'hide-away' for kids with toys, TV and large selection of classic kids' movies, games, and double futon mattress. Kid's LOVE IT, including the 'adult kids'! There is also a 'kid's kloset' on the main level for younger kids with a play kitchen and lots of toys (see picture).

I rented the Inn at Long Last for an extended weekend with several close friends. All of us adored the cottage because of its comfortable and cozy environment. Although we were not able to meet the owner, our interactions were delightfully pleasant and ensured our needs were met. The cottage, being very casually and comfortably furnished, has a wonderful fireplace that we enjoyed very much. Sitting around the living room each morning sipping coffee and watching the sunlight gradually stretch across the valley below as the sun rose above the mountain was soothing and a perfect way to start the day. The nice big windows bring the wooded setting inside and it was an extra delight to see three pileated woodpeckers cavorting up in the trees just outside. We made a trip into Harpers Ferry for lunch and to enjoy their Christmas celebration. Spending the long weekend at the Inn at Long Last was top notch.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, age 55+, families with young children.

Secluded location, but relatively easy to get to. Excellent communication and response from owner, even though she was out of town. Only has antenna TV. WiFi access was at owners studio one street over. Interesting electrical and lighting. No dishwasher. Dated kitchen, although it has a kitchenette downstairs with a full stove. No outdoor trash receptacle. Our dog loved the long walks on the lonely mountain road. Beautifully decorated with a fireplace, but some furniture is tired. Close to many outdoor activities and restaurants. Overall a nice stay. Perfect for two couples with 2-3 children and a pet, but with little interest in cooking.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, adventure seekers, families with young children.

We have stayed at one of Bobby's other cottages, Moonridge which we enjoyed very much. On another occasion we wanted to stay in the area but there were more of us than Moonridge would accommodate so we decided to stay at The Inn At Long Last. We were not disappointed. We were greeted with the samce warmth and welcome that Bobby does so well. There was plenty of room and the kids had a great time. Lots for them to do and us too. Some good local restaurants. The cabin is cozy and fun and all around perfect for our group.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with young children.

We just spent a great weekend in this cabin. Great access to the woods, river, and Harpers Ferry. We had a crew of kids and the cabin comes stocked with toys and books oh and a few kids movies so that adults can enjoy a cocktail on the beautiful deck. Bobby is quick to respond and answer questions. She was also very reasonable when our numbers changed and refunded our over pay. I would highly recommend this cabin.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.

My family (90 year old Mom, Husband, small dog and a couple of friends enjoyed a great weekend retreat in the mountains at the Inn at Long Last. The cabin/lodge is large, spacious, cozy and very inviting. We loved the large porch that extended over the mountain and provided a great viewing and relaxing area for barbecue, breakfast and our favorite, happy hours at the end of the day. There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out and be comfy. We saw deer when walking my dog down the beautiful trail/road in front of the house and enjoyed the fresh mountain scenery and atmosphere. It was super quiet and quaint. The location was perfect. 15-20 minutes to Harpers Ferry, Charleston other quaint towns and the Appalachian Trail and hiking and outdoor activities. I would highly recommend The Inn at Long Last for families and adults.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, people with disabilities, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with young children.

We had a wonderful time at the Inn at Long Last--it felt like we were "home" in the mountains. Very well furnished, with lots of great toys for little ones! If we traveled to West Virginia again we would definitely stay here. Bobbi is an amazing hostess and it was a pleasure getting to chat with her. The cottage is only 15 minutes from both downtown Harpers Ferry and Charlestown.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We had a wonderful experience renting Bobby's cabin. The house is warm cozy and very inviting. It is decorated beautifuly. Bobby has some of her beautiful paintings hanging for her guest to enjoy. I would highly recommend this rental to all ages. We didn't have small children but someone took the time to stock the cabinet with toys. There were books to read, candles to light, wood for the fireplace. You name Bobby had it there for her guest. She was kind enough to come out and greet us as we arrived ,she baked a loaf of fresh bread. Thanks for taking such great care of your guest! We were so happy when we entered this cozy little cabin, with candlelight and music awaiting us. It was absolutely perfect. Our boys, ages 4 and 5, were talking about it for days after we left. The home was so accomodating for both children and adults. We just loved it ! Bobby was extremely helpful and friendly, she really went out of her way to make the weekend possible for us and made it completely worthwhile. I would recommend this cabin to anyone who wants to have a relaxing and fun weekend in Harper's Ferry !Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway.

This "cabin" is more like a loving family's cozy home in WV. It's tranquil, warm, and inviting. My friends and I were initially planning to camp. But we're soft and old now, so after a day of whitewater kayaking, there is nothing better than coming back to a warm home, a real shower, and a kitchen to make dinner in before lounging on a leather sofa to comiserate about sore muscles and being out of shape. Like I said, we're soft and old. Moreover, it's hard to take a weekend vacation (from DC) without burning up too much time planning, packing, and being annoyed at all the administrative hassles of a vacation. Not so here. Everything is furnished and turnkey. It's evident that this house is someone's joy. Thanks for sharing. We will be back soon!Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2003
About the owner: Year Purchased: 2003 Hi; Bobby here! I'm a Northern Virginia transplant to Wild and Wonderful West Virginia! Ten years ago we purchased a weekend cabin near Harpers Ferry in the mountains (Shannondale) with a 50 mile view of the Shenandoah Valley below. We fell in love with this beautiful area and wonderful local people, and it didn't take long to switch from weekenders to permanent residents! In 2003 we acquired a terribly abused cabin and spent the next several months totally renovating it - new roof, new heating, new plumbing, new windows, skylights - new everything! Shangri-la-de-da!! Thus, 'The Inn at Long Last' was created! As an artist, I love taking a total mess and making something beautiful out of it! Thus, 'The Inn at Long Last' was created! All of our friends and family who stayed at 'The Inn at Long Last' have absolutely LOVED IT, so we decided to share our delightful little hide-away with all of you! Come, relax, and enjoy! Let me pamper you a bit!
Why the Owner Chose Harpers Ferry:
We love the natural beauty of this area, the wildlife, the cultural heritage, the history, the quaint little towns, plus we're only an hour from Fairfax, Va., so even though we feel really remote, there is easy access to the big city. It's really the best of all worlds!
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
I think you will enjoy - as I do - making the half hour trek up to the Appalachian Trail, whether just for an hour or two or an all day hike into historic Harpers Ferry. I highly recommend the 'Maryland Heights' hike to the top of the mountain where you will have an incredible view of the town of Harpers Ferry and the two rivers - Shenandoah and Potomac - merging. This is a half day round trip hike atop the mountain that the Amtrak train tunnels through, on its way to DC and beyond. (see my webshots site given in the 'other amenities' section of this listing for photos from the top!)
For the less hearty, a short hike to 'Jefferson Rock' right in the midst of historic Harpers Ferry will allow you to share the view that Thomas Jefferson said was 'worth a trip across the ocean' to see! Or ~ spend a day at the Charles Town races and slots and be sure to visit the incredible 'Terrace Restaurant' where you will have the perfect terraced view of the horse races, including a monitor at your table for closer observation and a buffet that you will long remember!
