We so enjoy this apartment and the setting thate we have stayed here twice so far, and plan to do so in the future. Very convenient to the subway. We were very comfortable in the neighborhood, and the owners are very nice. Clean apartment. Nice to have washer and dryer.

We traveled as a family with 2 children ages 8 & 11. The property was easy to find and was in a nice neighborhood. Subways were nearby as well as a market and various restaurants. The property itself was very nice and had everything that we needed. The washer/dryer was so nice to have with the family. Lauren was always available for any questions and was so helpful. The listing was accurate and we had a great time. We would go back in the future and would definitely recommend friends to stay here as well.

I’m not sure what to tell you about first: the gem of the location or the exceptional hosts! I’ll start with the location. As a family of 3, when our plans to stay in a typical Village apartment fell through, we were more than disappointed! However, as travelling doesn’t usually go to according to plan, rather than staying Downtown, we’d ended up spending our 2 week stay in New York, Uptown, much to our delight! I’m talking about West Harlem, or, what is more commonly known today as Hamilton Heights. This well-known area is slowly becoming gentrified, and the stunning brownstone houses (like the one we stayed in) are being renovated and returning to their former glory. Easily visited all the must-see sights, including the Statue of Liberty, Empire State and Central Park, as well as the museums and galleries, all via the well-run underground, which is direct and convenient. After exhausting days of being a tourist, we always looked forward to arriving ‘home’ to the relatively quiet and non-touristy area of Hamilton Heights, where we could explore at will. Yankee Stadium is 2 stops away. My son and I enjoyed a memorable game! Not far away, we discovered Fort Tyson and The Cloisters – a collection of medieval architecture and art, which is truly breathtaking and beautiful. The Hudson is just a stroll down the road. Walking past Our Lady of Lourdes up the street, I enjoyed being a welcome part of a local Harlem Church service. A riveting, cultural experience, which cost $0! Each morning, I joined the locals on their way to work for great coffee at a tiny patisserie called “Tanto Dulce”. My husband and son bought some authentic (and cheap) Mexican wrestling masks at a local Mexican goods’ store, and further down the road, we ate well at the local Mexican restaurant. As for the hosts, Lauren and Peter, they looked after us exceptionally well! We stayed in the renovated ground floor apartment of their brownstone mansion, complete with living room, bedroom, kitchen, laundry, and most importantly, their peaceful garden, with ping pong table! Breakfast outside is lovely and we played endless ping pong with our son during downtime. The apartment is perfectly clean and accommodated the 3 of us (though can take up to 6). The apartment is totally enclosed and the hosts will leave you to your privacy. Yet, as I had a thirst for local knowledge, I couldn’t have received better help and advice! Ten out of ten!!

We spend 7 great days in this nice appartment with our kids (7 and 10). This part of town is rather authentic and very interesting and unproblematic to stay at. The backyard provided a welcomed zone to relax. Subway connection to mid- and downtown within walking distance and a large selection of food places in the neighborhood. Lauren is a great host and very accomodating. Thanks for a great time!

My fiancée and I stayed here for a week over New Year's. We loved it! The apartment itself has wonderful space, character and comfort - some beautiful antiques nicely placed in a charming open space. It is well equipped with a great kitchen, TV, WiFi. A couple of nights we decided to stay in with cooking or takeaway - it is a very easy place to relax in. We really felt like we were on holiday. The street outside is quiet, yet once you step onto nearby Broadway it is a buzzing community. Very close to the subway and a quick 10-15 minute trip into the tourist areas of Manhattan. The local Fairways market has a most interesting a wonderful food collection. It is one of the best food markets we have ever been to, and coming from Ireland, that is really saying something! The owner Lauren was most helpful during our stay - she has a plethora of local knowledge that was very useful for us when we arrived and throughout our stay. A pleasure to deal with. A home away from home, this place comes highly recommended by 2 seasoned world travellers! PS: For Jazz enthusiasts - a very short cab ride away is the Smoke Jazz & Supper Club-Lounge on Broadway and 106th. What fun!

