We stayed at the Honey House in February and really loved our stay. The house is beautiful and the bathroom and tiling were awesome. It was such a treat to meet such kind hosts and have a big basket of fruit waiting in the kitchen. The location was a great place to explore from and it was nice to enjoy the peace and beauty of the area. It was neat to see the brand new ducklings too! Thanks Val for mailing us our camera battery back too! Hugely appreciated.

My wife and I decided to do our Honeymoon on the Big Island. We stayed in a few locations over the nine nights.. and we were very lucky to be able to spend a few nights at the Honeyhouse. Val and Dave were great hosts. Very welcoming. The honeyhouse was very cute, fun and comfortable. The shower was a highlight as it opened into the jungle.. so much fun. There is also an outdoor shower on the property to be enjoyed. This property is located a few minute walk from Kehena beach, which is a magical place to spend some time. It's clothing optional which is great.. and one of the days we went down there was a group of dolphins doing flips and having fun right off shore. A great place to go for dinner, breakfast or a massage is at the Kalani yoga retreat a short 3 min drive away. The highlight of our visit was hiking in to see the lava flow into the ocean. It's only a few minute drive from Val's place to where you start the hike. Val was very nice in offering to take us on a morning hike. Up at 4:00 am, flashlights, hiking poles and cameras in hand. We hiked over lava fields for 60 minutes in the pitch black to get to lava. What an amazing adventure.. and for sure one of the coolest things we have ever done. Thanks Val!!

What a spectacular week we spent on the Big Island and were honored to call The Honey House "home"! Starting each morning with a fresh coconut and bringing a different type of fruit or vegetable by during the day, our host Dave made us feel more than welcome sharing his island wisdom and Aloha as well as the fruits of his wonderful garden! We spent our time on the Big Island exploring destinations that were more than likely off the beaten path and not over crowded with tourists, Dave was especially helpful in suggesting sights and routes that helped us to feel more like locals which made our vacation truly special and memorable. The Honey House feels very much a natural part of its surroundings, with big windows in the main living space, long and open floor-plan and shower (with optional privacy curtain) that opens right up to the outdoors, it was easy to feel as though you were simply a part of the beautiful surrounding nature. The kitchen is very spacious and open with lots of counter space for everything from making a beautiful salad from the garden to mixing cocktails in the blender. During our stay Dave had an abundance of ripe (delicious) bananas on the property and were even able to bake banana bread. As our vacation fell during the rainest of months, we even opted to stay indoors reading and relaxing a few nights, we were able to utilize the included wi-fi for posting pictures or staying in touch with the "real world" while we were at play. The long kitchen also had plenty of room to store our gear on our way in and out - packing coolers, unpacking snorkel equipment all were done effortlessly and without taking room away from counter space for food preparation and the oh-so-important coffee maker! The main living area in this studio/loft style house was super spacious. My partner and I stayed with another couple who are close friends and we had plenty of room for the four of us with ease. We stayed on the spare futon couch/bed which was very comfortable and the other couple had the large King sized bed. The area also had a very nice, large wooden table with 4 chairs which was nice both for relaxing, eating meals together and computing which we did more of on vacation than I'd like to admit but the included wi-fi made connecting a breeze. The spacious layout of the honey house is completely ideal for a family or close friends, the furniture was of very good quality and exceptionally comfortable. We never felt "on top of" each other.

Thoughts of visiting Kehena Honey House: Hundreds of whistling frogs sound like birds, adorable and friendly black and white kitty, lots of curious quacking ducks feasting on fresh coconuts. Hosts Val and David feed the ducks and share their garden harvest with guests: wonderful, tasty coconuts, juicy, ripe oranges, huge avocados, and tropical flowers. Honey when in season. Dense, tropical, rugged lava rock, wild terrain filled with many wonderful sights and sounds. Two walking blocks to the ocean. Couple miles to view nightly, flowing Mt. Kilauea. Short drive to quaint Pahoa town, longer drive to big city Hilo and airport. Beach days bring adventure for seeking elusive wild sea turtles. Handsome Kalani Resort nearby offers yoga classes, retreats, and colorful people. Gracious and friendly hosts, Val and Dave, always helpful and accommodating.

This is a clean and attractive cottage which has ample kitchen and shower facilities. The cottage is only minutes away from Hawaii's south-east coast with beautiful beaches, hot springs, and scenery. If you decide to stay here, you can look forward in hearing the incredible chorus of frogs at night and the moring wakeup of all the birds. I would stay here again anytime!
