We all had a fantastic time at this house, which is a very comfortable and charming family home. Everything was as described on the website and all very clean and well-maintained. Upstairs there is a large den which the kids loved - this worked very well for us when we wanted to enjoy peace and quiet around the fire downstairs. The front porch was another favourite area - we spend many hours there in the morning with our coffee watching the world go by. Location is a very big advantage to staying here - the beach, and lovely shops and restaurants of Pacific Grove are a 5 minute walk away. The walk into Monterey to visit the aquarium (do not miss) is around 1/2 hour (slow pace) and follows the coast. The street the house is on is very quiet. We saw deer running down the road a number of times in the morning. The owner of this property is a pleasure to deal with - prompt replies to emails and very helpful. We arrived to a fresh bunch of flowers, bottle of wine and welcoming card - thanks very much, Mary, we'd love to come back some day. My mother-in-law described staying at your home as life-enhancing and I agree.

I had my entire sales and design team come up for the sea otter classic bike race, I needed a large home with enough sleeping areas and this home was not only large enough for all of us, it had an incredible vibe in a great neighborhood. Fantastic stay and will book again! thank you so much!

Our team of 5 couples had a wonderful and relaxing time in this spacious Victorian home. All of the necessary amenities were available. The 'family atmosphere' of the home added to our comfort. The kitchen worked well for us to share the responsibilities and the living room was warm and inviting, We loved the open fire pit on the back deck...a great place to have good chats. The location of the home is within walking distance to downtown Pacific Grove and to the ocean. For some folks, the inconsistent internet connection might be a challenge, but we chose to "unplug" for our time of rest and refreshing. I highly recommend this home.

We rented this house for our Thanksgiving wedding this past November and it was absolutely perfect! We live a few blocks away ourselves, but wanted a place for our out of town family/friends to stay and a place for everyone to meet and gather. This corner house on Willow Street is simply magnificent, everything we were looking for and more. The house is set up to entertain, with a spacious kitchen, large dining room table and plenty of serving dishes. We enjoyed our Thanksgiving here with 20 people. Everyone enjoyed being able to help cook part of the meal! We even used the charcoal grill out back. And the hot tub that night! It was easy for everyone to explore the area and see all the sights even for those without a car. Walks to Lover's Point and along the beach trail to the Aquarium were daily routines. On the day of our wedding we set up the backyard with tables and chairs and a few decorations and hosted 35 friends and family. There isn't much needed to add to this house! The first floor has a beautiful large sitting room, the stereo system plays throughout the house, and the upstairs TV room/lounge allows guests to sneak off and watch football and makes the perfect spot to gather all the kids. We used the dinning room to serve a buffet, the kitchen to serve desserts and coffee, and the back deck for dancing and s'mores by the fire. There was more than enough space inside and out for everyone. The house is an excellent place to host a large get together. By far our favorite feature of the house was the fire pit on the back porch, which became the focal point of every night we stayed in the house. It was really a blast as our reception wound down for everyone to sit around the fire and enjoy the warmth on that brisk November night. We really can’t say enough positive things about The Old Victorian Lady; it was the perfect place for our friends and family to celebrate with us. Even if we hadn’t used it as the venue for our reception it would still have been an amazing place to house the wedding party and enjoy for the week that everyone was visiting. I am looking forward to someday renting this house again! Thank you Mary (the owner) you went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed for our stay and for our reception! We honestly could not ask for anything more and if we did Mary would have found a way to make it happen. LOVE LOVE LOVE this house on Willow!

Owner response: Thank you Laura, Nothing makes me happier than to hear my guests were happy in our home. I was honored that Laura and her husband chose our home for this important occasion that they were celebrating. My family has enjoyed many happy times at our Victorian and I love sharing our home with other families. Warm Regards Mary

Selecting a vacation rental for a family reunion is not an easy task. There were 14 of us with a span of ages from 2 to 66. We arrived in four packed SUV's with 16 bikes, two surf boards, and numerous baby strollers. We descended on 226 Willow like a swarm of bees. The house could not have been better for our needs. The location was perfect, the layout of the house was great for a family with diverse needs. Mary (owner of the house) had shared with me earlier that this was in fact their family home. All five of their children were raised in this house so yes, it was and is child friendly. Some of the favorite rooms included the kitchen with a large circular table, great cooking appliances, and plenty of pantry space which also occupied the washer and dryer. The second most occupied room was the upstairs TV/play room which comes with games, two comfortable sofas, and a large TV. The two outdoor spaces, both front and back were used all of the time by all members of the family. The house comes totally equipped with linens, bedding, and a great library which doubles as a office. We all loved being in this house and for some reason I sense the house loves having families occupy it. My husband and I were the last two in the house waiting to be checked out and we looked at one another and said...well maybe we could stay here longer, just the two of us... Great property! Owner response: I agree I think our Victorian Lady loves having families stay. A lot of love and happiness has been shared in the house and the energy is very positive. Both the Crostics and Pathaks wrote lovely reviews and we appreciate them. Thank you, Mary

