Pine Shadows is a well maintained home situated in a peaceful and tranquil location offering solitude, yet only a few minutes from the local amenities - supermarkets, restaurants, gas station etc. The home was clean and comfortably furnished, with everything you could need to make this a home from home. The relaxing atmosphere of just sitting out on the deck, overlooking the wooded area made it difficult to actually want to go out for the day. The location of the home means that it is possible to make several sightseeing trips without having to drive the same route to and from it every day. It is an area that provides numerous opportunities to explore the nature in all its splendor. Karen was very patient and responded to our numerous questions with prompt and informative replies, and helping us with useful tips for our journey from Orlando. Being on holiday from the UK and having only limited knowledge of the area this was very much appreciated and proved most useful to us.

Our one month spring in the mountains was everything described, and more. We brought our Golden Retriever for a lengthy visit to the Chalet while we looked for a retirement home in this area. The location is ideal for easy access to the many attractions of Asheville, as well as to the solitude of hiking trails , private wineries and antique shops of the Columbus/Tryon/Saluda areas. Even so, we chose to just sit on the deck and admire the amazing views of spring awakening on several of our days. The property was very clean and well maintained. I had more spices and herbs to cook with than in my own kitchen back home. This kitchen makes home cooking fun! The king bed is very comfortable, as are the couches and chairs. We had two bedrooms we did not even use. Very spacious. The huge fireplace and vast music selection made even the rainy days an adventure. I have already recommended this property to my sisters, and friends back home in Iowa. I would recommend buying a Waterfalls Map, and taking in just as many as you possibly can. Karen has boxes of information on most all other attractions and restaurants in the area.

Gateway to heaven. The Chalet is a peaceful and tranquil home that is secluded, yet only a few miles away is a small town with all the amenities that you would need. The location is close to historic settings, shopping and scenic tours. The photos on the listing only display a fraction of the beauty of the well-appointed home and grounds. We watched the sunset from the deck and a great view of the woods and the mountains. Our little dog loved taking in the sun through the patio doors. The attached garage was definitely a plus. We had some rain during our stay and it made loading and unloading uneventful. Karen, our hostess, was accommodating and attentive. She promptly responded to any inquiry or concern. We didn't see any deer, but we saw a white (albino) squirrel. You will not be disappointed with this rental.

We had an awesome time at the Pine Shadows Chalet. It is great to vacation with all the luxuries of home. The house is decorated so cozy and inviting that you really don't want to leave. The first two nights we were there it was cold enough that we actually got to build a fire in the fireplace and that was really nice. The deck gave us the opportunity to observe deer in the lower part of the woods. We were 1 hour away from Cherokee so we visited the casino one day. Hendersonville has awesome antique shopping. Landrum, SC also has amazing little shops. This house is located in the perfect location for visiting winerys (there are at least 3 that are a very short distance away), antique shopping or just riding and enjoying the amazing views. Located about 2 minutes from town, you have all the fast food restaurants, dine in restaurants, pharmacy, grocery stores, gas, etc. that you could want or need. This house is the PERFECT vacation spot and we will definitely be returning. We did not want to come home!! Thanks Armels for offering this amazing rental opportunity. We can't wait to go back!! Thanks again, The Bakers

Felt like we were living in our home, with all the amenities! Very private, plenty of room. Saw deer the first morning, right outside trotting by. We really enjoyed just relaxing, BBQ and taking short day trips to many local sites. Highly recommend.

We enjoyed our stay at Pine Shadows very much. The house is in a peaceful and private setting, yet conveniently close to restaurants and other amenities. The house feels like home, with the right furnishings, fireplace and stunning view of a forest from the deck. With the attentiveness of out host Karen, we felt like we were staying at a friend's house. Whatever question or concern we had, Karen addressed it immediately. We definitely would consider returning here for future vacations and highly recommend it.

We were looking for a cool climate away from the Florida heat. We booked 2 weeks, end of July and beginning of Aug. Before our vacation time came, Karen called and said it was as hot there as in Florida. She was kind enough to let us change our dates to one week in Oct. and Thanksgiving. Our week in Oct. was great. The temps. were wonderful and the trees in the back were just starting to change. When we arrived at Pine Shadows, we were pleasently surprised at how clean it was. It was very nicely decorated and had an "at home" feel. Mollie, our little 10# dog, loved the deck. She thought she was something being able to go on the deck without a leash. She spent time out there laying in her "sun spot". We enjoyed Lake Lure and and had a picnic by a beautiful, clean stream. We also went to Tryon and Saluda. We had lunch at The Purple Onion in Saluda and it was delicious. Karen is a great host. She kept in contact with us and whenever we had a question, we just E-Mailed her and she answered immediately. She called after we arrived to make sure everything was in order, which it was. Thanks Karen for sharing your beautiful chalet with us. We can't wait to come back with our family and have a "Mountain Thanksgiving".

Karen leaves nothing to chance to ensure that your stay is a memorable one. It's more than just not being inconvenienced, she takes it to the next level with thoughtful amenities that provide added and unexpected conveniences as well as endless conversation pieces throughout gathered from faraway places. The Chalet is comfortable, cozy and attractive. It is truly a home away from home, and Karen is the perfect hostess...even at a distance! For a pleasant dining experience - good food, service and atmosphere, we recommend Larkin's Carolina Grille in Columbus - on W.Mills St. one-half block from Houston Rd. For a bit of Americana history, Carl Sandburg's Home a few miles away in Flat Rock - Take the tour, it's well worth the time. And if you make it to Asheville during your stay and enjoy Mexican food, go to Papa's and Beer southwest of downtown. It's the best - for food and service.

