My only regret about the cabin is that I couldn't stay longer. It was such a wonderful place. It was so beautiful and peaceful. There were no surprises. Everything the listing said was absolutley true. Thank you so much for letting me rent the cabin. It was a wonderful experience. It was a 6 hr drive from Baltimore but it was well worth it. Even once I made it off the highway the scenary was so calming and relaxing. I will definitely be back.
Owner response:Amanda, I am with you all the way. As soon as I see the mountains, I feel better! Take care and visit again.

We have stayed at many rental properties and hotels, but this is the first time I have taken the time to write a review. We originally planned to spend Christmas skiing at Mountain Mama's but there was no snow and most of the trails were closed. Chrissie was very flexible allowing us to move our booking to MLK weekend and we enjoyed a fantastic weekend. There was fresh snow and we were able to ski the main Snowshoe basin, Silver Creek and Cupp Run. The cabin was exactly as described and was cosy and very functional. It was spotlessly clean on arrival and everything was in perfect working order including the water. The kitchen was well equipped although we only cooked breakfast. We really enjoyed fine dining in a casual atmosphere at the nearby Elk River Inn which had an outstanding menu and avoided the need to drive back up the mountain. 4 wheel drive was essential to reverse up the driveway with the snow on the ground. Mountain Mama's was perfect for an adult family of four plus dogs. We will definitely return and Chrissie was the best owner we have every worked with. Elk River Rentals in front of the cabin were also good and gave us a 10% discount on both purchases and rentals when we said we were staying at Mountain Mama's.
Owner response:Thank you so much for taking time to post a review. We are glad that you enjoyed your visit! Come again. The Snowshoe area is great during all seasons.

we loved our stay at the cabin.....thank you so much for renting the cabin to us....the only minor thing was the drive way up to the cabin....there was not a way to turn the car around....the edge of the hill was so close to the drive....we were not being to sure of the the slope....pls can you you concider a turn around by the front or side of the cabin....so others can do a 3point turn and go straight down instead of backing down...which can be scarie to those not used to the terain.....other than that it was great and we will tell others about your great place Thanks again, Randy and John
Owner response:Thank you for choosing Mountain Mama's cabin for your stay in the Snowshoe area! We do provide suggestions for the easiest way to get up and down the driveway. The previous owner offered the suggestions to us. We don't own sufficient land to widen driveway. There is an area at base of driveway to do 3 point turn and back up which is easier than it sounds but not the same as having that space ourselves! Thank you again and come back soon!

Chrissie, We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay on our first visit to the Snowshoe area of West Virginia. The place was spotless, everything was in working order and very well equipped so all we need to bring was our food and clothes. We loved just sitting on the porch and enjoying the peace and quiet. We definitely will recommend your lovely cabin to our friends. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Chrissie The cabin was very clean and ready for us when we arrived. The flowers were very beautiful and we want to thank the gentleman that picked them. Please thank him for us. The only problem we had was the water. It had a very strong sulfur oder. I read your instructions and called about the water and they came and added the chemicals. It took a while before the sulfur oder deminished. You may want to check the toaster it did not work when we tried it. The cabin was very nice and Dorothy and I had a very good time staying their. It rained several days and it was a bit chilly outside in the mornings. At night we had to use both fans to circuate the air in cabin. It did get a little warm inside of an evening and we could not keep the front door open to help cool the cabin. There are a coulple of inprovements we could suggest. The frist is to install a wooden screen door to keep the bugs out. We have several miller and mesquites to content with. The second is to provide more lighting in the living room/ kitchen and down stairs bedrooms. Thank you for allowing us to use the remaining days. We did not have any night time visitors (the bear) this time. The cabin inside was clean and the yard around the cabin was clean. Hope you and your family will be able to spent some time at the cabin soon. Thank and god bless you and your family Ed and Dorothy Gunno Jr
Owner response:These guests are repeat visitors. We have been unable to visit our cabin since January, so I asked them to let us know the condition of the cabin and and anything we might need to take care of. The info I sent to prospective guests includes the info on the well water. It is quickly remedied if the well owner is notified that the water has a sulfur smell. Come visit the cabin and enjoy any season in the Snowshoe and Pocahontas County area! Chrisise Burriss, owner Mountain Mama's cabin

