I arranged a team office meeting/social weekend on the Nantucket Lightship. She is presently docked in Newport Rhode Island - right in the middle of the most active and vibrant area of the city. We were wedged in between grand luxury yachts with big staffs and the "Grand Red Lady" has psazz and glory and wonder that is not available in a modern super yacht. I could not recommend this any higher for a family or a business venue. The ship is magnificent and luxurious. There is a stretch of public rooms - salon, dining, huge kitchen and bar, next to an intimate library. The master suite and two guest suites are off these public areas. The cabins are huge with great bathrooms, incredible beds and bedding, and all private baths. Down below is a huge entertainment area and two more cabins - one with 3 doubles and a single. The photos of the vessel do not do her justice. It feels and looks so much larger. All of the fittings are first rate - great upholstery, armchairs, sofas, tables, and incredible lighting. The deck has scads of lounge chairs, hanging hammock type chairs, and cocoon like basket chairs - plenty of room to hang out and eat a great meal on the table for 12. The crew was absolutely A++ - committed to the history and the service they offered. Chris - the captain and Alyssa - the concierge were charming and we look forward to their visiting NYC this fall. We were kind of burned out after two very difficult weeks in our Manhattan office and wanted to just chill. Alyssa set the stage and the kitchen every morning for us to do so. Never in our face and a marvelous buffet set up just as we had asked. They were a delightful crew to talk with and we passed many hours talking about their world travels. They kept the public and private spaces impeccable and pointed out magazines that featured articles on the Nantucke Lightship so we could get more of a sense of her history. There was something very special about being in the marina and dock area. All of the major restaurants and shopping were right there within minutes walk. Yet - once aboard - it was all extremely tranquil and sitting on the deck with the whole view of the ocean and magnificent sunrises and sunsets was quite an unforgettable and spiritual experience. Tourist season in Newport was over and we had the greatest time at a Food and Wine weekend and enjoyed the best in dining everywhere we went. When we identified ourselves as guests of the NL - we were A+ welcomedRecommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway.
