My fiance and I had a great time spending the week at Henry's house. Of all the properties on Black Point, I believe it is by far the best place to stay. Having views of both the bay and the ocean from the house is really amazing, as well as your own private access to the beach in the back. The house is fully equipped with everything you could need, and having use of the golf cart is worth its weight in gold. It allowed us to go into town to buy groceries, go to the beach at the far end of the island (gorgeous!) and just explore in general. The gazebo and chairs are great for watching the sunset, and the beach out back is perfect for spending the day being lazy. However the shallow bay does drain of water at low tide, just something to keep in mind. This is a perfect place to go if you really want to isolate yourself from civilization, yet still have the comforts of home - i.e. wifi, directv, phone lines. We found the small shops in town to be sufficient for our needs for the week. Adderly's had a decent selection of meat, fish, and other food items for us to cook/grill out with, and beer and liquor is available at Scorpio's. We also had dinner at Lorraine's and Deshamon's, each of which was fabulous and I highly recommend. Two reasons I do not give a five-star review are: 1) Henry had told me beforehand that he would be able to arrange a bonefishing guide when in fact there are NONE in the surrounding area. His idea of a bonefish guide was someone riding in his boston whaler with me taking me to places I could fish...no shallow-water skiff, poling platform, etc. So if you are a flyfisherman looking to do some bonefishing I'd suggest staying in Georgetown. 2) If you take out Henry's boat, you have to pay Henry to use the boat ($150), then (unless you are somehow familiar with the area) you have to pay a guide ($200) to drive you around and you also have to put gas in the boat ($30-40). Altogether, a 4 hour tour of the cays, as gorgeous as they are, ended up costing us about $400 which I thought was a bit excessive. Regardless, it did little to detract from the fabulous week we had. Lorraine was also incredibly helpful, calling the airlines for us when our departing flight from flamingo was over two hours late. We were the only ones on the airstrip and I honestly thought they had forgot about us! But it finally showed up and we made our connection on time. Overall this is a beautiful place with friendly people...definitely recommended!
Owner response:the cost of the boat was $250 per day for that one day we rent the boat for $150 we took one hundred dollars off , I also told them that this would come with two tank of gan and when one is finishe they would have to leave the boat as it was full of gas. we are not responsible for the cost of a guide that price has notting to do with blackpointoceanvillas. we trie our best to help and we will never stop helpin. thanks to all

The previous reviews are what sold us on renting Henry's property and we now know why! We have traveled to almost everywhere in the Caribbean and have NEVER seen water this beautiful. The home is in a great location and well maintained. The golf cart that is provided is just perfect for going into the small town or exploring the island which is quiet, friendly and safe. Henry called to check on us often and the homes caretaker was always available as well. Anyone reading BlackPoint reviews will have definately heard of Lorraine's Cafe and her mothers homemade coconut bread which is just wonderful sligthly toasted with coffee in the morning while watching the sun rise! The Rum Punch is pretty good too! Definately rent Henry's boat and either take yourself or have a guide (there is always someone available) to see the swimming pigs, iguanas and Thunderball Grotto as well as the other side of BlackPoint where there are gorgeous unspoiled beaches!! We did bring a cooler with frozen meats which with the cost of grocery items turned out to be well worth it! We enjoyed our trip tremendously and found everyone most accomodating. If you are looking for a laid back relaxing vacation with beautiful water and no crowds - this is the place for you! Thank you Henry, Lorraine, Santos, Marco, Raymond & of course BJ for everything - we loved your island!

We travelled to Black Point with our friends - four adults and four kids- and rented both sides of the Villa. Everybody enjoyed themselves. The beach and cabana were great and at low tide, there had to be five acres of beach with loads of sand dollars for the kids to find. The kitchens are well equipped and we brought in a cooler of meat and a bag of munchies. We picked up anything else we needed at Adderly's or Scorpio's. We ate out at Lorraine's, Deschamon's and Scorpio's and really enjoyed all of the meals. Raymond took us out one day to see the pigs, iguanas, Thunder Ball and the Land and Sea Park. He also organized for us to go out fishing with his guide, FatCat, which was another great day on the water. Henry was very accommodating and touched base with us regularly. We haven't had better service at high-end hotels! We are all looking forward to coming back.

My husband, myself and our 17 month old spent a week in half of the villa while our friends rented the other half for the week. What a perfect setup for doing something like this! This is an IDEAL location to travel to with small children, as we felt so at peace being able to relax and just let our small children run the beach during low tide. We did not see another sole on the beach until the last day we were there. We did not have to worry about our children bothering anybody, anyone bothering them, or them getting hurt because they could run hundreds of yards during low tide in the soft sand. The island is wonderful for adults too, as we went snorkeling in different locations almost every day. We are hoping to return again next year. Henry was more than accommodating! When things did not go as planned or if any problems arose, he was right on top of it. Santos is very friendly and helpful, as were the neighboring families and townspeople. We also LOVED the service at the Missionary Church!

