Zen House - a Peaceful Oasis Set in a Lush Woodland Garden
- Minimum stay:N/A

Zen House is located up a hidden valley road, a haven of light, lush garden, and Asian art under the redwoods. The living room and kitchen are open to each other in an L, with a dining area between. Two bedrooms are off one side of the living room, and the bathroom is off the other side. Nestled into the hillside, up a set of steps from the main house, is a one-room cottage ideal for reading, writing, or meditation. There are lovely views of the garden and forest from almost every window of the house and cottage.
A detached deck with an outdoor dining table, gas grill and lounge chairs sits in front of the house surrounded by the garden. There is an abundance of seating and a hot tub in the garden as well. The cottage has its own small deck overlooking the house, hot tub, and main deck. The wi-fi signal is strong enough to reach all parts of the house, the main deck, and the cottage. At night, lights illuminate the garden. Views of the softly lit garden, soaring redwoods, and star lit sky from the hot tub at night are magical.
The house is located just 10 minutes from downtown Guerneville where you will find dining, shopping and entertainment. To the west lies Northwood Golf Course (10 minutes) and the spectacular Sonoma coast (25 minutes). To the east lies the heart of Sonoma wine country with the nearest tasting rooms less than 20 minutes away.

We stayed at the Zen House for the 2nd of our 2 week vacation in California...what a welcome oasis after a busy and more urban first week! The cottage had plenty of room for our family of 4, and the boys loved hanging out in the cabin/retreat after a day of exploring the beautiful Armstrong Forest, Goat Rock Beach/coast, playing on the river, visiting Healdsburg for the amazing Tuesday night concert in the square...definitely lots to do in this area, and we still felt that we had plenty of time just relaxing in this very peaceful setting. I have to admit that we were a little concerned when we first drove into the woods to reach the house, as many of the homes/cottages that you see when you first turn off of the highway/River Rd. do seem to be situated extremely close together, and many have seen far better days (maybe), but fear not, the road eventually leads to larger and more well-tended properties, including the Zen House. There seemed to be a dog-barking hour each day, but aside from that, the area was EXTREMELY quiet...I felt that the hot-tub jets were almost intrusive to the stillness of the place (we got over it!) We had a great meal a the Garden Grill, don't miss the custom blended ice cream shop, and the coffee at the roasters on Armstrong Woods Rd was great (if only I could remember it's name). A final word on Zen House: I am a kitchen gal, and very much appreciated the extremely well-stocked kitchen...this owner is definitely a kitchen gal or guy, too! You can make anything here. Come on, a citrus press, just like I have at home?? Highly Recommended!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Wonderful home away from home. It was beautiful to listen to the babbling brook outside the bedroom window. The hot tub is definitely a 4 hour thing! Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful gem in the woods.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

So nice. Everything. How comfortable, relaxing, calm and such beautiful grounds. This cabin and property lends itsel to being easily taken in and experienced. The overall energy is open but tranquil. You have done a fine job of providing for the comfort and pleasure of those who come here. We had a very nice and relaxing time.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Thank you so much - what a space, a place, a home - a haven for our new year's. We had planned to travel to New York but when our flight was cancelled due to the blizzard, we looked into a local "plan B". What a treat it has been - an excellent discovery for the two of us! We love the energy here, the decor, linens, the cookware, the hot tub, the grounds, the ipod dock, the cottage - mostly, though, the juju. We will be back!Did you find this review helpful? What a lovely home! The landscaping is breathtaking and contributed to the peaceful vibe. We had fun looking for all the Buddahs - love them. Thank you for the excellent kitchen and a clean house inside and out. Zen House is sure to linger in our minds. Many thanks.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

It doesn't get much better than this - so peaceful. Every detail seen to for a most comfortable stay and everything of first quality. We'll be back! This was our first kayaking trip on the River and now we are hooked. Only regret that we couldn't have stayed longer!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Beautiully appointed with care, this haven. Every window looking out at nature, soft hues inside and in the garden; the many careful touches inside and out - we enjoyed the discovery of each. Thank you for having such a well equipped kitchen. Most important, the comfortable beds and good nights sleep which we had.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1
