Accommodations: House, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1 Bath (Sleeps 8)
Sweet turn-of-century home in one of Portland's hottest neighborhoods- Mississippi! Great restaurants, interesting shops, amazing coffee & treats, as well as super fun people watching. House is very close to downtown Portland, and only a couple of minutes from the Pearl District, City Center, Rose Garden and Convention Center. Public transportation is easily accessible, and bikes are welcome and safe here.
The house is eclectically and creatively decorated with lots of art and vintage/eclectic furniture. The sweet backyard patio and quiet surrounding streets give this house a quiet, retreat-like feeling even though you are close to the center of Portland's creative, bustling energy. The house has 3 private bedrooms. 1 is on the main floor with a queen bed. 2 are on the 2nd floor-1 has 2 twin beds, the other has 1 full-size bed. Between the 2 upstairs bedrooms is an open room that also has a queen sized bed. The house comfortably fits 1 or 8 people.
And we are now part of Solarize Portland!

Map & Owner's Profile
Year Purchased: 2003
Why the Owner Chose Other Portland PropertiesWe purchased this home as our private residence in 2003, and have watched the neighborhood bloom into a wonderfully creative, artistic and vibrant corner of our city. Being very close to downtown, the area has become home to many young, professional families who value the benefits living life simply. Biking to work and using public transportation are lifestyle choices that many of our neighbors have made for their own well-being as well as for that of our planet. Valuing sustainability, the area has become a mecca for exciting businesses such as my favorites, The Rebuilding Center and the food cart collaborative that is just four blocks from the house.

I love Portland and the Mississippi Neighborhood. I was raised in this wonderful city and have watched it grow and mature into a vibrant, interesting and creative environment. I am a mother of two fabulous teenage children and got into the rental business to save my shirt when the economy took a dive. I am a contractor who started in the business by doing sustainable and historically responsible rehabs of old Portland homes. When the economy gave me some lemons to deal with, I started making Lemonade by turning my houses into short-term rentals and my contracting business into an Energy Star Weatherization company. I could not be happier with the outcome, as I have met many delightful people in the process.

A week with friends for a conference

My friends and I came into town for a conference and decided that instead of paying the costs of our conference hotel, we would stay at a house in the area. We were really happy with our decision. As these yearly conferences are becoming more and more a sort of academic family reunion the opportunity to just hang out and relax in a comfortable environment is rare. This year, the opposite was the case. We felt very at home in this house, and my favorite part of the trip was sitting around the kitchen table with everyone and still be able to work and talk in our pajamas. The owner of the house was very responsive to our inquiries and was very helpful with any minor problems we had. The house was clean, cute and cozy. There are several restaurants and shops a few blocks away, including a great place to pick up wine and cheese. The home was about 20 minutes away from the conference, but with bus lines around the corner, and the light rail a short walk away, we could get anywhere in Portland. The only downside was the single bathroom that we had to share, but even that was not as much of an issue as we had anticipated. I would recommend this house to anyone that was traveling with friends or family. We had a great time!

Your home worked out really well for our group. The location was super, the neighbourhood was so full of character and the flowers everywhere were delightful. The weather was the icing on the cake. We joined the Portland whitewater canoe club for 3 unforgettable days of paddling. You are so spoiled with amazing locations to explore. We loved your house and thank you for all your hard work with being green. The solar panels were wonderful. Your home was so quiet and the beds were comfortable

We enjoyed our stay here, the house was very comfortable and clean. It was close to some awesome restaurants and bars on Mississippi ave. The garage also came in handy as we brought a bunch of bikes with us for riding around town. Would definitely stay here again.

I stayed at this house August 2011 for a week with a few girlfriends and we had a great time! The house is very comfortable in a cute, ecclectic neighborhood that is walking distance to so many fantastic shops, restaurants, coffee houses and bars on Mississippi Ave. The neighborhood is quiet and the deck over the garage is such a peaceful place to sit and relax. Even though there is only one bathroom, the four of us didn't have much of a problem with that. We really enjoyed our stay here and I think all of us would definitely stay here again. And I love Portland!

My family just spent a week at the house on Congress. It was really great. We have utilized various vacation rentals around the U.S. and Europe. This was quite lovely. Comfortable and inviting. Clean and well maintained. With a large family, we enjoyed cooking some meals at home and having space to spread out. We caught the No. 4 bus on Albina/Mississippi (a few short blocks from the house) that brought us downtown to many exciting activities. We also explored the neighborhood and enjoyed Mississippi Pizza (delicious pizza and live music) and the ice cream shops nearby. Thank you, Kris, for helping us experience a wonderful vacation in Portland. I hope we will return!
