This was the perfect place for us to have our own little birthday party. It was so quiet, peaceful and romantic. We just loved it with all of it's amenities (hot tub, loft bedroom with a great view). The cabin had everything we needed and the description was very accurate as were the pictures. The cabin was very clean and well maintained. We would recommend this to anyone who would like a romantic getaway with so many places to see all within just a few miles up or down the coast.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

We had a beautiful weekend stay to celebrate our anniversary. From falling asleep under the night sky to waking up surrounded by redwoods, the loft bedroom with skylight was our favorite part of this wonderful space. We loved having breakfast looking out to the Pacific and soaking in the private hot tub for two. The hiking guides and maps available in the cabin were invaluable in helping us figure out how to best enjoy the surrounding area. Would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends.Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

I can't say enough good things about how wonderful the cabin is. It was well worth the 10 hour drive up from Los Angeles. There are so many beautiful sights to randomly come across in The Sea Ranch and neighboring Gualala, including a James Hubbell meditation chapel and a the beautiful St. Orres. This is an architecture nerd's dreamland. Get breakfast in Gualala at Trink's. We will DEFINITELY come back, if not move here! (In our dreams).Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

The Redwood Cottage is a great place for a cozy peaceful getaway with all the comforts of home. Named a cottage, but more like a big, warm clean cabin that wants to be a house. Tucked in the beautiful redwoods, close proximity to the shoreline, and minutes from rec centers and good places to eat. It made returning to Sea Ranch after about 15 years a pleasure for two.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

This was our first over night stay in Sea Ranch & we loved this cabin! Quiet & private location in the beautiful redwoods with multiple hiking trails accessible from the front door. Redwoods + ocean views = it doesn't get any better than this. Our favorite feature of the cabin were the 2 giant sky lights covering the entire ceiling above the bed. There are no street lights in Sea Ranch so it was the ultimate star gazing experience from the comfort of a bed. There are dark sky light curtains so you can sleep past sun rise. The hosts were very kind to turn on outdoor lights & heat for us so everything was cozy upon our late arrival. One of 3 club houses was just down the street across Hwy 1. The outdoor heated pool has an amazing ocean view followed by a choice of 3 saunas: a family sauna by the pool or individual in the men's or women's locker room. Thanks for a great wknd!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

This place is perfect for a quick getaway. The cabin is just off highway 1 giving you access to nearby attractions like Fort Ross, Point Reyes lighthouse, and small coastal towns (Bodega Bay, Point Arena, Jenner). The location is quiet, private with a lot of access to trails, with the beach just a short walk away where you can also mingle with other visitors/ locals, and see deer, whales, and harbor seals if the season is right. The cabin is perfect for 2, with huge windows everywhere! Skylights over the bed, a view of the ocean, a hot tub on the deck, and a fully stocked kitchen for cooking. If you want to connect to world, there is also wifi. Gary is a great host, they're cabin is full of about the area and they're always available for questions, etc. Rent it!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

Winter time is great. In the banana belt the weather is warm, sun shine, and minimal distrations. My wife sat in front of the stove the entire stay while I walked the area and photographed the beautful surroundings. All the creature comforts of home are here; your choice if you wish to use them. The redwood counter tops are amazing, as well as the open beam ceilings. We brought our own groceries for breakfast and lunch, then ate at Bonz every night. The view through the skylights seems to go on forever. We planned on returning this June but had to cancel due to health reasons. The owners were very respectful and willing to assist for a future date. The past 6 years was spent in the lighthouse quarters in Point Arena. Our anniversay home is now the redwookd cabin....!Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway.

We had an amazing time at this cabin! Cozy but large enough to be comfortable. We felt like we were in a treehouse high in the redwoods, with an ocean view! The owner's directions were clear and the place was easy to find. Sea Ranch is a really interesting area to explore--very secluded, beautiful hiking trails, and lots of options for beach access. The nearby town of Gualala has groceries, shops, and restaurants. The cabin was clean, the kitchen had everything we needed to prepare a gourmet meal, and the hot tub was perfect for two people. The weather was colder and foggier than we expected but we drove inland to the sunny Russian River area for a swim. I'd highly recommend this cabin for a couple nights away from the city!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

I've been wanting to visit Sea Ranch since the architects that I work with always vacation there with their family. However, only traveling with my boyfriend, I decided to stay at this redwood cottage for two, which I found that "camping" in the redwoods was actually more enjoyable than staying by the sea which was much windier and colder when we visited. The cottage is designed by Obie Bowman in the 1970s, and the layout makes very good use of the compact space (although I wished the bathroom was larger). Looking through the owners', Gary and Elaine's, scrapbook, I came to appreciate the work and care they put into the cabin when they purchased it. They even invest in making the experience better for visitors, from adding the hot tub to now having wi-fi. I especially loved being able to watch the stars from the comfort of my bed through the skylights above us. Gary was very responsive and helpful, including advising us to bring flashlights since it was a new moon with little light; the flashlights came in handy after watching the fireworks from the bluffs at Point Arena and then returning to the cabin after dark. During our stay, the area was quiet and we only noticed that one other cabin was occupied. We had no problem parking in the lot 1/10 mile down a road. The cottage had plenty of reading materials on Sea Ranch, trail maps and guides, and even a cassette tape driving tour of the area, from which we discovered Annapolis Winery. Gary didn't charge a cleaning fee, and the place was clean. The kitchen was stocked with cooking utensils, dishes, pots and pans, but we brought and used our own. Thanks, Gary and Elaine, for providing such wonderful accommodations; we loved our first visit to Sea Ranch and look forward to returning.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1998
About the owner: We had visited The Sea Ranch many times over the years and wanted to come more often. We purchased the Redwood Cottage in 1998, spent some time putting our imprint on it and have enjoyed sharing it with many visitors since then.
Why the Owner Chose Sea Ranch:
The 'walk-in cabins' are a unique group of small but well designed homes with a minimal footprint in keeping with the original Sea Ranch concept of living lightly on the land. Each is surrounded by 'commons' rather than having lots which are contiguous with their neighbors.
They have everything you need in one open space, plus a loft for sleeping.
When we had visited The Sea Ranch we typically stayed in one of the conventional Sea Ranch houses. They were lovely, but we kept thinking all we need is 'a little cabin in the woods' .
When we learned about these unique homes it just seemed right for us.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Waking up to see the towering redwoods through two huge skylights is always amazing.
One of us is a runner and hiker who loves to run/hike the many trails right from the cabin.
One of us enjoys the peacefulness of the forest with the ocean in sight.
We both look forward to relaxing in the spa and watching the stars overhead.
A short drive takes us to easy access to the bluff trail to be close to the always changing ocean.
