Spending time on our farm will give you the gift of country silence that increasingly is out of reach in our noisy, fast paced over crowded world. You will hear roosters crow, donkeys bray and other typical farm sounds to delight the senses. Staying on the land provides a brief, but intimate, glimpse into the way things used to be and confirms that, somewhere in this technologically advanced world, there are simple charming and unhurried enclaves still viable. There are some of us who are still living quite well on what we cultivate from the land. In these microcosms of society you'll find counterbalance from the hectic distractions of the city to a slower quieter rhythm of country routine.
The premise of a farm stay is relatively simple: we open our farm to visitors and share with you the many facets of life off the beaten path. Seemingly a world away, yet close to San Francisco and situated in the center of the Wine country of Sonoma County.
We are a small working farm in Santa Rosa and easily accessible from all major airports in the bay area. Visitors are invited to participate in the daily chores, (this is not a requirement for your stay, simply a choice) and may rejoice in the opportunity to get in touch with nature--literally. Tasks can include the feeding of hens, and gathering of eggs, grooming the horses, barn chores such as mucking out a stall, or weeding flower and vegetable beds to name a few. If your first love is the earthly delight of soil, we have multiple gardens and orchards to tend. This is your vacation to do as you please, if Wine tasting and extraordinary meals is what you long for, Sonoma County has them in abundance.
Accommodations are simple, a lovely little cottage with a welcoming rose arbor inviting you to step into a more simple relaxed place. You can enjoy predictable comforts of a porch swing while sipping a glass of sweet tea. Sit with your morning coffee next to the well tended rose garden while hearing the buzzing bees busily gathering nectar for the hives on the farm. Relax in the delightful display of hummingbirds in our butterfly garden, all under a wide sky with long views to Taylor Mountain. A farm stay with us allows you freedom of light and space, gaining an appreciation of the value and beauty of ordinary things almost forgotten. While gliding smoothly under the willow tree your senses will delight in the animals that ramble close by. You may hear occasional quacking, honking, neighing, peeping and always the whispering of leaves beckoning you to be still.

One of the best country side retreats in the bay area

Being someone who longs for country life and has raised chickens/ducks in childhood and loved it, I have always wanted to find a place in the bay area where the family can get a good taste of country life in a weekend retreat, while also being affordable. Boy is that hard! That's why I feel so lucky I found this place. I wander upon Julie's place on the internet while looking for some ducklings to buy as pet, and eventually it led me to this beautiful and heart-fulfilling weekend retreat on Julie and Dick's farm. Only 2 hours drive, and we left the busy bay area life behind, and are among the many chickens, ducks, geese and goslings, and of course the two horses and the so very friendly miniature horse and donkey. The sound of all these farm animals, the smell of the dirt and grass and even that from the occasional horse dung (only in the barn area of course, as the cottage itself is a fair distance from the barn and is super clean), completely washed all the tiredness and stress away from me and my family. I enjoyed help Julie collecting the horse dung while learning a few tricks here and there, while my wife and son enjoyed playing the swing and other kids friendly facilities. There are a lot of activities that made the 2 day stay feel really short. Julie and Dick are so friendly and helpful, they showed us around in the barn, answered every one of our questions about the farm and animals patiently. By end of the trip, you feel like you almost forgot you are an engineer, not a farmer. Everything was well prepared in the cottage, and made it feel just like home. You do need to bring your own food or simply eat outside, but city Santa Rosa is just within 10 minutes drive, besides fresh juice and yogurt in the fridge prepared by Julie (at no additional cost) make it very convenient. Oh did I mention beach is only 40 minutes drive away through some beautiful cow grazing land and wineries? Not like in south bay that you have to drive over a hill to reach the beach. So if you want some alternative activities packed in the same trip, you got plenty of choices. All in all, a highly recommended destination for any family in the bay area who is looking for a very affordable, relaxing and memorable country side retreat. I hope you will enjoy this place as much as I do.

My Little Farm is a quiet and serene place to get away from the city. I took my boyfriend here as a surprise for his birthday, and he loved it! I only have good things to say: clean, quiet, love the animals, snacks in the room are a plus, and JP was very helpful. I will recommend this place to my friends and family.

We loved the country setting, friendly dogs and cats. Julie's delicious muffins and fruits are wonderful. The eggs we bought were full of egg flavor, just like what I use to have when I was a child! My 10 year old son loved it a lot too. We for sure will be back next year for vineman again!

We absolutely loved our weekend at the My LIttle Farm Cottage. The cottage was very clean and extremely comfortable. Julie made sure that we had everything we needed and was so gracious and welcoming. We appreciated all of her attention to the details to make us feel welcome. Our 2 year old daughter was in heaven. Every morning she could not wait to go outside and visit all of the farm animals. It was so fun to see the chickens, ducks, and geese wandering around the beautifully landscaped property. Without a doubt, this is definitely a place we will be visiting again!

"Thank you for such a restful and peaceful stay Dick and Julie. Everything you promised on your listing is true! What a charming, spotlessly clean and inviting cottage you have. We will tell all our friends back home about My Little Farm Country Cottage. We especially loved the ducks greeting us each morning while we drank our coffee on the rocker glider."
