I have been a big VRBO renter for years. It is always a thrill to stay at a home that EXCEEDS my expectations and whose pictures truly capture the spaciousness and style of the home. This beach home is well laid-out, spacious, elegant, family-friendly, truly beach-front, well-located, nicely but functionally furnished and decorated, well-stocked with the necessities of life, and managed by a very friendly owner. We saw dolphins from the patio everyday, we enjoyed beautiful sunsets, spectacular weather (in the 80s with no fog all week), and enjoyed cooking in the beautiful kitchen each day. Everything you need is here, don't overpack! We enjoyed Natural Bridges State Beach, the Seymour Marine Center at UCSC (just right for our young kids, less overwhelming that Monterey Bay Aquarium), ate fantastic BBQ twice at Aptos Street BBQ, and even organized a kayak tour or the kids while we were there. Of course, we also went to Santa Cruz and had to visit the Mystery Spot. I appreciated the beds for 8, no fold outs or air mattresses here! The property was very clean and well-maintained. The 3 full baths were very helpful for a large family, and I appreciated having a bathtub for the toddler. All in all, a great VRBO experience and we are already planning a return trip next September!

Also, that we say "truly beachfront," we really mean it! No doubt that is why we have so many families return year after year. We believe that a vacation should begin when you walk in the door, and not require that you spend half a day at Costco shopping for everyday items that should be provided by the owner! We look forward to your return in 2014.
We recently had a family get together and stayed at the Beach House. I researched many and what we wanted was an interactive kitchen, easy access to the beach and 4 bedrooms, this looked like the place for us. We have 2 grandsons, 18 mos and 7 mos, and they haven't been to the ocean. The location on the beach worked really well, to go back and forth, to the house for naps and snacks. We also lived in the area for 30 years and have since moved away. We wanted to have a dinner party of old friends who still live in the county. One night we had 11 for a pot luck dinner, there was plenty of room in the kitchen for preparations, plus room for everyone to sit down for dinner. The open floor space leaves room for comfort to spare. We loved it and plan to come back next year or maybe sooner! The owner was so easy to work with and helpful with my questions.Thank you so much for letting us spend time in your wonderful house!

About the owner: This has been our extended family's beach house for over 40 years. We just completed an extensive remodel earlier this year. Until now, it has never been rented. We have decided to let others enjoy the house during the summer months while we reserve it for family use during the rest of the year. We are full time residents of Santa Cruz county. We have seen our children and recently our grandchildren enjoy our home in Rio Del Mar over these many years. Jim is an investor and Trish is a retired teacher who serves on several non-profit boards. We have experience in managing other rental properties and also own a vacation rental in Lake Tahoe. Being local owners, we can promptly address any of the concerns of our renters and insure that your stay is as pleasant as possible.

Our home is located on what is known as the "island" in Rio Del Mar. It is a highly desirable location for second homes for residents of Silicon Valley and the SF Bay Area because the "island" homes are located right on the beach.
