Gorgeous Mountain House on the New River!
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Our house is the only home in our beautiful 18 acre estate nestled beneath a high ridge on the banks of the New River, which creates a wonderful sense of privacy along with the sounds and scenery of nature-- the rush of the river water below and the sigh of the wind through the trees above.
This is a birder’s paradise, with hiking trails in either direction on the river banks, or for the more adventurous, up to the top of the ridge. Other hiking trails are nearby, as well as floating or kayaking outfitters to assist you. You can also fish from your own private bridge where the trout like to hide, or hire a local guide for fly fishing. During ski season, the slopes at Beech Mountain or Sugar are only 45 minutes away; Hawksnest and Appalachian even closer. The historic town of Todd is in your backyard, Boone is only 7 miles away (10 minutes), West Jeffersion is 10 miles away (15 mins), and Blowing Rock is 15 Miles (20 minutes). Interesting shopping, including outlet malls, quaint artistic areas and local color, Appalachian State University, are all within a short drive. But you may not want to leave your porch!
Nothing has been spared for your comfortable accommodations. This house has been completely remodeled within the last year: new carpet, hardwood floors, all bathrooms, and entire kitchen. On the main entry level there is a spacious living room with stone fireplace and 42” flatscreen TV and DVD player, a dining room seating 6 - 8, and a wonderful kitchen with gas cook top, double ovens, wet bar, and island with seating for two. There is a large gas grill on the main deck, with decks and porches on every level overlooking the river.
Your four bedrooms and four baths are configured as follows: On the main entry level one queen bedroom and sunroom, one full bath with walk-in shower, separate Jacuzzi tub, and double sinks—perfect for anyone who does not do stairs. Upstairs there are two large queen bedrooms and two full baths. Downstairs there is a large den with a sleep sofa (very comfortable) and a full bath.
This lower level is where the kids of all ages can hang out. There is a 42” flatscreen TV with DVD and ability to hook up your own games, Wii, etc., a game table for board games, cards, etc., a computer desk with Hughes Net (wireless or plug in) for your lap top or computer games. On this level there is also a kitchenette with refrigerator and microwave, laundry facilities, and two-car garage.

My family including husband, 3 dogs and 3 grown kids had a wonderful vacation at this upscale house. We cooked gourmet meals almost every evening in the well stocked kitchen. We drove upstream about 5 miles to a kayak put in and drifted back to the house for take out but we had a truck and enought people to do this ourselves. I believe you could do this thru the local outfitters there. Taking the kayaks out at the house was just a little bit of a challenge. The banks of the river are about 6' so we had ropes tied to help us out. A stair there would make things easy. The road in front of the house, across the river, was very quiet. Traffic is not a problems there. The house was immaculate, the furniture and carpets are all exquisite and the beds are very comfortable to sleep in. With 4 baths, no one every had to wait to take a shower. We enjoyed visiting surrounding towns: Todd with the pot bellied pig Petunia wandering around unpenned, West Jefferson with good restaurants and markets, and of course, Boone with just about everything you need. We want to come back!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing, pet owners, families with young children.

We had a wonderful stay at this house. The listing describes it well, and the owner was very helpful and responsive whenever we had inquiries. The huge, updated kitchen was a perfect spot for our family to gather, and the porches overlooking the river (and the many people rafting and tubing) were great. Highly recommended.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Our long weekend stay was wonderful! Home is much more than we expected! Beautifully decorated, AWESOME kitchen, everything you could possibly want is there! Enjoyed our morning coffee looking at the beautiful scenery and listening to the river. The owner was exceptionally easy to work. As a property manager for 20+ years, this was one of my best experiences with a rental property! If you want privacy, lots of space (3 levels) and a beautiful home, THIS IS IT! Can't wait to go back!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

Beautiful home. Could not ask for a nicer place to stay. The view from the front porch looking down on the river is way cool! You can also hear the river running night and day, so relaxing. This home lacks nothing. Great kitchen, large bedrooms with comfortable beds, nice places to get away by yourself, very comfortable furniture. The kitchen dining area opens up to the porch which makes gatherings easy. We turned the A/C off when we arrived, opened windows and enjoyed the fresh air. We spent one day tubing down the New River, how relaxing. Hiking trails are abundant in the area. Horseback riding was available nearby. Boone and West Jefferson are only 20 minutes away. We ate mostly at the house. The grill on the front porch was great! The 4 nights we spent there flew by. We will return. The home owner is very friendly and accomodating.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, sightseeing, pet owners, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Just wanted to drop you a short note to say how much we enjoyed the house on the river. Your parents have really got a wonderful place there. It was instrumental in our enjoyment of the area and will be a big part of the memories that the kids made this last weekend. We hope to be able to visit again someday as we are always wanting to visit the mountains and I can't think of a better place to stay.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/4

We had a wonderful family summer retreat from the heat at the Carroll's beautiful mountain home. The location was perfect right invent river - we could hear the sounds of the river at night with the windows open enjoying the cool mountain air. The house was so spacious and exquisitely remodeled with my dream kitchen! The dishes, utensils, pots& pans are top of the line- they had everything we needed for our gourmet dinners. We loved our time at the Carroll's mountain house and will call them again for our future stays in the mountains.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/3
