Once you enter the gate, you will drive over 1 mile to get to the cottage. Views of Old Rag from the front field are spectacular. The stocked 3 acre pond comes complete with a small row boat, so try your luck and fish for blue gills and large mouth bass (catch and release). Fishing rods are available for your use. You will pass hiking trails and steams before spying the cottage, nestled in a clearing in the woods. It is cozy, clean and charming. The master bedroom and bathroom is upstairs, along with a washer and dryer. On the main floor you'll find the second bedroom with 2 single beds and another full bath. The family rooms has comfy seating to watch the flatscreen TV (digital antenea channels) and an i-pod dock. The adjacent kitchen is brand new, with bar seating for 4. A wrap around open deck and a fire pit in the front yard completes the cottage.

Explore all 215 acres. Hike to the 1/2 mile stretch of the Hughes River to fish for rainbow trout. Bring your mountain bikes and explore our trails or just sit back and enjoy the beautiful scenery and numerous wildlife. At night, sit on the front porch or at the fire pit and marvel at the stars.

We're located just off Virginia's Route 231, one of America's ten most outstanding scenic byways, and back up to Shenandoah National Park. For hikers, Old Rag trail head parking lot is just 2 miles away. White Oak Canyon trailhead is just 15 minutes by car.
Ready to do something more?. Wine tasking is just minutes away at Sharp Rock Vineyard. Great restaurants, shopping and antiquing can be found in Sperryville, Va., a quick 15 minute drive. Or head to Madison, VA (20 minutes south) , and check out the many outstanding wineries, cheese factories, historic sites, civil war battlefield, nearby shopping and restaurant there.

Only one hour away is Luray caverns, historic Monticello and the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

As you can tell, there is much do to with LOTS of privacy at Maggie's Cottage.
We hope you will enjoy this beautiful part of Virginia as much as we do.

Everything about this property was perfect from the long driveway that took you back to being secluded to the utter quietness of the country. Enjoyed the weekend making a fire in the firepit and cooking out on the grill. The house was in excellent condition planning on staying there again in the very near future.

I would recommend this property to a friend. The owner and farm manager were great. The listing was accurate in all details.

If a true get-away is what you're looking for, Maggie's Cottage is a great find. The house is impeccably clean. The property is enormous and completely private. You simply cannot find this place on accident! Though there are no mountain views from the house, the location is superb if you like to feel like you have an old farm estate all to yourself, and if you are interested in the National Park nearby or more specifically in climbing Old Rag. Or if you just want to unplug and walk the expansive property. The owners have done a fantastic job of completely renovating an old home and it presents itself now as new. The porch is a great place to take advantage of the unadulterated views of the night sky that you will enjoy there. My only drawback was being unable to have a cell signal to reach our children :( We had to drive some distance to call them, then give them the number to the land line at the house so that they could reach us. It is good to have a local land line in such a remote place!

Upon arriving, you immediatley have a sense of tranquil. The setting is very private and serene, just what we wanted. The cottage is very clean, spotless I might add. Beds are comfortable. Very nicely decorated with everything you need. Kitchen is well stocked. I haven't seen a starry sky like that since I was young. Although I wasn't there long enough to utilize all that was offered, I know I will return. The Healy's were great to work with and were quick to satisfy some special scheduling requests. To summerize, if you are looking for quiet, solitude, or just a nature experience, Maggie's cottage is perfect.

