4BR/2BA Lake Home with Breathtaking Views

This is a privately owned lake home with a very relaxed feel. The wall to wall windows overlooking the lake offer breath-taking views. Across the lake is the Deep Portage Wildlife Preserve where you can view or explore 10 square miles of undeveloped State-Owned property.
Our property has a rich family history beginning with the Walsh Grandparents purchasing it in 1973. The original building was a hunting shack which has been replaced with a modern 4 bedroom home with central heating and air conditioning. The Walsh men including the Walsh grandsons, and their father built the current lake home. Following it's completion in December of 2007 we hosted our first Christmas gathering which has become an annual family event. We have a lot of great memories built around this place and are excited to share it with others.
The house is on Rice Portage Lake with access to two other lakes, Big Portage and Deep Portage. There is a public access on Big Portage which easily channels onto Rice Portage. Rice Portage also links onto Deep Portage Lake via a shallow channel.
This property features a private dock with room to park an extra boat. There is a row boat and a canoe available for use. The natural shoreline in front of the cabin is great for fishing, but the natural shoreline is weedy so swimming off the dock or shore is not recommended. We enjoy swimming in the lakes by jumping off the boat.
This location offers a variety of fishing opportunities through accessing the three adjoining lakes.
If you are looking for a quiet location with a relaxed feel, this is the place for you.

After spending the weekend in the calmness along the lake, I can thoroughly say that I am relaxed. The home was an ideal setting for friends or families seeking a getaway from the busy life of the cities. It was very well taken care of and had ton of kitchen items available for usage. Nice assortment of rooms and a fully functioning kitchen with a great big dining room table. The yard was perfect for games or sitting at the picnic table relaxing. The views from the large windows overlooking the lake were breathtaking. The views from the large windows overlooking the lake were breathtaking. Although the lake was not recommended for us to swim in, we made the most of time by the water. Our only disappointment was the non-working water equipment that was "available" for use. The steering equipment to the paddle boat was not functioning and the row boat appeared to be mostly submerged in water. Despite the subpar water equipment, we enjoyed the water just same (when the weather was cooperating). We ended up using the oars from the canoe to steer and made the most of the what we were given. The kids thoroughly enjoyed fishing from the dock and were disappointed we could get out on the water for more. Overall, I would recommend this location again to a friends, if the water equipment was updated.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: So sorry about the row boat! We have had an incredible amount of rain this season and the row boat did not get tipped on it's side. Yes, it was partially submerged. We have since rescued the row boat and it is ready for use. The paddle boat needs to be laid to rest. We have fixed the rudder many times and it just wants to go in circles like an old hunting dog looking for a nice place to lay down. The canoe is ready and very functional for use! Life Jackets available upon request.

"...The smell of bacon sizzling, the eagle soaring overhead, the crackling of the campfire, the crunching of leaves and the peaceful quiet atmosphere was just what we were hoping for. During our stay, we hiked on the local trails, chatted with friendly neighbors, made a quick trip to a nearby convenience store, napped, caught up on some scrapbooking, relaxed by the campfire and of course, ate lots of great food. All of our activities were topped off with a gorgeous sunset and a round of s’mores and hot cocoa for the kids. Our weekend exceeded our expectations and we look forward to more visits in the years to come.”Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

"The location was perfect: a quiet area off the beaten trail but close enough to plenty of opportunities for outdoor entertainment—including the 31 miles of bike trails we adventured along the following morning. It was a great weekend of getting away! We would definitely enjoy staying here again!”Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