Our family loved staying at Mountain Mama's Log Cabin. The cabin was really cute, with a lot of charm, and very clean. It's really close to Snowshoe and thus to all the restaurants and activities in the area. We went off season and highly recommend making time to visit Beartown State Park. Chrissie was great to work with- we had to cancel our reservation at the last minute due to our daughter arriving one month early and she was so flexible about switching the dates of the reservation. We will definitely go back to Mountain Mama's next time we visit Snowshoe.

What a great trip! The cabin was just enough. The pics did a great job of reflecting the actual setting. With 3 queen beds there was plenty of room to sleep 6. Everything was provided for us: bedding, towels, dishes and cookware. Only had to pack our ski gear and food. The cabin was super clean, as well. We were a little concerned about allergies since it is a pet-friendly cabin and we don't do pets in the house because of the allergic reactions. Not a sign of animals having been there. Directions to get there and to get into the cabin were detailed. Even when arriving in the middle of the night! I'd just echo the recommendation that if you are going with snow on the ground, you should drive a 4-wheel-drive vehicle. The road up the hill to the cabin is steep and untreated. What a great alternative to staying on top of the mountain. I'd stay there again.

Very nice, very clean, sleeps 6 people but was just the perfect size for 2 (and 2 Akitas). The water was stinky upon arrival but we called and that was taken care of within 3 hours (on a Saturday, no less), which was very nice.
Owner response:Cabin is on a shared well which is maintained by the previous owner. We give all guests the info for contacting this person as he depends on being notified when treatment chemicals need to be replenished. Chrissie

We stayed in the cabin in early October for a three day relaxation getaway. The weather was excellent, and the cabin was so comfortable. We toured North and East, enjoying driving through Snowshoe, Cass, valleys in Virginia, and going past the NRAO. The day we left, two deer walked along the road near highway 66, then right down the middle of the road. Our dogs were fired up! Perhaps a one-word summary would be "peaceful".

We visited the cabin last weekend which was the first weekend in Oct. It was amazing!! My husband raced at a mountain bike race at Snowshoe so we were very close. I loved that we saved money by being able to run back to the cabin for lunch. Chrisie(sorry if I spelled wrong) is one of the sweetest people I have ever delt with. We tried to rent the cabin in June but I got into a car wreck and even though we were unable to visit she sent a email sending me a speedy recovery. I was very pleased to learn that the cabin was available for us. I would recommend it to anyone.

We were there March 6th-8th and had a great time. The house provided everything we could possibly have needed with the exception of groceries. However there was a basket with tea, hot chocolate, coffee and creamer, which was wonderful to be able to make a pot while getting settled! It looked exactly like the pictures so no disappointment and Chrissy couldn't have been any nicer or more helpful. My daughter and I enjoyed just getting up and having coffee out on the porch just as much as going to the slopes! It was very relaxing and cozy! I'd go back tomorrow if I could.

We had a great stay at Mountain Mama's Cabin. Wonderful location for a ski weekend at Snowshoe. While we were there the temperature stayed in the teens and about 8 inches of snow fell. We stayed warm the whole time. The cabin was very clean and the kitchen was well stocked. We would recommend this location to anyone. Thanks for a wonderful weekend.

We made very last minute plans to go to WV in mid October and Chrissie was GREAT to work with. The cabin was clean and cozy and we had a very relaxing time. There's not much to do there at that time but take nice drives, and that's all we really wanted. Having laundry facilities was a big bonus. My only advice for those who might visit the cabin is to make sure you take ALL the cooking supplies you need. We thought some of the basics (like spices) might be left by previous parties, but it was not to be. I appreciate how this prevents pest problems, so we made due. Also, the market was closed so we were glad we got our supplies in a big city (at Wal-Mart) before we headed into the mountains.

