We loved our stay. The cabin was charming and just like Sphinx Park that it resides in: it's wonderfully unique. If you're looking for a true taste of Colorado and its wild Argonaut history, this cabin and the surrounding area does not disappoint. Private. Clean. Unique. Cozy. This cabin is only a couple doors down from the Bucksnort Saloon, a historic stage coach stop from the 1880's. Go for dinner, snacks or cocktails. The other rough-hewn cabins and homes in the area are fun to simply drive-by. There's lots to do in the area from fishing, biking and hiking. Lost Creek Wilderness is only miles away. Highly recommended. We will be back.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

The cabin was perfect and even more beautiful with the first fall snow. The cabin has everything you need for a great stay. The bed is so comfortable that you won't want to leave it. The kitchen has everything you need to cook any meal and if you want to go out you have to go to Zoka's at least once. We have stayed at Ron & Sue's B & B in Missouri so we knew the cabin would be just as great and we weren't wrong. We recommend the cabin to anyone who wants to get away, relax and have some fun.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

What a perfect little cabin in the mountains! We have family including three grandchildren in the area and this rental was the perfect solution to visiting them without putting a child out of his bed. It was well equipped for our short stay and extremely comfortable. We will certainly look into staying there on our next trip to the area.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Having stayed with Ron & Sue many times at their Osage Beach MO B&B we knew that this property would be exceptional. We were not disappointed! The cabin setting is magnificent with Elk Creek running behind it. The pictures of the interior don't do the cabin justice. It's much larger and more inviting then they show. We received almost daily calls from Ron making sure all was well. The Buck Snort Saloon is within walking distance and has good food and great atmosphere. Zoka's Restaurant is a 5 minute drive. It was a pleasant surprise to find gourmet dining in such a small town. Fishing, hiking and site seeing are just a short drive from this property. Our dog Brody also loved the cabin and the mountains. If you want to spend a great time in the mountains at a terrific property, look no farther. This is the place to stay.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

Ron & Sue...Cathy and I had a wonderful time staying at your cabin last weekend. It was a perfect getaway to decompress and enjoy the outdoors as well relax in your beautiful place. I even took a dip in the creek below!! We brought our mountain bikes with us and made great use of them on the nearby Colorado Trail. Of course we also stopped by the Buck Snort Saloon and took in the Saturday night entertainment. Thanks again for allowing us to use your cabin and we definitely look forward to another stay in the future. Our family stayed in this wonderful cabin on Elk Creek for a week (July 2011), and we couldn't have been more pleased. The pictures don't really do the cabin justice, as it is much better as you walk in the front door. The kitchen was well outfitted and spotlessly clean. The hardwood floors were polished to mirror like shine. Our daughter loved the loft, and especially the ladder to climb up to the loft. There were plenty of games, books, movies, etc: almost none of which we used due to our being out and enjoying the spectacular air and scenery of this wonderful part of the world. We enjoyed eating at the nearby Buck Snort Saloon, Zoka's in Pine; hiking near Pine Lake, and on the South Platte River (gorgeous!!); curio shopping at the Pine Emporium, and much more. This was a wonderful and relaxing vacation in a beautiful slice of the country. When you go, say "Hi!" to Fred and George (boar and elk, respectively).Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

I chose this location for a guys fishing trip with my dad and brother. What a great cabin! Provided the perfect atmosphere for the getaway and its location right next to the Bucksnort Saloon is ideal. The location is beautiful, right along Elk Creek and only a short drive to Deckers for some fly fishing. We couldn't have been happier with the amenities and decor of the cabin. The owners and caretaker are very nice and easy to communicate with. I highly recommend this rental.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I (along with our 2 Beagles) arrived for a long weekend on July 9th. What a perfect time of year to visit the Sphinx Park area. The cabin was very clean and inviting, with gleeming hardwood floors, a comfortable queen bed and beautiful windows that allow for a generous view of the pine trees and Elk Creek. It's a top-notch remodel and addition to an existing cabin, but it has kept it's unique and rustic appeal with features like the natural pine exterior siding. We spent time on all 3 decks, including morning coffee and cooking steaks for dinner on the gas grill. The abundant wildlife in the area was our entertainment (who needs television). We must have seen 8 to 10 deer, including one large buck that walked right up the creek behind the cabin, and the bird feeder was attracting a variety of birds. The Pine Valley Ranch Park was our favorite place for hiking and fishing, and we found a few treasures to buy at the Rustic Mantle in Pine. A must-see are the walls of the Bucksnort Saloon. It's a great place for fun, food, beer and live music. Lunch at Zokas in Pine was also very good. We highly recommend the Rocky Mountain Retreat.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and I just returned from our stay in this wonderful cabin. It was everything we were hoping for. The owners have done a wonderful job of making some very nice and key renovations making the cabin both rustic and comfortable. The view and the sound of the creek behind the cabin was a special treat throughout our stay. The area is beautiful and provide us a unique experience. We are looking forward to our next opportunity to stay in the Rocky Mountain Retreat.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
