GRANITE RIDGE LODGE 3209 - Teton Village
4 Bedrooms
4.5 Bathrooms
Sleeps 11-15
The Granite Ridge Lodges stand at the forested base of the ski mountain, just steps from Teton Village, the slopes, the hiking trails and the Four Seasons. Granite Ridge Lodge 3209 is a classic of its kind – a lofty, contemporary four-bedroom house with three levels; neighbors to either side and the quiet green rise of the woods behind.
The great room, a half flight up from the front door, is the heart of the house, handsome and welcoming; it is the central living and dining space where windows on three sides allow the eye to soar up to the top of the ski mountain, down through the village and out into the dusky pine forest behind the house. A robust, stone, wood-burning fireplace anchors the space, facing a quartet of leather and cowhide sofas, chair and ottoman. To the right of the fireplace is a small, built-in bar with an under counter refrigerator and a small sink; while to the left, a cabinet hides the TV. The great room is flooded with clear light during the day and flickers with golden firelight in the evening. French doors open to the terrace and hot tub, and the woods.
The kitchen is in a wide alcove just off of the dining area. Sunny and efficient, the kitchen has lots of stone-topped counter space, a center island with a prep sink, a breakfast/sandwich bar that can seat five, and a small step-in pantry. Wine storage is built into the natural wood cabinets; overhead, dark wood beams cross the smooth white ceiling. The dining table, overhung by an antler chandelier, stands before a vast picture window, which frames the lively village and the slopes. At night, drapes may be pulled across for privacy.
Granite Ridge Lodge 3209 has three levels – the top and bottom levels hold three of the four bedrooms, the middle is the main living and gathering space. From the foyer, stairs head up a half flight to the great room, and then on to the master bedroom and a guest room. An open sitting area waits at the top of the stairs, with reading lights, plush chairs and a sleeper sofa; it doubles, in times of need, as an overflow guest room.
The master bedroom is just off this sunny, carpeted spot. The master, set right at the top of the house under a peaked wood ceiling, has a gas stone fireplace with a wide, raised stone hearth – perfect for feet-warming after a day in the snow. The king bed faces the fire, and a flat screen TV set in a cabinet beside it. An enormous walk in closet, a private balcony, and the soft fawn-colored carpeting underfoot add notes of unabashed luxury to the master bedroom. A door opens to a private balcony. Windows look to the wooded hillside; heavy red drapes with a striking antler pattern can be pulled completely closed. The stone-floored master bath has an oval soaking tub beneath a window with a view of the woods. There are double sinks, a separate shower, and a private water closet.
A charming, carpeted guest room also stands just off the sitting area. Here, wooden twin beds stand side by side, a wonderful rustic nightstand accented with twig-framed paintings between them. The guest room has a camping theme, perhaps to inspire forays out into the wilds: an old oar is mounted above the French doors that open to the long, covered porch, a painted fish lamp stands on the night table, and embroidered canoe pillows adorn the beds. Out on the covered porch, Adirondack lounge chairs invite long reveries gazing up to the mountaintops and down at the life of the village. In the private bathroom, the combination shower and bath is illuminated by a little square window with a mountain view gorgeous as a painting.
Set above the garage on the main floor is a second, very comfortable guest bedroom with a private bath. Here, a traditional iron bedstead, flanked by side tables and reading lamps, is made lush and inviting by a cloud-soft, patterned duvet, heaps of down pillows and a smooth white coverlet. A crossed pair of old-time leather and wood snowshoes above the headboard sparks thoughts of the next day’s adventures. A dresser and a big walk-in closet provide plenty of space to unpack.
Granite Ridge Lodge 3209’s lower level is floored in deep green Colorado stone. On this ground floor are a mudroom, a laundry room, a TV room and the lower living quarters. The warm and comfortable TV room feels Adirondack in spirit, with strong reds, muted greens and warm browns. A rustic twigged cabinet holds the flat screen TV, perfect for movie night, or – for denizens of the sleeper sofa – movies in bed.
Off of the TV room is the bunkroom, equipped (as is every bedroom in Granite Ridge Lodge 3209) with its own iPod docking station. Together, the four rustic log bunk beds – one with a queen bed on the bottom – can comfortably, and joyfully, sleep five. Fluffy duvets are covered in classic Pendleton wool. A little desk with a reading light and a chair with woven leather seat might inspire letters to friends left back at home. There is a private bath just off the bunkroom.
Behind Granite Ridge Lodge 3209, the grassy back yard ends in a rocky stream and the steep rise of the mountain. The outdoor grill and picnic table may inspire many a warm-weather dinner party: the hot tub has a music system and built-in speakers; and underwater lights and a steaming “waterfall” turn on at the touch of a button. The stars wheeling over the black treetops at night are as thrilling as any blockbuster. Listen closely and you might hear owls out on the hunt. In Jackson Hole, nature gives Hollywood a run for its money.
In front of the house, the possibilities roll on forever. Hiking, skiing, fishing, kayaking, snowshoeing, mountain biking, golf, horseback riding – everything is here, everything is within easy reach. You can hike into Grand Teton National
Park right from the property. Nearby, the town of Jackson is a hotspot for theatre, art, shopping, restaurants and nightlife. A home in