I'm still smiling from the wonderful vacation that we had last week. It's hard to imagine a relaxing vacation with a 2, 4 and 6 year-old and being 5 months pregnant, but it's possible in Black Point. We met my parents who are cruising the Bahamas for the season and enjoyed beach time, sand castles, sun fish sailing, snorkeling, shelling and fishing. We got to know the locals, including the lovely Reesa and Raymond, Mario on the dock, Lorriane, Lily at Adderley's and all of the wonderful ladies who spend their days plaiting and making delicious white, wheat, coconut and cinnamon raisin bread. All of us enjoyed driving the golf cart around the island and visiting the beautiful white sand beach near the developing marina. We rented a motor boat for the day and saw the pigs at Majors Spot and my 6 year old snorkeled Thunderball cave. We knew we were getting first class treatment when we just missed our plane from Nassau to Black Point and Flamingo Air sent us on our own private plane. That type of treatment continued when I realized that I forgot Desitin for my daughter and Henry had it shipped over from Ft. Lauderdale to Staniel Cay by plane and Staniel Cay to Black Point by boat. I would not hesitate to come back to Black Point. I love the turquoise blue water and no problem attitude of the Bahamas and Black Point was a special treat.
Owner response:this is the place to take off your shoes and relax and get some sand on your feet. once is not enough even twice you would not see all the spot . come and enjoy

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this villa with our two young children (ages 1 & 3). The house was bright and clean with a beautiful wrap-around porch that provided both shade and sun at all times of day. The private beach was just steps away from the house and had crystal clear water that was shallow and calm -perfect for young children. We spent our time swimming, playing on the beaches, hanging in and around the house and exploring the island by golf cart. The island is small and quiet and the perfect place to meet and chat with the friendly locals. Henry was the perfect host and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and memorable. Before we arrived, he inquired to see if we needed a crib and then ordered one for our baby. During our stay, he checked in with us often and always responded immediately to our inquiries. He arranged a boat rental and guide for us and when we stopped over in Nassau on our way home, Henry picked us up from the airport and gave us a tour of the city before dropping us off at our hotel. Food and personal care product availability is limited and so if you have young children, you might want to bring diapers & wipes, baby foods and favorite/specialty foods (only UHT milk was available when we were there), children's suncreen, bug spray, tylenol, etc., children's dishes & cutlery, sand toys and life jackets (if you're planning on boating). If you're looking for a true get-away-from it all holiday in a stunning place, then don't hesitate to stay at Henry's villa!
Owner response:serving and service is what we love to do

All of the previous reviews were right on point. Henry was most accomodating. We talked frequently as he is not on the island. We went over the Christmas Holidays when most people on the island are back in Nassau for Junkanoo. If you do go at this time, call Lorraine's (restaurant) and Scorpio's (bar with food)and Adderly's (grocery) to see if they will be open. Luckily they were. Henry sent grocery's over on the afternoon flight our first day just to be sure. The store was a little bare because the mail boat had not been there, but it had plenty. We took some steaks, a giant log of summer sausage, a giant pack of precooked bacon, crackers, snacks, a few vegetables, cheese and peanut butter. There are a bunch of spices in the cupboards. Make sure to take a reusable bottle to fill with water (there is a water cooler) to lug with you and bring your beach towels and snorkel gear. There was plenty of frozen meat at the store and fresh fish, etc. when there are people on the island. We rented Henry's boat one day and took it up to Staniel and snorkeled thunderball cave and other spots, saw the swimming pigs. Make sure to take advantage of the golf carts and explore every inch of the island. We enjoyed going to the beaches on the Atlantic side and checking out what washed ashore and shelling and finding seaglass. Scorpio's has a happy hour and home owners and boaters come in to enjoy some company. Scorpio's will sell you beer by the case. Lorraine's has great conch sandwiches and fries and her mom makes fantastic fresh coconut bread you can buy by the loaf. Flamingo air has a 35lb weight limit. We easily packed in two bags (for three of us) and could have brought a cooler. Take some laundry detergent as there is a washer and dryer. No need to pack much. The sunsets were amazing and we had a very relaxing and calm, enjoyable vacation. We normally never go to the same place twice but I hope to come back here. They all take us dollars and mast. and visa at Scorpios. All I can say...and have been saying for the last two weeks. I WANT TO GO BACK!!!! This was the best. vacation! All the previous reviews have said it all. Lunch at Lorraine's for fresh caught conch was wonderful. Lorraine cookedChristmas dinner of turkey, ham, dolphin, lobster with all the trimmings, for us and a handful of boat people. If you go, be sure to get a loaf of Lorraine's Mama's coconut bread. Yum! Henry was very attentive as was Santo's his caretaker.
Owner response:the christmas time on the island is nice and quiet you could have this island for your self. come and enjoy

