Lake Rabun house description
In 1838, the United States Army rounded up the Cherokee Indians who were living in Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, and Alabama. Mounted soldiers, using their bayonets as prods, herded the Cherokee like cattle. No better symbol exists of the pain and suffering of this “trail of tears” than the Cherokee Rose. The mothers of the Cherokee grieved so much that the chiefs prayed for a sign to lift the mother's spirits and give them strength to care for their children. From that day forward, a beautiful new flower, a rose, grew wherever a mother's tear fell to the ground. The rose is white, for the mother's tears. It has a gold center, for the gold taken from the Cherokee lands, and seven leaves on each stem that represent the seven Cherokee clans that made the journey. To this day, the Cherokee Rose prospers along the route of the 'Trail of Tears'. We invite you to our home to see examples of the Cherokee rose and other important Cherokee symbols which were hand-painted in the beams of our great room; forever recording this moment in history.
Our home is the perfect family vacation place. Pack your bathing suit, shorts and sunscreen and get ready for a rendezvous with nature. You can hike up the local waterfalls, kayak or canoe to the many coves and hunt for salamanders and tadpoles. Bring your fishing gear and discover what a great fisherman you are. Enjoy the sun and outdoors from one of the 7 decks while you prepare the grill for a fabulous dinner. Or, maybe you feel like dining out at one of the award winning restaurants which are within a 20 minute drive. Whatever you wish, the options are endless with a Lake Rabun vacation at the Cherokee Rose......

Great family getaway!
Great family getaway!
We stayed in Cherokee Rose over Labor Day weekend and had a fabulous time!! Miriam was so easy to work with, she responded to all our questions quickly!! The house was wonderful - probably one of the most well stocked Rental house kitchens I have been to - lots of supplies - spices, paper towels, dish soap, sharp knives, pots, pans, coffee filters, platters, bowls etc! The house was very clean! The view out the floor to ceiling windows in the den was gorgeous! The kids enjoyed the spacious basement with their own TV which included a Wii and games!!! We spent most of our time on the Boathouse. We enjoyed their Kayak and Canoe and there were several water toys for us to enjoy! We look forward to staying in Cherokee Rose again!!! Thanks Miriam for everything!!!!

This was a wonderful house! I am a part-time Lakemont resident and rented this house to entertain a group of friends for a Fall weekend. The house was plenty big for six of us, though the Living Room could use one more comfortable chair. Other than that minor item, it was all good. The house was clean, well kept, and well appointed. All beds were very comfortable with nice Linens. The Owner was extremely courteous and easy to work with. We will definetely stay here again with family and friends.

We had so much fun!!
We had so much fun!!
We rented Cherokee Rose over Memorial Day and the we were so sad to leave! We had my a group of 7 and the house was big enough for all of us- with plenty of room to spare. The Troutman family were excellent hosts- even leaving us a note and bottle of wine! They even called to check on us! The house is in immaculate condition and the boat house is divine. I sat there most of the day looking at the mountains and reading a book. My husband and his brothers had a great time jumping from the boat house into the water and relaxing on the floats. It was so relaxing to come up from the boat house at the end of day, starving and tired from the sun, to a full kitchen. We prepared great meals and had everything we needed! Thank you Steve and Miriam for being so gracious. We loved your house and can't wait to get back!

My family and I rented Cherokee Rose for Labor Day weekend. We had 2 adults and 7 children total, and the house exceeded our expectations in every way. The incredibly spectacular views of the lake from every room (and deck) gave everyone a happy, peaceful, serene feeling all weekend. As we cruised around the lake, we realized that Cherokee Rose has arguably the best views of any house on Lake Rabun. Immaculate and beautifully decorated with every amenity, including high-end appliances and furnishings. The boat house and dock are perfect for sunning, swimming, canoeing, kayaking or boating. The owners Steve and Miriam went out of their way to insure we had a great time, even checking the house personally just before we arrived. Miriam attended to every possible detail ahead of time so that we wouldn't have to. Renting Cherokee Rose was truly an enjoyable experience in every way, and we will be back, hopefully for longer next time!

About the owner: We live in Atlanta and have an easy commute to our lake home! We come here as often as possible and enjoy every moment.
Why the Owner Chose Lake Rabun:
My parents built a home here on the lake almost 30 years ago. We purchased our home so we could be closer to them and so that our children could enjoy the same experiences which I have had over the last 3 decades.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
A perfect day on Lake Rabun: Wake-up at 8:00, drink coffee on one of the decks and watch the early boaters. Take a nature walk. Pack a picnic lunch. Put on your bathing suit. Go down to the water.