We loved the cabin. We have four kids who range in age from 14 to 4. They loved the loft area as they could watch TV from the bed. The cabin has everything you need. Very nicely decorated also. Lots to do and everything is close to the cabin. Green Bank has a very cool science center for the kids. Snowshoe is awesome. They even have an Indoor/outdoor pool and hot tub you can pay by the day $8 per person. Cass railroad is very cool. I recommend the 5 hour tour to Bald Knob. The 2 hour one is just a teaser. We will rent the Mountain Mama again!

Wonderful weekend at Snowshoe! Cabin very convenient, cosy and quaint and a lovely place to cook dinner, play games and relax by the fire after a day on the slopes and we even grilled on the deck in the snowy sunshine. Our dogs loved playing in the Slatyfork Farm grounds and it was lovely to have them with us.

What a wonderful weekend away from DC -only regret is not having come up on Thursday night to get an extra day in at Snowshoe. All the slopes were open & conditions were pretty good. As always, went over to silvercreek during the day on Sat. to have avoid the slopes & ski silver creek with NO LINES! And ditto to other guests' comments about pets - our dogs loved it! They are truly in the element when we took them on walks in Slatyfork Farms & pranced around giddily wherever they could get their toes in the snow :O) And then it was back to the cabin to curl up & snooze by the stove while we went skiing. Great to have the comfort of our dogs with us while on vaca and a super cozy cabin to boot! We had all the comforts of home plus the beauty & quiet of WVa!

The cabin was everything I had hoped it would be. VERY close to the mountain which made it easy to ski for the day and get back quickly to thaw out. The weather was VERY cold and windy while we were there, so it was nice to have a place to come back to and have a cup of coffee or hot chocolate to warm up. It is also nice to have a drier to dry out all of our wet clothes since we packed light. The house is beautiful, has a great location and very reasonably priced. I am planning on renting it again when I come back to ski. The owner was fantastic and truly concerned with whether or not we enjoyed her cabin. I enjoyed every aspect of my trip and would recommend this to anyone who goes to enjoy the slopes during the day and have a cozy place to stay when they come home.

We loved the cabin. It was very warm and cozy. We especially liked the heater/fireplace and the large front porch. There is just something special about a log cabin nestled in the mountains. It is located extremely close to snowshoe which made it the perfect base for the first skiing of the year. The owner could not have been any nicer or concerned that we have a good time. We will definitely return.

We stayed at Mt. Mamas for a long week-end the end of October. The cabin was very cozy and clean, but we did have two mice visit us during breakfast! I guess this is to be expected at a cabin in the woods, though! One very important comment that I must make as a warning to others...do NOT go to the cabin in late October UNLESS you want to literally stay at the cabin and do absolutely nothing else. All restaurants in the town (except one) were closed for the season. The train was closing for the season the day we arrived and the shops (with the exception of one) were all closed until after Christmas! The children's activities center at the village on the mountain was closed also. We read in the internet ad for the cabin that there would be horseback riding which our family loves to do, but when we called around we found out from the Visitor's Bureau that there hasn't been any horseback riding anywhere in the county for a few years! It was very disappointing. However, I am sure that if we would have been told that we shouldn't rent the cabin in late October and we had chosen a different time we probably would have enjoyed ourselves much more than we did. It looked like there was a lot to do "in season." Once again, the cabin was cozy and I have no complaints about the cabin, but we would have liked to have been warned that there is NOTHING to do and NOWHERE to eat. It would have saved us a lot of money and a 8 hour drive each way! Everything we did we could have done at home to be quite honest.
Owner response:Our family is truly disappointed that our guests didn't enjoy their visit. We were not aware that activities were not available in late October. We have verified that horseback riding isn't available according to the county visitors bureau link which is available on our site, and it has been removed from our list of activities. We have updated our site to remind guests to check seasonal activity availability. The Pocahontas County Visitors Bureau web site provides a comprehensive calendar of many activities in the area. Hiking and enjoying leaf color would probably be the main reason to visit at this time.

