Santa Rosa studio description

Spending time on our farm will give you the gift of country silence that increasingly is out of reach in our noisy, fast paced over crowded world. You will hear roosters crow, donkeys bray and other typical farm sounds to delight the senses. Staying on the land provides a brief, but intimate, glimpse into the way things used to be and confirms that, somewhere in this technologically advanced world, there are simple charming and unhurried enclaves still viable. There are some of us who are still living quite well on what we cultivate from the land. In these microcosms of society you'll find counterbalance from the hectic distractions of the city to a slower quieter rhythm of country routine.

The premise of a farm stay is relatively simple: we open our farm to visitors and share with you the many facets of life off the beaten path. Seemingly a world away, yet close to San Francisco and situated in the center of the Wine country of Sonoma County.

We are a small working farm in Santa Rosa and easily accessible from all major airports in the bay area. Visitors are invited to participate in the daily chores, (this is not a requirement for your stay, simply a choice) and may rejoice in the opportunity to get in touch with nature--literally. Tasks can include the feeding of hens, and gathering of eggs, grooming the horses, barn chores such as mucking out a stall, or weeding flower and vegetable beds to name a few. If your first love is the earthly delight of soil, we have multiple gardens and orchards to tend. This is your vacation to do as you please, if Wine tasting and extraordinary meals is what you long for, Sonoma County has them in abundance.

Accommodations are simple, a lovely little cottage with a welcoming rose arbor inviting you to step into a more simple relaxed place. You can enjoy predictable comforts of a porch swing while sipping a glass of sweet tea. Sit with your morning coffee next to the well tended rose garden while hearing the buzzing bees busily gathering nectar for the hives on the farm. Relax in the delightful display of hummingbirds in our butterfly garden, all under a wide sky with long views to Taylor Mountain. A farm stay with us allows you freedom of light and space, gaining an appreciation of the value and beauty of ordinary things almost forgotten. While gliding smoothly under the willow tree your senses will delight in the animals that ramble close by. You may hear occasional quacking, honking, neighing, peeping and always the whispering of leaves beckoning you to be still.

We had a very nice time at My Little Farm Country Cottage. We had origanally planned on a trip to CCI to see a graduation. Plans changed and we used the Cottage as a weekend getaway. We did alot of sightseeing from Vineyards to The Cali Coast. Julie was a wonderful host and I really enjoyed seeing the animals every morning and evening. Chewy was the best. We were able to kick back and just relax. The hot tub was perfect after a long day of driving and hiking amongst the redwwods. Thanks Julie for the great time.

I was pleased with the cottage accommodations at My Little Farm. When I arrived, after a long drive, the owners even brought me a plate of lasagna dinner & glass of wine, since they had enough leftover from their own dinner. It was an unexpected, thoughtful gift & blessing for my weary bones. Thanks! The bed & the linens were really cozy. I got to sleep in each day & enjoy not hustling & bustling like I normally do. There is a small fridge, microwave, toaster, French press & electric hot water kettle, plate, bowls, cutlery, glasses & mugs... Even a few pantry food items. The cottage is a great jumping off point for hiking in the redwoods, wine tasting at local vineyards, driving over to the coast, etc. Santa Rosa is a pretty big city with lots of restaurants, shops, a mall with major department stores, etc. I tried Johnny Garlic's (a Guy Fieri restaurant), good food, a little pricey. Crepevine was delicious, order-at-the-counter savory & dessert crepes, reasonably priced. Went to Heritage Public House by recommendation of the cottage owners' daughter, it was a fun place. I sat at the bar to enjoy my food & beer, chatting with the bartender. There was a big screen w/sports on & a room in the back with pool tables... My kinda place. Thanks for the recommendation! The owners of the cottage were a nice couple & made me feel welcome to explore the property & hangout with the animals if I wanted to. I had an impasse with one of the roosters though... He didn't like me & chased me out of the barn area, crowing at me & trying to attack me anytime I came close to the barn :/ which was a disappointment since I love being around animals. The owners mentioned that they would have to get rid of the rooster. I would love to return to this place if my rooster nemesis were gone or reformed ;) I also, unfortunately, got a full body rash from the jacuzzi. I went to urgent care to get it diagnosed & treated. Strange. When I told the owners, they didn't say it had happened to any previous visitors, so probably a freak thing. If you like a really comfortable bed, with kind hosts, near wine country, redwoods, geysers & lots of other sightseeing, along w/getting to mingle at the farm with alpacas, dogs, cats, ducks, geese, guinea fowl, chickens, a potbelly pig, miniature horse, miniature donkey, this is the place for you... (As long as the unfriendly rooster is gone/reformed/locked up). It was a good getaway weekend despite the rooster & rash :)

Owner response: Thanks Jennifer for the kind words about your stay. Mr Mean Rooster has found a new home AND we have hired weekly maintenance service for the Hot Tub! You were a lovely guest and we appreciate you taking time to write of your visit. Hope to see you again at My Little Farm! Julie and DW

We loved staying here! It was quiet and peaceful and seeing all the animals was a plus too :) The cottage was clean and had everything we needed. The owners were very accommodating and it was pretty close to everything we needed to get to. We would definitely stay there again.

