What a beautiful villa! I highly recommend Stowaway and send a big thank you to Georgia, David, & Marcia for a wonderful stay! I arrived in St. John with three bags – 2 filled with oil painting supplies for a painting-work trip. Georgia met me at the ferry with a warm smile, and in the days following was quick to respond to any questions. She’s a wonderful hostess & very knowledgeable about the islands. Stowaway Villa is just as you see pictured here - clean & colorful, with easy indoor and outdoor spaces. Located just above Cruz Bay, the villa is close to town and grocery stores but I recommend a jeep. The roads are steep and it’s a 10 min. drive into Cruz Bay, or 20 min. to the North Shore beaches. I really enjoyed cooking-in several nights. The kitchen is well equipped except for spices – remember to bring/buy your own. The first floor balcony has two dining areas (and a grill) with TRULY AMAZING views. On the second floor, both bedrooms are private and each has sliding-glass doors opening onto the balcony. I personally loved opening the doors at night and feeling the warm island breezes. Designated parking at the Villa makes coming and going EASY. This meant a lot to me as I was coming and going each day to different painting locations. Some of my favorite activities were early morning swims at Maho Bay & Trunk Bay beaches; spending time in downtown Cruz Bay, and the best-burger-ever at Miss Lucy’s near Coral Bay. At Stowaway, the washer and dryer are conveniently located just off the kitchen. The top balcony, lounge chairs, beach towels & coolers make for a great afternoon in the sun. In addition, the pool, located just below the villa is large, clean, safe & easy to get to: just a short path from the villa.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We were so excited when we arrived at the condo. It exceeded our expectations. It was roomy with a spectacular view and the most wonderful constant breeze that made it constantly comfortable. This was our fourth visit to St John and our favorite place to stay. How nice to swing on a hammock on the deck overlooking the pool (empty most of the time but for us after the beach) and Great Cruz Bay.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We had an excellent experience staying at Stowaway March 23-30, 2013. I would describe Stowaway as a very comfortable, affordable property (compared to other properties in St. John) with a GREAT view. It is not luxurious but it was clean, comfortable and it had everything we needed. We really appreciate the extras including: beach chairs, cooler, beach bags, tin foil, garbage bags, shampoo, soap, laundry soap, blow dryer, ice packs, and even the vacuum cleaner! It was nice to be able to remove some of sand from the rental jeep. We very much appreciate that Theresa met us after we got off the ferry and directed us to Stowaway. Even though we had been given good directions, I'm not sure we would have found it on our own. I had forgotten how steep and windy the roads are. I highly recommend renting a jeep. Although Stowaway is close to town, I personally would not have wanted to walk down or up the hills! We shopped at the Starfish Market everyday and found everything we needed. We went to a beach and/or snorkeling every day. Our favorite places include: Waterlemon Bay (stay away though if the current is too strong), Hawksnest, and Salt Pond Bay area. We also went on a day sail with Captain Bob and Matey and had a wonderful day. Captain Bob is a very nice and interesting man and his rates are also very reasonable. Another highlight was listening to Theresa sing and play guitar. She even gave us one of her CD's and it was fun to meet and talk with her. We also enjoyed a steel drum player we saw at a bar right near the harbor and ferry dock. Overall, we had a wonderful trip. I have many memories of the VI's as I lived there back in the mid 80's. Although there are many changes, (not necessarily for the better), the islands will always hold a special place in my heart! It was great to be back! I think the listing and reviews for Stowaway accurately reflect the property. A big thank you to Marcia, Georgia, and Theresa. You all were all extremely helpful and very prompt in answering all of my questions. I would certainly recommend Stowaway as a great place to stay! Sincerely, Shelley TrogstadRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We stayed for one week and had the experiences of a lifetime. Stowaway had plenty of room for our two couples and four small children. Everything was exactly as the pictures show and the view from the balcony is breathtaking. A vehicle is a must because you are located at the top of the island overlooking Cruz Bay. The grill worked great and saved us time and convenience with our children. Since Stowaway is high up on the hill there was always a nice breeze passing through the villa-which also helped ward off the pesky little mosquitoes you can't see. The swimming pool was also a nice way to cool off and enjoy the sites. Thanks again for a great time!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We just returned from a week’s stay at Stowaway the last week of April and plan to return next year. This was our first stay here and we found everything to be just like the pictures and descriptions. It was clean, comfortable, colorful and had everything we needed and more. The views off the decks are amazing. As some other reviews stated it’s not luxury but we weren’t looking for luxury and found that it perfectly suited our style. We were picked up on time at the ferry dock and taken to the store and given some good tips and advice about the island which we very much appreciated. We had some problems connecting to the internet but Gloria got back to us immediately after we called and helped us get it figured out – after that no problems. Some of you may wonder why we had to have the internet but it’s handy to have for looking up maps, restaurants, things to do, etc. We loved having the outdoor gas grill and used it often, especially to cook the fresh fish we bought at the Fish Market. We did not rent a car and found it an easy walk to town but always took a taxi back because of the hills. We found