This is a terrific apartment and Lauren, the owner is a pleasure to deal with. The place is just as lovely as the photos - clean, spacious, comfortable and with a warm ambience. Myself and a friend came here for four nights after we'd been staying at a VRBO apartment in the lower east side (also an excellent place) and we're so glad we did, as it gave a great opportunity to experience NY from a different part of the city. From Lauren's apartment you can easily catch subways and buses to just about anywhere in Manhattan, Brooklyn or the Bronx and the walk to the stations/stops at any time of the day or night is a breeze. It's a residential area and also close to the City College so there are always people about - families, students, workers etc. Several times we caught the "Uptown D Express" back to the apartment in the late afternoon with plenty of time to relax, have a beer (grab them from the corner shop on the way home!), freshen up etc and then to head back to midtown or downtown for a show, dinner or music - it was so quick and easy to do this. Plus the Hamilton Heights/North Manhattan area itself is interesting and well worth exploring - we can particularly recommend the spicy brunches and the evening time "house special" margaritas at La Picante down in Broadway. Having an internet connection was great as we could check our emails and look things up without the hideous international roaming data charges - and when my notebook was having trouble picking up the wifi Lauren straight away found a separate ethernet cable for me to use and made sure it all worked properly. Many thanks - we hope to be back again one day :)

This apartment is accurately described. The inside is very nice with a clean and original look. The beds are very comfortable and clean. The garden patio is a great escape from the hustle and bustle of NYC. I rented this apartment with my girlfriend and her daughter, at no time did we ever feel unsafe in the apartment or walking to the close subways or store. You can easily get to the subways from here that will take you everywhere in the city. We also found great parking right on the street close to the apartment. The best part of the apartment though is the owners. Lauren and her family went far beyond the typical apartment renter to help us out with accommodations when we had some car troubles and needed to adjust our stay at their apartment. They were helpful in telling us where we could eat and how to get to the places we wanted to go. I highly recommend staying here for any trip you might make to NYC and I will stay here again on our next trip.

This apartment is accurately described -- it is spacious, clean, convenient (great subway service with minimal walking to stations), super quiet, very responsive owner, easy access to Fairview supermarket (great not to be missed supermarket!), pleasant tree lined street, all modern appliances... We spent a week while we set our daughter up at City College and will definitely come back. I especially appreciated the owners attention to details such as stocking the kitchen with adequate dishes etc., washer/dryer, great block out shades for sleeping in after a late night out on the town, great sheets and more...

My wife and I stayed at this location for six nights with our three teenage children and were very comfortable. The space is ample and well furnished and the brick walls give it a great look and feel. Comfortable beds, nice comforters, dishwasher, washer and dryer all good. Overall a great value for New York City. We would not hesitate staying here again and would recommended it to our friends and family. One comment, We were asked to pay our balance and a security deposit in cash. For me, I was not comfortable arriving to New York City with what I would consider a large amount of cash in my pocket. Fortunately, the owner was flexible and accepted a check for the remaining balance and a credit card for the deposit, but I am sure other people may feel the same way. For people staying four or more days and who plan on using the metro, I would highly recommend getting a week pass for unlimited use. We have used VRBO four times and have not been disappointed!

Owner response: Thank you for the great review - it was very nice having you. Just a word about the comment on financial arrangement: it is simply an effort to protect our small business! Many people stay for short periods of time and are from out of state or out of the country, so a personal check from far away will rarely clear in time, and using a credit card for payment is expensive for us, so avoiding this charge keeps the apartment as affordable as it is. For the security deposit, a check can be stopped and a credit card charge denied in the event of a disagreement, so we feel cash is best for this too. If there are mitigating circumstances we are happy to discuss ahead of arrival time, and/or direct our customers to the many banks within walking distance so they do not have to travel with an uncomfortable amount of money in their pocket! I will second the advice to get unlimited metro cards to afford unlimited travel around this city with unlimited possibilities!

My daughter and I stayed at this immaculate and charming property for a week while she auditioned at nearby music schools. A bonus for us was that she could practice violin without disturbing anyone; impossible in a hotel. The apartment has a wonderful feeling of space and is perfectly maintained. The photos are certainly accurate, but in actuality the apartment was even nicer than I expected. The washer, dryer, and dishwasher were great to have. The owner made sure we had coffee and other staples to start our stay. We stayed in winter and didn’t use the garden, but it is delightful. The subway stations were even more convenient than I expected from the description. The owner was very helpful and directed us to a wonderful nearby market, restaurants, and had great advice about getting around the city. For the last few nights of our stay two friends joined us and we were perfectly comfortable staying with the four of us in the apartment. The apartment would be well suited to a couple who like lots of space or to a family with children or teenagers; lots of room! There is excellent wireless internet and television. I would highly recommend this property and would certainly stay again.