The property was absolutely wonderful. Secluded, peaceful, excellent views, exactly what we were looking for. I especially enjoyed the large deck outside. The owner was patient and welcoming, going out of her way to help us to secure a last-minute reservation. I would definitely recommend this property, it was perfect for our small group of friends.

If you are thinking about renting this chalet, you have made a wise choice. We chose to stay here instead of a hotel in Asheville and found the location very convenient for all of the activities we had planned. The cabin is secluded and private, yet 5 minutes to major highways and grocery stores. The house is extremely well stocked. When we arrived, there were popsicles in the freezer, toilet paper in the bathrooms, cleaning products galore, towels, and a fully equipped kitchen (even a breadmaker). The chalet also has an unbelievable record collection. If you are a fan of show tunes, classical music, irish music, or classic rock, you will feel as though you have landed in heaven. Below is an email I sent to the wonderful owner about our visit: Hi Karen, We are having a great time! Today we went to Biltmore to take my daughter's senior pictures, and yesterday we went to Linville Caverns. I think tomorrow we may go to Chimney Rock and Lake Lure and then just hang out at the house on Saturday. We discovered your record collection and have really enjoyed playing some of those oldies but goodies for our children (who have never seen a record player!). We are a big show tunes family, so you can imagine our delight with your collection. Our 4 year old especially enjoys the music from "Annie Get Your Gun" and the Chipmunks album. We dined at Larkin's Carolina Grille on Tuesday night and liked it so much that we went back again last night. My daughter said her meal was "the best food I've ever eaten." Really. This really feels more like house sitting for our super cool friends. We can tell you have a great sense of humor from the house manual. Thanks so much for sharing the chalet with us!

The Pine Shadows Chalet sits atop a peak within a pine forest of peaceful views. The home is serene and private and yet you are only a couple miles from I-26 for easy access to modern conveniences. It feels remote, but you not. We enjoyed relaxing by the fire. The home has an impressive collection of literature and music. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook a fabulous dinner. The most gracious owner Karen was helpful and responsive before and during our stay. Highly recommended.

A beautiful house with a secluded feel but only a short drive from grocery stores and the interstate. The kitchen is suitable for cooking enthusiasts and the bookshelves are stocked with an eclectic collection in case you forget a book. The house is well maintained and the owner responsive to calls. The homey atmosphere and personal decorating made us feel as if we were house sitting for friends. By the way the loft bedroom was much more private than the word loft implies. This was our first visit to the area,we will visit again and stay here if possible,

My husband, our toy poodle, and I spent a delightful month at Pine Shadows Chalet. The home is lovely (well maintained and clean), with every need anticipated and met. We enjoyed the privacy, as well as the proximity to the nearby towns of Saluda and Tryon. It is a short distance to Hendersonville, Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway. We enjoyed the furnishings, the handwork and the art. We recommend the home, the view, and the owner in her willingness to share this vacation home and to make the stay a happy one. (When the owner says the computer is slow, believe her. It was wonderful to have computer access, but it was not fast!. All else is wonderful.)

We spent a relaxing spring break here--the house is in just beautiful surroundings, quiet, with walking around the house. We made some short driving trips to get breathtaking views down into the valley, and also had some great hiking at Chimney Rock Park. There are cute artsy towns nearby, Saluda and Tryon, which were fun for windowshopping and eating out. The place has everything you need, it's comfortable, and we enjoyed the fireplace and stunning view from the deck. It is stocked with everything imaginable, so we never were in need of anything. The house is easy to find and access from the highway. The owner was also very friendly and accommodating and made arrangements quickly and easily. I highly recommend it!

Our family spent Thanksgiving, 2007, here. Such a welcome this beautiful home gave us! It is surrounded by tall trees and tree-clad mountains all gold and crimson at this season. It was cold outdoors, but indoors all was warmth and comfort -- the sofas large and meltingly comfortable; the colors soothing; homey decorations everywhere. The owners have some lovely textile art (quilts, cross stitching) which they have framed or hung attractively -- all very early American and charming. The kitchen is easy to work in; everything in the house spotless. From the high rear deck we spotted deer in the nearby woods! Short drives took us to excellent hiking areas; this area is replete with waterfalls. We visited Carl Sandburg's home, Lake Lure, and Asheville. We drove the back roads and found roadside stands for apples and such delicacies as kudzu jelly (it's good!). It was a restful, happy time. We'd love to return.

Pine Shadows is an outstanding Chalet. It is in a wonderful location. It is private and surrounded by nature, yet easy to get to and close enough to major roads so that access time is quick in and out. The home is beautiful and very comforable. The house is nicely furnished with everything you need for a nice stay. The owners are very easy to work with and organized in their handling of the house, which is a plus. Dogs are welcome at Pine Shadows, which was very important for us. Our dog loved it and so did we. We highly recommend Pine Shadows. It is a very nice "home away from home".

We thoroughly enjoyed Pine Shadows Chalet. The home is beautiful and full of wonderful amenities. The furnishings were very comfortable with lots of personal knicknacks to make the place more homey. The owners were terrific and very accomodating, eager to make our stay a positive experience. Our dog was well accomodated and felt very comfortable in the house. We were happy that the town of Columbus was so close by to purchase groceries and Hendersonville and Asheville were a drive of little more than one half hour. We would highly recommend Pine Shadows. We loved our stay.