it easy to get around, hike to some of the beaches, take the public bus for $1.00, or take a taxi to the beaches, so I would recommend to people that people could go either way as far as renting a car. We rented a dinghy for a day and the two of us had a great time hopping from beach to beach – we would highly recommend doing this. Another day we took an all day trip on the Bad Kitty catamaran to Tortuga, Jost Van Dyke, the Baths, Cooper Island for lunch (fantastic!), Norman Island for snorkeling and to the Soggy Dollar Bar – had a wonderful time with the other people on the boat and the crew who were so much fun and made it such a great day. We'll be back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Stowaway in Cruz Bay was more than what we expected. We stayed for 7 days and felt right at home since day 1. The owners are super sweet and were quick to reply if we needed them. We were picked up by Theresa off the port of st john and she drove us to get our rental jeep , and followed her back to Stowaway. The unit was not cleaned when we arrived, but we honestly did not notice it until we got to the bedroom upstairs. We were so mesmerized by the view from our deck that we didnt even notice! Theresa phone the owners right away, while we get settled and run to the grocery store. We were gone for maybe less than an hour, and the cleaning service had already started cleaning the house! The owner called and left a message the same night and she had left us a wonderful surprise and a very sweet apology. The ammenities were fully functional. We esp loved the washer and drier! we returned with clean clothes! We even made use of the vacuum to clean our jeep rental (since there is a fee if you return it with sand- hard to not have btw) The unit is located near Star Fish Market (liqour store, movie rental, pharmacy, grocery store all in one plaza). The owner is also fully stocked with bar of soaps, laundry/dish detergent, shampoo & conditioner, and full functioning kitchen (with cooking supplies). There were beach chairs and umbrellas, cooler and lots of towels (beach bags too!). We especially enjoyed our daily breakfast on our deck facing the great cruz bay. We even used the grill on the deck on our first night! Stowaway had everything you would need in a house-- the other ammenities we used the most was the Ipod dock and (the drawer where the ipod dock sits on has game boards, sewing kit, mp3 car adapter etc). the owner sends you a book that basically tells you about st john. I honestly glanced through it while in boston, but it became our bestfriend (along with the map) while in St. John. We were able to plan our day accordingly- deciding which beach to go to (which was prob the hardest part of our trip!) . We are already planning our return trip, and hopefully stay in Stowaway again!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We had a great week at Stowaway! The view was beautiful and the pool was the perfect way to relax at the end of the day! We particularly appreciated all the items provided (washer, dryer, detergent, beach towels, beach chairs, coolers, hair dryers). The kitchen was very well stocked, and we ate in five of the seven nights we were there. Enjoyed having a grill! The location provides a great view, but driving up and down the hills to get to Stowaway was a scary experience! A Jeep is a definite necessity (we used L&L Jeep). This was our second trip to St. John - this time with the whole family. Our favorite family beaches were Maho, Hawksnest, and Trunk. Took our second sail with Sail Safaris - can't recommend them highly enough! Took about 10 minutes to get to parking in Cruz Bay for dinner.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We spent two nights in St. Thomas and then enjoyed 4 nights on St. John. The Stowaway condo is as pictured. We especially enjoyed the "treehouse" setup. The kids loved the pool in the evenings and we enjoyed time snorkeling at Hawksnest and Trunk Bay beach. Be sure to get a four wheel drive--Driving is much less stressful on St. John than on St. Thomas. We used the same rental and brought our jeep over on the ferry--it was fun both ways and much easier than we thought is would be!! We loved Salt Bay beach and Drunk bay beach--we made sculptures too!! We had a fabulous time. Special thanks to David who met us at Dolphin Market in Humpty Dumpty and showed us the way to the condo. We just returned from out second visit at Stowaway. The condo is well equiped as stated. Plenty of linen, towels, beach towels, cooler, beach chairs, soap etc. The deck is the perfect spot to have cocktails while overlooking the bay. Beatiful views! Especially, liked the very separate bedrooms on the second level. (For those who like to get up early while the others like to sleep a little later.) The condo is close to some great beaches, a short drive to town with good resturants, some fun bars and shopping for your "retail therapy"! The owner has always promptly answered any questions we had prior to our trips and is available while on the island. We were a party of four and were very confortable. It's a bargain! The four of us are hoping to return in 2013!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

About the owner: As a yacht designer married to a yacht dealer, I have sailed most of the Caribbean. St John is by far the best place to live and vacation. If it isn't first in some particular category, it is surely 2nd or 3rd. I have my home, Callaloo, mid island on St John, and I keep my boat in Coral Bay. This villa has been a permanent residence until now. This year it was completely refurbished, and I'm offering it below market to jump-start the vacation rentals. Before buying in St. John, I considered settling on St. Barths. I weighed the pros and cons of each place. St. Barths offers a bit of Paris (a place I adore), but St. John offered a lot more of everything else. Dependable, affordable phone and internet service, 22 beaches, good dining (although pricey), affordable air fares, hiking trails, and the heavy hand of the US Government which keeps St. John safe, beautiful, and accessible to all. We respect nature, wildlife, beaches, reefs, and the sea. We adore our wild donkeys!
