We were prepared for the worst having read the review of the previous renters. Based on the review we expected the place to be invested with mice so we brought traps. We caught the little guy the first night and although we set a trap every night for the entire week we never caught another. We never had any indication that there were any others. The place is rustic but that is what we found so charming. It was clean and the sheets appeared to be newer and smelled spring fresh. The screened porch was my favorite place to hang out, it is large with plenty of seating. The dock and stone beach was fantastic for the children. Shallow enough for the little ones but deep enough off the dock for an adult to jump in. The view was beautiful and the cottage was located in a lovely spot on the lake. I couldn't complain about anything it was a perfect get away.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

The site is incredible, the best spot in all the years we have been coming to the lake. The dock and front porch were also some of its best features. It is really rustic--very "cottagey" which appealed to my husband since that is where he spent his childhood. There was a problem with mice and we had to throw away food. I suggest making sure you pack all dishes and food up in sealed containers to keep the mice out for sanitary purposes. I wish we had been warned.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children.
Owner response: We certainly agree with the renters that we have the best view on the lake from our rustic 1928 cottage! Happily, the renters who immediately followed these renters were able to get rid of THE mouse and no further problems were encountered by subsequent renters!

About the owner: Susan Harris and her three youngest nieces -- who also love the Harris cottage! Susan is one of three siblings (plus Bob Harris & Molly White) who own the cottage. She is a retired university professor and physical therapist who lives in Vancouver, BC but enjoys spending time during the 'shoulder months' (early June or late September) at the cottage -- providing it's not rented then!
Why the Owner Chose Canandaigua:
Rustic family cottage built by our grandfather in the 1930s and then 'doubled' in size by our father in the 1960s. 110 feet of lake front with a large dock. Perfect for swimming, canoeing, sailing, fishing, etc. Beautiful, large, clean blue lake (17 miles long and 1 mile wide at our end).
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Campfires with s'mores, sunning in the Adirondack chair on the dock, lots of long leisurely swims in the beautiful lake, listening to the crickets at night and watching the fireflies dart about. A quintessential cottage experience! Adults, children, and dogs all love it here. :)
