Dual Master Bedroom: Designer Accommodations for the Long-Stay
- Minimum stay:6 nights
- Internet:No
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:Yes
Evidenced by the photography, narratives and passion of companion properties listed on this site- and seared into the American imagination by the paintings of Georgia O'Keeffe- the Piedra Lumbre basin captivates; a thin place. From the edge of a mesa, Casita á Medida surveys it all: red cliffs forming Abiquiu Lake to the East, Ghost Ranch expanding to the North, Chama River Valley to the West and El Pedernal dominating the horizon to the South. Filling between are the ranges of Sangre de Cristo and the Jemez, Santa Fe National Forest and Kit Carson National Forest. And dark sky nights.
To experience this area takes time, a lifetime pursuit of many. Days of hiking, fishing, boating, rafting, discovering petroglyphs, searching for fossils/ historic remnants; trips to Santa Fe, Taos, Ojo Caliente, Navajo Lake, Heron Lake, Chama, Pagosa Springs, Silverton and Durango, CO. Casita á Medida is designed with the long stay in mind. Built in the spirit of Northern New Mexico with deep deference to the surrounding landscape, Casita á Medida is a compound style retreat with one building housing dual master suites and another the great room, forming a protected patio third living space. The vast windows frame the art listed above (follow the changing forms of El Pedernal while preparing dinner; overlook the serenity of Ghost Ranch as you relax in the soaking tub). Inside melts to out. Designed to be completely off-grid, the site also features sustainable design such as passive solar mass, solar heat-boost for the domestic hot water and radiant floor heat, as well as gray watering, rain catchment and Holzer spirited permaculture supporting landscaping designed to further the circle.
With dual master suites (featuring a King and Queen or Queen and two twins) and a separated great room/kitchen structure, Casita á Medida can be modified to meet the needs for your stay. Allow yourself the time to be able to appreciate the experience. Allow yourself permission that the enjoyment - and biggest achievement- was that the day was.

We spent 3 weeks at Casita a’ Medida and loved every minute! The house sits on probably one of the best parcels of land in Mesas de La Joya. The views are just spectacular in every direction. All 360 degrees there is something incredible to see, from the Ghost Ranch to the famed Pedernal, it is just breathtaking. From where the house is situated you have a great view of the lake and can also see right down into the Chama river channel that flows into the lake. We really enjoyed watching the fishing boats and the water skiers going up and down the river. Until you have experienced them for yourself you can’t appreciate the sunrises and the sunsets. Most afternoons bring a thrilling thunderstorm with dazzling cloud formations and colors and spectacular rainbows. In addition to all the wonderful surroundings the house itself is pretty incredible. It’s very nicely furnished, comfortable and all the amenities of home. The master bathtub with its rain showerhead and beautiful vistas is quite an experience! You won’t be disappointed with Casita a’ Medida.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

I took my family to this home to get away from the stress and worry of our busy lives, and it did not disappoint. The casita is beautiful, and the owners are great. The views are well worth the trip off the beaten path to find, and the home is well furnished with everything needed. While we were there, there were issues with the water supply and the owner was very responsive, making sure that we had a supply every day, even though he had to get it pumped in from an alternative source. It was a wonderful getaway vacation in a fantastic location.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

Wow what a great place to spend a relaxing and remote vacation. My husband and I took our kids for a family ski vacation and could not have been more thrilled with the house. It is a little difficult to access with snow on the ground but well worth the trip. The scenery was stunning. Being from Texas we don't experience a lot of snow so when it began on Wednesday of our trip and continued through Friday it was quite a thrill. Hopefully we'll be back in the not too distant future so we can explore the area. The house itself was beautiful inside and out. All the amenities were provided for us, nice fluffy towels, extra blankets, all the cooking utensils. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone wanting a secluded, romantic getaway or a family looking for some peace and quiet and a respite from the usual harried pace of life.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

We spent five nights at the casita. The setting is beautiful, with mountains, red cliffs, and water in every direction. I already miss the views and the peacefulness. The night sky was inspiring. It was clear during our stay, and the Milky Way was as as bright and beautiful as I've ever seen it. The house was clean and comfortable. The house is somewhat remote, so stock up on groceries. My favorite part of the trip (away from the house) was at Bandelier National Monument. The pueblo and cliff dwelling ruins were fascinating to tour. Recommend Cowgirl BBQ in Santa Fe and the Bent Street Cafe in Taos. Overall, this was one of my favorite and most memorable vacations.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers.

My girlfriend and I spent 2 days in this casita last fall. The only thing that could have made our trip any better would have been to extend our stay. From the second we pulled up, we were enthralled with the never-ending view. Even though the place had satellite, all you needed to watch was the sunset. It was 100 times more entertaining than anything I've ever seen on TV. My recommendation is to draw a late night bath in the master bathroom facing the river. There are windows around the entire corner! All you have to do is turn out the lights and enjoy the stars! (and hopefully a mate for the tub!). Even though it felt like we were in the middle of nowhere, I never felt like we were without all the comforts of my own home. Even though we didn't get to hike up to the Pedernal (the mountain overlooking O'Keeffe's Ghost Ranch), we took a walk down to the boat launch area. I wish I was there during the summer months, because the owners said they have a boat available for use. I can only imagine the views from out in the water! If you are looking for a picturesque, luxurious rental house with all the immenities, this is definitely the place to go. I can't wait to go back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway.