Paradise Found on Great Guana Cay

If you think paradise is lost, think again, because we found it at Henry’s Villa on Great Guana Cay! We have traveled all over the world, and our vacation here truly ranks near the top. To say it was epic is an understatement. We spent 10 days on the cay, and every moment was extraordinary! We explored over 10 beaches/cays and not once, not ONCE, did we see another human being. We played endlessly in the surf, snorkeled among tropical fish, star-gazed at the spectacular sky, kite-boarded on the most amazing turquoise blue waters, and explored every inch of the island. We rented a boat from Henry, which we HIGHLY recommend. With some navigational help from Henry’s GPS (ask him about this), we boated to countless uninhabited cays. We dropped anchor on deserted beaches, swimming and lounging (it’s so shallow in many places, you can simply sit in the surf and enjoy a tasty beverage) under the Bahamian sun. Words cannot accurately describe how beautiful this place is! The day before we rented Henry’s boat, we hired Doughboy to take us on his boat so we could get acquainted with the cays. His captain treated us to some amazing sites – the Grotto (an open cave you snorkel to), two cays with huge Iguana you can feed, a cay with swimming pigs, and a visit to an underwater plane wreck. What a special day! The Villa itself is absolutely perfect –the wrap around porch provides unbelievable views of both the calm bay on one side and the roaring ocean on the other. The Villa is extremely clean, bright, and well appointed for cooking meals. On the advice of others, we flew in a soft-sided cooler with all our meats, cheeses, sauces, etc. I also packed a duffle bag with all our dry goods, so we cooked all meals except one at the Villa. We purchased beverages and some incidentals at Adderly’s, but be aware that prices can be steep since everything must be imported. Henry was the most helpful and gracious host – we spoke frequently on the phone and he assisted us cheerfully and quickly with any and all requests we had. He was just wonderful. If you want to fall in love all over again, come to Henry’s Villa on Great Guana Cay.

I have to agree with all the other reviews...I simply do not have words to describe this place, you MUST see it for yourself. I am not even sure where to begin. The house was beautiful. The porch wrapped around the entire house, with views of both the Atlantic and the Caribbean. Beaches on both sides were just a few steps from the house. The color of the water and the sand were amazing and cannot be described in words. I have never seen water so clear and so blue. The island itself was quiet and the locals were all very friendly and welcoming. We were very glad we stayed here rather than nearby and more crowded Staniel Cay. The included golf cart was great for getting around the island. Also included is satellite TV, wifi and free calls back to the U.S. The house itself was beautiful and very clean. Santos, the caretaker, was always a quick phone call away and he took care of everything we needed. He even brought us a can of gasoline for our boat when had been unable to fill up! (There is no gas station on Black Point, so if you rent a boat be careful...there is a gas station on Staniel Cay but they sometimes close a bit early apparently!) Unfortunately our vacation was cut short by Hurricane Irene. Luckily, there was no damage to the property and everyone on the island was able to stay safe. The owner Henry had been keeping an eye on the weather for us, and even made all of the arrangements for our evacuation for us. We did have insurance, and he has also been very helpful and prompt about getting all the paper work together we needed to file a claim. We were really disappointed but cannot wait to go back and make up for the time we lost there! I have never received this level of attention and care anywhere. Ever. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for a great place to spend your vacation.

My wife and I spent our last anniversary at Black Point Ocean Villa and it is going to be hard to beat. This place is amazing. Very private, comfortable, and the people of Black Point are so nice and welcoming. Henry was so helpful with getting everything ready for us, and he really cares that you have a special time at his rental. We loved getting to explore the island in the golf cart. It was unreal!! Every beach we went to was private. You must meet and go out on a boat tour of the keys with "breadboy" him and his wife are beyond kind and really made us feel at home. Breadboy took us on a tour on our anniversary - which is something we wouldn't normally do, and he made it so special, showing us things of beauty that we never could have imagined. It was perfect. Later in the week we rented jet skis from him and explored on our own which was one of the most beautiful happiest days we've ever had. This place is very special. Not for those who need the luxuries of a fine hotel or an island full of exotic restaurants. The house itself is very nice and comfortable, and has everything you would need. It has beautiful views of the ocean from both sides and from your bed. It's just amazing. If you like privacy and a very slow paced vacation, this is the place for you. We loved this rental and island. I really don't know how we will ever beat this anniversary trip. Just amazing.
