Urban Solar Retreat in Hip Mississippi Neighborhood

Turn-of-century home in one of Portland's hottest neighborhoods- Mississippi! Spectacular restaurants, interesting shops, amazing coffee & treats, as well as super fun people watching. House is very close to downtown Portland, and only a couple of minutes from the Pearl District, City Center, Rose Garden and Convention Center. Public transportation is easily accessible, and bikes are welcome and safe here. The house is eclectically and creatively decorated with lots of art and vintage/eclectic furniture. The sweet backyard patio and quiet surrounding streets give this house a quiet, retreat-like feeling even though you are close to the center of Portland's creative, bustling energy. The house has 3 private bedrooms each with queen beds. 1 is on the main floor, 2 are on the 2nd floor. Between the 2 upstairs bedrooms is an open room that also has two twin beds. On the main floor is the only bathroom. The house comfortably fits 1 or 8 people. And now we are SOLAR!

Awesome Neighborhood, beautiful tree-lined street. Not too close to freeway, quiet, clean.

Hi Carol, Just wanted to let you know that we had a lovely time staying at your house. The location is fantastic (walking distance to Mississippi Avenue – which we loved) and the neighbourhood is lovely. The house was very comfortable and suited our needs perfectly. Thanks again for sharing your lovely home, we will definitely be in touch again when we are planning a trip to Portland. What a great city!Did you find this review helpful? Finally getting around to writing my reviews after a long trip to the US and Canada. This property is a great vacation rental. Carol has the house set up with everything one could need. She was excellent to deal with all the way through. The best thing about the house is that there is ample comfortable seating for everyone to relax at the end of the day. Somewhere for all to sit together in comfort is something often overlooked in vacation rentals. The neighbourhood was close to the city and was an interesting destination in itself. We found many excellent places to eat on Mississippi Ave and all were inexpensive. We enjoyed our stay in Carol's house and would book it again in a heartbeat if we get back to Portland. Recommended.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely home. The house is very clean and very well maintained. It is large - lots of room for everyone ! One of the great things was the location. We were so close to downtown - only a 5 to 10 minute drive tops! The location of the house makes it quite central to just about anywhere you want to go. There are also a few stores and restaurants close to the house. We would absolutely stay here on another visit .Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Carol; Welcome, it was a great week in Portland, the wedding was so great, and spending the time with all my kids from across the country was wonderful. I first off would like to say you have been great to work with, so prompt and accommodating. The house was so clean and well stocked, the kitchen had such nice things. So thanks again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had a great time. Thank you for such a nicely decorated place...great colors and artwork. The kitchen was really nicely equipped, and we appreciated that a lot! We had some nice meals, and you have all of the parts/pieces to a kitchen, etc. The house was very clean, and the towels were great -the little things matter!. Thank you so much. It took us a little while to find the great shops on Mississippi...maybe you could add some restaurants/suggestions to the guide book --that Pastaworks on Mississippi was nice; we also ate at a good Thai place, Mee Sen Thai. We also found that local produce market -Cherry Sprout Produce: http://cherrysprout.com/- a few blocks away that was helpful. We found a terrific sandwich shop en route to the highway called Brass Tacks Sandwiches: http://brasstackssandwichesllc.blogspot.com/ -which our niece told us later on was one of her favorites, and we found it by accident!.Did you find this review helpful? My friends and I came into town for a conference and decided that instead of paying the costs of our conference hotel, we would stay at a house in the area. We were really happy with our decision. As these yearly conferences are becoming more and more a sort of academic family reunion the opportunity to just hang out and relax in a comfortable environment is rare. This year, the opposite was the case. We felt very at home in this house, and my favorite part of the trip was sitting around the kitchen table with everyone and still be able to work and talk in our pajamas. The owner of the house was very responsive to our inquiries and was very helpful with any minor problems we had. The house was clean, cute and cozy. There are several restaurants and shops a few blocks away, including a great place to pick up wine and cheese. The home was about 20 minutes away from the conference, but with bus lines around the corner, and the light rail a short walk away, we could get anywhere in Portland. The only downside was the single bathroom that we had to share, but even that was not as much of an issue as we had anticipated. I would recommend this house to anyone that was traveling with friends or family. We had a great time!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2003
About the owner: I love Portland and the Mississippi Neighborhood. I was raised in this wonderful city and have watched it grow and mature into a vibrant, interesting and creative environment. I am a mother of two fabulous teenage children and got into the rental business to save my shirt when the economy took a dive. I am a contractor who started in the business by doing sustainable and historically responsible rehabs of old Portland homes. When the economy gave me some lemons to deal with, I started making Lemonade by turning my houses into short-term rentals and my contracting business into an Energy Star Weatherization company. I could not be happier with the outcome, as I have met many delightful people in the process.
Why the Owner Chose Other Portland Properties:
We purchased this home as our private residence in 2003, and have watched the neighborhood bloom into a wonderfully creative, artistic and vibrant corner of our city. Being very close to downtown, the area has become home to many young, professional families who value the benefits living life simply. Biking to work and using public transportation are lifestyle choices that many of our neighbors have made for their own well-being as well as for that of our planet. Valuing sustainability, the area has become a mecca for exciting businesses such as my favorites, The Rebuilding Center and the food cart collaborative that is just four blocks from the house.