We stayed here for three nights, i wish we had more time at this home away from home. To start with, the host was very gracious and helpful. We were met with flowers and bottle of wine and a list of things to do and places to eat. The house is beautiful Victorian home and is very well kept. We loved the OLD feeling and yet all the modern conveniences. We were a diversified family with my sister ( 70 years old) and our young adult kids ranging from 20 to 30 years age. We instantly loved the house. First thing you notice is the library filled with wonderful books and lots of comfortable couches to snuggle up with blankets ( provided for) and books. All of us found our favorite rooms and couches. My sister loved the downstairs bedroom and the kids loved the upstairs rooms as well as the common area where they could plays games ( also provided for) and make noises. By far the best place was backyard with bird feeder , flowers and the hot tube and fire pit. We soaked in the tub, listened to guitars played by my daughter's boyfriend sitting by the fire pit and watched the milky way go by. There were plenty of towels, sheets and plenty of everything. Kitchen was well stocked and the dinning tables large enough to sit the family for formal dinner as well as casual breakfast. We loved the bright and sunny feeling of the house. Last thing is location : I can not emphasize enough how much we enjoyed the location. We walked everywhere. Took long strolls along the ocean and beautiful flower covered paths near the lover's point. We walked to the quint town of Pacific Grove ( two blocks) for breakfast , coffee and just to hang out and see the historic homes. We walked to the Aquarium as well as to Fishermen's Wharf for dinner and Whale Watching. In short, it is a wonderful place at a wonderful locations. I will recommend it to any one with large group. It does have something for all age groups. We will love to come again next year.

My extended family and I rented this home for a week late last year. Although the larger beds may have been more comfortable, the twin-sized beds were VERY uncomfortable. One bed was lopsided and I did not sleep all week. The other room at the end of the upstairs hall was very cold. Overall, the home is ok if you don't plan on spending a lot of time there. The backyard is probably the highlight with a fire pit and spa. But, I get the impression that for all the money that people spend to rent this home, none of it goes back into the home for upkeep or renovation or for new mattresses!

Owner response: Thanks to the guests from Sacramento who stayed for 4 nights in November for their review. I always have my greeters ask the guests if any improvements could be made to make the stay more comfortable. I did not know about the uncomfortable twin beds until this review. Fortunately, I have been in the house and checked out the complaint. The guest was correct and the twin beds have been replaced with new mattress sets. 4 new couches were ordered for the living room. Last year a new porch was added and new floors in the hallway and dining room were installed. A new washer, dryer , refrigerator and dishwasher have been replaced in the last 3 years. One of my returning guests requested shades for the skylights in the bedrooms. Their request was fulfilled before their next visit. I am happy to say there are 25 positive reviews on our home and I pride myself on making my guests happy.

We rented this house so family and extended family from all over globe could be together to prepare for and have a wedding. We could not have picked a more perfect rental. Right from the beginning Mary was peach to deal with. She helped us "plan" a wedding from across the country. When we arrived we could not have been happier. The house is so well laid out for intimate conversations or a party! The bedrooms were perfect for us and were very welcoming. The backyard was an excellent venue for the wedding and reception....or just relaxing. We stayed here 10 days and the only negative thing I could possibly say is that it wasn't long enough!

My family rented this house to celebrate our parents 65th anninversary. It was perfect! We had 20 people ranging in age from 12 to 85 plus two toddlers. The living room was large enough that the entire family could be in the same room while the layout of the house allowed different groups to gather and chat without competing to be heard over other conversations. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare and serve all of our meals. We were walking distance to downtown and Lovers Point. In the evenings a group of us would go for a walk and explore the sites. The backyard garden is beautiful and safe for the babies. We took full advantage of the fire pit and hot tub. The only draw back (and we knew this going in) is the front steps are very steep. They were a bit of a challenge for our folks but it certainly wouldn't discourage us from staying there. It's just something to be aware of. The owner is a lovely woman who was very easy to work with. I highly recommend this property.

The house is clearly loved - clean and maintained, but not so precious that the children couldn't sit happily on the sofa, play lego on the dining table, or spill toys on the floor - it's a very comfortable family home. This house is deceptively large, light and airy rooms, enough space for two couples and four children under the age of 7 - with a *lot* of room to spare. We liked the upstairs den with television for the children. We also liked the fact that their were two bedrooms which had two twin/single beds each (four twin/single beds in all), so that the children could sleep in their own beds. There is also two double bedrooms upstairs, and one double bedroom downstairs (which would be very convenient if you had an elderly or physically challenged person who could not manage the stairs each day). There is a fabulous lawn on the side of the house where we played soccer, and a patio at the back of the house (was a real sun trap) with fire pit and hot tub that - it was lovely to sit out there in the afternoon. Mary, the landlady, was lovely to deal with - couldn't fault her one little bit. We appreciated her promptness and consideration. She clearly cares about her visitors. My only sadness about this house was that we could not take our dog as the house does not allow pets - whilst we understand this rule (and left our border collie with friends), it would have been lovely to have her there with us.