Lovely little cottage! I took my 3 year old grand daughter for a weekend on the farm and we had a really good time. She especially loved the tree house and the hot tub. I especially loved the comfy bed and amazing willow tree. My only issue turned out to be my own fault for not reading the guest guidelines. I found myself washing our dishes in the tiny bathroom sink in a wee little plastic tub. And discovered on our last day that if we put our dirty dishes on the front porch they would be collected, washed and returned. Oh well :) Julie was so awesome and kindly brought over some wonderful books and a puzzle for us to use, since I left those things behind accidentally. My only suggestion would be a small compost bucket in the room! Other than that, it was a very special weekend for both of us!

We wanted something centrally located between the coast and wine country, something we could relax in and not be surrounded by lots of people and hotel rooms. This place was perfect! The hot tub was wonderful after a lengthy drive, the bed was comfy, the entire place was clean and inviting! Julie made us feel so welcome! We enjoyed our tour of your gardens and loved the animals! Thank you for sharing your retreat with us and we would love to come back!

I loved, loved, loved staying on this property. I felt so welcome and hated to leave! The room was ultra-clean and well-appointed. I didn't want for anything. The friendly owners grow the most exquisite flowers throughout the property and there were hummingbirds and a plethora of birds, butterflies, dragonflies, etc...that flitted to and fro! The barn has a menagerie of farm animals that are very docile and love human contact. That was certainly a bonus! They also have an amazing garden of vegetables that is fun to walk through. I enjoyed picking fresh tomatoes right off the vine and having a great snack. The smells on the property are heavenly, especially when the owners are canning from their fruit trees or garden. My mouth was watering most of the time! Most importantly, this is a place of peace and relaxation. I loved taking walks around the property and to a nearby canal trail that also unfolded the beauty of God's creation. It was a photographer's delight. It was also a short drive to the Francis Ford Coppola winery, as well as Korbel, the Russian River and, in fact, all Sonoma County wineries. The best part is you can bring your wine purchase back to the bungalow, sit outside on the lanai or under their spacious and shady weeping willow tree and enjoy to your heart's content. I would recommend this for anyone trying to escape the city or a busy life. This place is an excellent and ultra-safe environment, perfect for a single person, couple (young or old), or a family with one or two small children. Oh yes, and the about comfortable. Five-star hotels don't have anything on this place! I will come back to this place again and again. I am drawn to it and I'm happy to know it is waiting for me!

We had a wonderful time getting to know the wonderful animals on the farm. You don't have to visit them if you don't want to, but of course we wanted to....They are all rescues and well loved. DW keeps a lovely garden from beets to greens to tomatoes and garlic and squash... we were lucky enough to leave with some veggies! You want to support good people with good hearts that give excellent customer service! The cottage is cute and had everything we needed from french press to hot cocoa and fresh towels/linens and toiletries. Breakfast was yummy homemade muffins, fruit and jam. Can't go wrong with the price, either & very close to wine country.

Owner response: It is always a pleasure for us to share our farm with folks who appreciate the environment. Our animals are our treasures. The gardens provide DW hours of enjoyment which he loves to share the provisions. Thank you for your stay and your kind words!

We had the pleasure of staying at the little farm during the tomato festival. Julie made our stay wonderful with a beautiful room to stay in. She also had everything that we need for a weekend get away. Loved the country setting and all the animals. Would love to stay here again in the future and will recommend to anyone. Thank you for the wonderful weekend.

I was looking for a break from my busy everday life, and boy did this fit the bill! The Little Farm is beautiful and like stepping into another world. Loved all the critters running around...chickens, ducks, geese, peacocks...and lots of them had babies. I really enjoyed hanging out with and petting the horses, donkey, and pig; they were all pretty friendly. I also enjoyed spending quiet time jsut reading in the beautiful gardens - there is an abundance of beautiful and colorful flowers. Used the pool a little bit, too. Julie and D.W. are wonderful hosts and the most down-to-earth people you will ever meet. Julie had great recommendations for restaurants and exploring the area. And her home-made muffins (and jam)are to die for! Julie and D.W. are available to help in any way, but not at all intrusive. The cottage was adorable, very comfortable and very clean. Plenty of towels available, along with coffee, tea, breakfast cereals, books and magazines, and more. I really couldn't have enjoyed my stay any more, and I would highly recommend My Little Farm for those looking for a slice of country life.
