Located near the end of a dead-end street, this waterfront property is ideal for families with children. The large deck offers a beautiful view of Col. Willie Cove, a tributary located on Little Narragansett Bay, and a favorite mooring area for many sailboaters. The deck has child netting to prevent falls, and a retractable awning for hot sunny days.

Located minutes from most of the area's world class beaches and attractions (it's a 2-mile drive to the Watch Hill Carousel), there's always plenty to do, rain or shine. The recently rebuilt dock at the end of the yard accommodates boats up to 22 feet with a draft of up to 3.5 feet. There is a launching ramp down the street that is available to guests during the rental period. This is also a perfect area for kayakers. There are several kayak rental places in the area, who rent by the day and week.

On shore, the area's flat and mildly hilly terrain is great for scenic bike rides, and the nearby conservation area with a wide variety of bird species, and the old village of Avondale, make for delightful strolls.

Well-mannered dogs and cats are welcome with a slight additional deposit.

The location was listed correctly. I thought the amount of space was great. I didn't like the smell in the bottom floor when I walked in. The dehumidifier had to be emptied several times a day. The wooden fan was warped due to the amount of moisture in the bottom floor. Some of the dishes were not clean, but I suspect you depend upon the last person to wash them well. The first set of bedding was clean. The upstairs towels were a bit wore but clean. The fans were not enough to cool the bedrooms or the living room on the hot days I stayed. The fans did not seem to work well and need to be cleaned. I definitely needed an air conditioner in the Master bedroom to sleep. On hot nights I didn't sleep well. Now for some positives: Due to the size, I was able to invite relatives over for dinner without feeling crowed. The back yard was large enough for my 2 dogs. They loved it. I truly enjoyed the deck and the large yard. One could walk to East Beach as long as you were in decent shape. A bicycle or moped would make it better. if I stayed again I would bring my fans or a portable air conditioner, and a bike. I would recommend this to friends with dogs, but tell them to make the adjustments I suggested.

Owner response: Thanks for a nice review. A planned central air installation this fall should remedy the dehumidifier issue and the need for a fan...it HAS been really muggy this season! We look forward to welcoming you back in the future!

We chose this listing mainly because of the location to visit nearby friends who own a boat. We also have a Lab, who loved practicing her dock diving. The home is in a neighborhood called Avondale and it is a beautiful and quiet area, safe and perfect for walks or biking, meeting friendly neighbors along the way. Driving to nearby restaurants, farmers markets or other shops felt just like home. The owner has provided a great "guide' book with suggestions and driving directions and most appreciated menus from various local restaurants - perfect for making our minds up about where we should we go! Watch Hill was only a 5 minute drive. The beach, virtually empty, allowed our leashed dog (after Labor Day) to spend many happy outings in the surf while we strolled looking for shells on the long walks down Napatree. The home was wonderfully spacious. Lots of both indoor and outdoor living space. All electronic amenities in the listing were working properly and the only adjustment we had to make was to unplug the house phone when we weren't using it because of the many telemarketing calls. Despite this, I was very pleased the phone was available. Cell phone service was just a little spotty, but our stay was right after Hurricane Irene. Wi-fi service was very nice to have. The owner was always easy to contact, very gracious and accommodating. I enjoyed his enthusiasm and our chats! The large kitchen and dining room was put to good use a number of times for family and friends gathering, opting for "our" house, just because of the space! The well stocked kitchen and outdoor grill produced some delicious home cooking, which definitely says home. We would have liked a little more oven space on those occasions, but just like home, you become creative for solutions! It was perfect for everyday. My favorite part of the house was the deck. With the calming view of Col. Willie Cove, of boats moored and birds in the large yard and landing on the water, I felt relaxed, which, when you are away from home, you don't always feel. This had to be the best vacation I've ever had and we will be returning to our home away from home!

We were so happy to find this little slice of heaven on the water in Rhode Island. We rented a kayak for a week but sadly didn't utilize it enough. It is the perfect place to kayak! Great privacy on the property and within the house as there are really two separate living spaces upstairs and down. The neighborhood is lovely too so it makes walking a treat. An easy drive to Ninigret Park and beach which is a favorite spot of ours. Also close to Mystic Village and Aquarium if sight seeing is on your agenda. I would love to return again as it was enchanting!

Owner response: Thanks for the very kind words! We really enjoy hearing that guests use the dock and cove. It's a really great spot for kayaking and canoeing, as well as conventional power and sailboating. Hope to see you again, and next time, to hear about how your arms still ache from all the exploring you did with the kayak:)

We're getting ready to book a vacation at this house again this summer - we had such a great time here last year. The house is on a quiet cove that's filled with sailboats. It's a couple of miles to the Watch Hill Carousel and Watch Hill Beach, but we found that hanging out on the deck with its awning and beautiful view more than sufficed many days. We had plenty of sea breezes to keep the house reasonably cool. Not fancy, just a great place to get away for a beach vacation.

Owner response: I guess the best compliment we can get is a repeat guest such as you:) We're always thrilled to welcome back guests from previous years, and you're no exception. Given that Sedona isn't in a shabby area, we're flattered that you've chosen Watch Hill for 2 vacations in a row! Thanks for the compliments -- while we're not wild about thorns, we do love roses:)

We rented the house for a week in August of 2010 and were very pleased with both, its location (how can one go wrong with waterfront!) and the quiet neighborhood. We're a family of 2 adults and 2 kids, and we found the prioperty to be well equipped for our purposes. The backyard is nearly 3/4 of an acre, plenty of room for the kids and our volleyball set. We rented kayaks and used the dock (and the cove and the river) a lot. It is really a pretty area. Next time we vacation in the area, we'll certainly rent there again!

