Quaint and Charming
Quaint and Charming
I stumbled upon this cottage at the last minute and cancelled my hotel suite in the middle of downtown Memphis. I am so happy I did so! This cottage has such charm and character. I love its proximity to downtown, the zoo, Overton Park and the Children's Museum. We were very close to everything! When we arrived, we were met by the owner (who was extremely friendly), and given a tour and the keys. The house was very clean and spacious. Our reason for traveling to Memphis was for my daughters 8th birthday. She brought along 2 of her best friends. So,our entourage included my wife and I, our oldest daughter and three 8 year olds! The roominess came in handy! It was perfect! Everybody had their own space! Whenever we come back to Memphis we will definitely stay at Platinum Place!

We stayed for a a weekend visit. The house was ok. The floors are very uneven, very dated, no cable tv, no internet available and broken chair in the living room area. The water pressure in the shower was good and strong but the hot water runs out very quickly and bathrooms are small. The house was ok to stay in for a night or two but we won't stay in this place again.

This years motorcycle trip took myself and a friend to Memphis TN. We decided to forego the traditional hotel stay for something a bit more comfortable or something with an "at home" feel to it. Platinum place is a very charming, quiet and safe place. We came with very expensive motorcycles and were pleasantly surprised that the neighborhood was a very safe place to park them. Off street parking was a plus. The exterior of the house looked great, the owner obviously put in some time. The interior was very large and very clean. Again we were very pleasantly surprised (a lot of times the advertised pictures don't reflect what you actually get upon arrival...but this time it did). However even with all its charm and personality the owner needs to put a little money back into the place to make it more modern and updated. In this day and age most people travel with a laptop that they use to plan events and keep in touch with family and work..PP needs to have wireless internet (secured prefered but unsecured will do also). The Televisions in the bedrooms need updating and the carpeted flooring in the bedrooms needs a new updated look. We didn't do much ..ok any.. cooking so the appliances were not an issue but that dishwasher..lol..scared me. Overall this place was actually great for the money, the manager, Donna, was very accomodating and knowledgable about the history and attractions in the area (since we didn't have internet we had to use her knowledge..lol). It was in a wonderful location, not too far from the river and yes close enough to Beale street for the REALLY adventurous to walk..but I'd take a cab,one of the trolley cars or a quick 5min drive (Parking was plentiful and Very cheap if not free). If my travels find me in Memphis again i'd strongly consider staying haer again...I would hope that some things would be updated by then but if not it would still be on my short list of places to stay... I did sort of give you that southern, grandma's house, comfortable feel that you sort of look for in a home.

This was our first time stepping outside the realms of Marriot, Hilton or other major hotel chains. Donna was friendly & greeted us upon arrival with fresh fruit. The home had plenty of space considering it was a 2/2. Great bang for the buck. Just the room rate plus tax, no $20/night parking or other fees. Overall an enjoyable experience. The only downfall is it could use some cosmetic updates(flooring, paint, curved hotel shower rod in bathrooms).

Great location, close to all the attractions that we were intrested in. This home was clean, quiet, comfortable.. It was great that it provided off the road parking. The Queen Bed needs new sheets. We got there and Donna meet us to open door. She was great. But we were told the dishwasher did not work. This is advertisted so it should work. I did make it work and informed Donna how to work dishwashr for future guest. The house needs a lot of work. The doors and base board need to be painted with enamal paint. The walls need another coat of paint. I think it is over priced for the conduction of the house. Patio is not finished. Needs a gas grill. We were not sure of the safety when you go out the back and AC is chained and locked under house. In the other review it said they had a basket of fruit. We did not.

Great location, close to all the attractions that we were intrested in. This home was very clean, quiet, comfortable, and safe. It was great that it provided off the road parking to allow us to park our motorcycles off the street. My husband and I traveled to memphis with two other couples. The owner was very helpful and worked with us on check-in arrangements that provided us to travel at a safe pace. The home was spacious and provided more than enough room for all of us. We were impressed with the entire layout of the home. The beds were comfortable, clean lines, the furniture was clean and tastefully decorated. The kitchen was large and full equipped, the only thing missing was a toaster. The basket of fresh fruit gave it an inviting feeling. The washer and dryer was a plus, we were able to wash our clothes before heading on the road. We had an excellent stay and will highly recommend this home to friends and will stay here again when our traveling bring u back through Memphis.

Owner response: We want our guest (you) to feel right at home while enjoying the comfort of our home. The kitchen now has a toaster as well as other utensils that can be useful in preparing your favorite meal. A custom-made arbor with patio is where you can sat out to enjoy the fresh air. Your suitcase and your grocery bags is all you need for that HOME FEELING!!!!!!!