Just what we needed and then some. . . The cabin was awesome, more than we had expected for a "dog-friendly" cabin. Our dogs had a great time on some hiking trails and we had the most awesome yet frieghtening experience on the Greenbrier River Trail--a black bear ran right in front of us as we were biking! It was incredible! Needless to say, we were wide-eyed as we pedaled faster. We also had the pleasure to meet Governor Manchin at the Raven Golf Course. Thankfully, the weather was cooler so the nights were comfortable while sleeping. We had everything we needed in the well-stocked Mountain Mama's cabin. . . serenity, wildlife viewing, and our dogs. Buster and Wilbur are sleeping right now with thoughts of when they can return to the mountains. Thank you!

What a wonderful place to visit and stay for vacation. We are motorcyclists, so a summer visit worked great for us. The roads are wonderful for cruising. And so many of them. We found everything from 30 mile runs to 200 mile runs. All great. The cabin is well-equipped and comfortable. The deer running outside were plentiful (needed to be really careful when riding!)and charmed us each time we took a walk around "Slatyfork Farms."

We had a fun time at Mountain Mama's and as everyone else stated the owners are the NICEST people ever!!! We came under really icy conditions (unusual for the area I'm told) so parking was precarious! The cabin is on kind of like a small cliff and the 4-wheel drive slipped and slid trying to get up the driveway. The Cabin was clean and the bed was comfy. Steps up to loft are more like a larger ladder. Thanks for having us! Our dogs loved it too!

The cabin was clean and homey! We felt as if we had been the only guests there. The linens on the beds were comfy and clean. It was great having a washer and dryer as we had lots of newborn clothes to wash! Our only problem was finding the cabin at night. We couldn't see the cabin up on the hill and thought the "first" cabin was the first one we saw. It took us a few minutes in the dark with a screaming baby to figure everything out. It would be helpful to include in your directions, that the cabin is a SHARP turn up the hill at the first driveway. Other than that, we just loved everything and wished we had stayed here our whole vacation, rather than switching cabins.

Just returned from a week at Mountain Mamas. The cabin had everything we needed .... very warm (since we were in a snowstorm upon arrival, that helped!) .... very clean ! Although there was snow everywhere, we were able to get up the road and up the driveway without a problem. My oldest son spent the entire week at Snowshoe ... loved it. My younger son stayed with us and we visited the local places. The scrapbook was a big help. The telescope place was great and allowed for a better understanding of our non-working cell phones! Tried to visit Seneca Rocks ... if you go, call first to find out the tour tmes (when we got there they told us we would need to wait an hour or more but offered us the opportunity to shop in their store or eat in the diner -- seemed like a scam!) ... we left. We did go to the Brazen Head Inn to eat ..... it was fabulous. The service was great, food was wonderful. Meck's Bakery on 66 was recommended by Chrissie, and it was our favorite lunch spot. We did eat breakfast at the cabin .... and could have eaten lunch & dinner there (fully equipped kitchen) but we were out and about so we ate out. It was a great place to spend a wintery week!

I can't say enough great things about our weekend. My husband and I (and our dog - Flicka) rang in 2006 at the cabin - after spending the day skiing at Snowshoe (about a 10 minute drive up the mountain). The cabin was perfect. Everything was clean - lots of nice towels, comfortable bed, terrific grill etc. And, Chrissie Burriss was a pleasure to work with. Very helpful and thorough in her follow up. Thanks - we will be back!

Simply beautiful! My wife and I stayed here for our 10th anniversary and it was so much more than I expected. Chrissie helped me make arrangements with a local florist to have flowers in the cabin upon our arrival - a very nice surprise for my wife. The cabin is simply perfect for "getting away from it all." The peace and quiet was almost deafening, and some deer walked right up to us on a walk we took on the adjacent farm property. The furnishings are very clean from the sheets and towels to the stove and refrigerator. I haven't rented many cabins prior to this one, but this rates five stars in my book! I have already recommended Mountain Mama's to several friends who will be as happy and rested as my wife and I were. Thank you so much, Mountain Mama's!