We stayed at the house this past July (2010) with our son, my sister in law and her husband and their 3-year old, and, of course, our dog. We had a terrific time. The house was clean, well furnished, well equipped, and well located. We did discover that the best beach is part of the Watch Hill East Beach, and can be reached in a quick 1-mile bike ride. My husband and brother in law also kayaked across the bay to Napatree, which was about 20 minutes' away by Kayak. They said it was great. We didn't end up dining out a lot, as the kitchen was more than adequate, and there was a great seafood market in town. The house itself was an ideal summer place, in a quiet area, and right on the water, as advertised! It really is a beautiful spot, close to everything, and much less than many of the other properties we looked at. The owners left a great 'manual' of where things were in the house, maps of the area, some local tips, and a terrific restaurant listing, from the looks of what we read. I'd recommend this place for families with kids, and dogs, and also for reunions of sorts. The owners were very responsive when we had questions, and really did their best to ensure that we'd have a great time!

I bring along my Boston Whaler every year (along with my wife and kids) and we motor across the bay to Napatree Beach, where I drop them off and head out fishing in Fishers Island sound. If you're a fisherman, and love Bluefish, there's no better spot! The house is always immaculate and well-equipped. It's very close to all the area attractions from beaches, aquarium and casino to restaurants, amusements and cinema. We're booking our second stay there this summer! Highly recommended.

Owner response: LOL! From what I recall, the wife and kids are lucky they get picked up at Napatree:) It's always a joy to see someone actually USE the dock for boating! And Willy made up for all the other renters who unfortunately didn't have boats. Something Willy points out that makes this area so special (besides fishing): Napatree Beach. I've laid out on that beach in mid summer and had nearly 1/4 mile to myself. It's too far to walk to get to it, and most folks with boats hang out on the boats near their coolers (forbidden ashore, as Napatree is a conservation area). If you have kids, the Bay side of the peninsula is a fun and safe area for kids to go for a swim. And there's a cove at the end of the point where, with a little (or sometimes great) perseverence, one can get enough clams for a pleasant evening's treat. A boat is really necessary, though, but it's a mere 10 minute ride across the bay to some of the best beaching one can imagine around here...

We've stayed for a week in this house each summer since 2006 with our 3 children and my mother-in-law. If you love the area, need some peace and quiet, and can dispense with elegance, than this is a great place! It has three bedrooms, including a seperate lower level bedroom (there are two floors, including a finished walk-out basement) with its own bathroom and entrance out to the back yard. Outside the bedroom is a small table and two chairs where we enjoyed a quiet cup of coffee in the morning before the kids got up. There's also a family room that's quite cool on hot summer days, and more than compensates for the house's lack of air conditioning (not really needed). The upstairs has two bedrooms, including a king bed in one, and a couple of twins in the other. It has a full bath (downstairs is shower-only), a living room, dining area (we ate mostly on the deck) and a nice kitchen, if you can live without stainless steel and granite:) The house is roomy, and the backyard is large and ends at the cove. There is a dock that the kids swim off of, although adult supervision is necessary, as there is a bit of boating traffic in the cove with sailboats coming and going. It's also a great spot to sit and watch incredible sunsets! Although the grill is charcoal instead of gas, which is a bit dirtier and more work, the food tastes great off charcoal! I'd almost forgotten the flavor! We understand that the owner has moved the older TV from the livingroom downstairs, along with the futon, which has been replaced by a couch. We never had a problem with the old arrangements, but will take the extra area... My husband loves to fish, and in the evening goes surf casting at a spot in Watch Hill. We understand that lot owners no longer offer parking passes, so we're going to have to get creative about the evening parking, but I can always drop him off and pick him up...it's only a mile or so from the house to Watch Hill. This is our fourth vacation here. This one appeals to us because it's not a year-round residence, which makes it more of a real vacation for us... The area, by the way, is a terrific corner of the world. While many people come to Watch Hill for the village shops and to be among the wealthy, mother nature offers many more attractions than those made by man, and this house has always offered us an economical and excellent spot from which to launch our 'adventures'. Hope this helps!

Owner response: Thanks for the kind words. I'm a stickler for charcoal-fired barbecue, so our tenants don't get the convenience of gas, although if enough comment on it, perhaps I'll break down and add a small gas grille.... We're heavily dependent on feedback from our renters, and do our best to respond to suggestions. While the result won't be an elegant Watch Hill home, we will do everything we can to continue to make the house a comfortable seaside setting for families and couples alike!

We stayed here in July of 2008 and really enjoyed ourselves. We're from Indiana, and it was a real treat to be on salt water! The house was as advertised, though the hammock was a pleasant surprise for the kids, and there was plenty of space in the backyard for them to run around The dock is a great spot to enjoy a drink and some nice ocean breezes, which didn't always hit the deck. Even so, the retractable awning was a Godsend on a couple of very hot days! If you're there, you have to try Maria's Seafood Restaurant in Misquamicut. Terrific food, great prices. When we're in the area for our next vacation, there's no doubt that we'll be hoping to book this house!

Owner response: Andrea, your headline warms my heart! We strive to be a great place by the water for families. Last year, the house was the scene of three small family reunions. We received lovely notes from each family, and now we're hearing from you! We hope to see you in the house again in the near future! By the way,. we take all our guests comments, good and bad, seriously, and plan many of the improvements and changes to the property on what people tell us they'd like. The power awning on the deck is one example. You'll notice additional changes, should we have the pleasure of your rental again in the future. - Jim