We stayed here over the first weekend in October and we really had an amazing experience. The pictures don't really do justice to how special this house is. It's on tons and tons of acres, with a long private drive, a private pond and several hiking trails. However, it's walking distance to the Sharp Rock Vineyard and only a mile or so from the entrance to Old Rag Mountain. The town is about 15 minutes away where you can buy groceries or go to a restaurant. Our group was 4 people and the house was just the right size. It's only 2 BR and 2 BA, so it's not huge, but it's definitely comfortable for 2-4 people. It was just renovated and everything was very clean and shiny. Also, one bedroom is upstairs with its' own bathroom on that floor so it doesn't feel like everyone is cramped into one part of the house. We got there on Friday night around 10 PM after leaving work. The drive is about an hour and 45 minutes from DC or just 30 minutes from Charlottesville. We went to bed early because we got up around 7 AM to get an early start on Old Rag. The house is in a great location for the hike because the trail gets really, really crowded and you want to get there early. It only took about 5 minutes to get to the trail head from the house, if that. Old Rag was challenging and the views were awesome. It took us around 6 hrs to finish. We came back around 2 to shower and then went to the vineyard. They were having a festival with wine tastings and a live band, so we got a few bottles and hung out, and walked around the grape vines. After the festival we cooked a big dinner at the house and then had a large bonfire in the fire pit. The next morning we went hiking around the grounds of the house and caught some big fish in the pond (which we threw back). We lounged for a while on the deck before making the drive back to DC after lunch. All in all, a great weekend and I would definitely go back.

We had a very nice four day stay at Maggie's Cottage. The cottage is very comfortable and clean. Everything looks new. We hiked both the Old Rag and the WhiteOak Canyon Trails, both of which are very near the cottage. Luray Caverns is also nearby, so we toured the Caverns one day and had lunch in Luray. We had fun fishing at the pond on the property and caught lots of Bass with the fishing equipment provided by the owners. The Sharp Rock Winery is right next door, but it seems to only be open for tours and tasting on the weekends. We were able to purchase several bottles after chatting with the owner. Our stay at Maggie's cottage was very enjoyable and we recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to get away and relax.

We spent the past five days at Maggies cottage. We have travelled around the world and stayed in many five star hotels but I have never before taken the time to write a review. Before choosing Maggies cottage I spent a lot of time reviewing various options but was very fortunate to choose this one. Vicki was so helpful when I called (less than 48 hours before we were due to arrive). When we got there her local representative was waiting at the end of the road for us despite us being MUCH later that we suggested. Mark showed us around and despite the fact that I've worked in real estate for over 30 years I thought the property was very recently constructed. In fact it was built in 1903 and recently renovated. It had the charm of an old cottage but looks brand new, spotlessly clean and beautiful (they only started renting in the last month and we were the third set of renters). All of the things the previous reviewer said were true-and much more.We were lucky enough to stay longer so we got to experience many more of the benefits of Maggies cottage. In the evenings it was so gorgeous to sit on the deck with a bottle of wine purchased from our next door neighbour (Sharp Rock vineyard) watching the fire flies light up the front garden. I had so much fun watching my boyfried run around trying to catch as many as he could in a jar. I think his record was fifteen. The next morning as we were about to step of the front porch to walk to the pond we stopped in our tracks. Hey!!! We are from Glasgow, Scotland!! We are not accustomed to seeing black bears in our front yard!! Anyway after a quick call to Mark's wife we were reassured that "Yogi" and his friends were more scared of us that we were of them. They even let us eat as many berries as we could handle. Sitting in a boat on our own pond watching the Muscrats swim by was also an unusual but welcome experience for a couple of Glasgewians. The only downside with Maggies cottage was that with 215 acres of our own to explore ( Oh yes and a vineyard next door-- oops that's the Glaswegian talking again) we never got around to exploring the Shenandoah Mountains. Well maybe we will just have to go back again. Vicki, thank you so much your place is awesome (glasgow equivalent is "pure , dead, brilliant) and anyone who stays there must surely love it. Very best wishes and please pass on our thanks to Mark he was just like a lovely big teddy bear, Margaret and Ranny

We spent last Saturday night at Maggie's cottage and had a wonderful time. Our two children (3 and 6) romped on the front lawn and we all loved walking up the road, eating rasberries from the profusion of bushes, picking wildflowers, and watching the fish in the pond. The house is brand new inside with everything you could want and you could not possibly be more secluded. The only negative (and it was minor for us) is that there is no actual view from the cottage. Thank you Vicki!
