Barrington house description
French Country Farm House
Ryder Cup Fans! We still have availability for the 2012 Cup, end of September through the first week of October. We are located 30 minutes from Medinah Country Club in beautiful Barrington.
This 1893 Historical plaqued Farm House is located in the Village of Barrington known for its' vintage homes and charming downtown. It is walking distance from shopping, dining, a movie theatre as well as the Metra Commuter Train that can take you to downtown Chicago in 30 minutes. It is also less than an hour drive from Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Sitting prominently up on a hill this home offers an intimate and private retreat. The simple front exterior was maintained to stay true to it's historical past but don't let it fool you, the true beauty of this home is reflected from the rear view and the 2800 square foot interior. The side porch facing west creates a sunny spot to enjoy in the warmer months and a great place to have refreshments or dine. The fenced in, southern exposed back yard with a flagstone patio, English style gardens and trickling fountain is a wonderful area to unwind, dine and cook on the Viking grill. The sunroom connects through a set of French doors to become an extension of the patio and garden. It holds a French farm table that seats 12 and a wood burning Vermont stove that offers warmth in the cooler months.
The kitchen is a chef’s dream fully equipped with a Viking stove and refrigerator, Fisher Paykal dish drawers, a wine refrigerator and a hand drawn dumb waiter. The adjoining dining room, living room and family room are filled with antiques, warm colors and vintage posters. These are inviting rooms to curl up and read a good book, linger over dinner or watch a movie. The staircase leading to the second floor has a window that fills the kitchen with light in the afternoon and leads to a long hallway that separates the master suite from the 2 guest rooms. The master bathroom offers the best shower you will ever take with the Pearl Mist Steam Shower, soaking tub, back jets, hand held shower and rain shower all in the same unit. The adjoining master bedroom is decorated with treasures from trips to Italy and has a gas burning Vermont stove, a chaise lounge and a television for watching your favorite movies. Use the dumb waiter to carry up an evening snack or breakfast in bed. The second floor also has an open office space lined with books and has a computer with access to the internet.

Stayed here over the Labor Day weekend for a family wedding. There is no way to describe how well maintained and functional this house was. From the croissants and wine left for us (we went to that bakery every day we were there) to the amazing design inside, this was an excellent place to stay. The owner left little notes as guides on how to use the amenities, which really helped during our time there. The house is such a combination of the old and new and is very, very comfortable to stay in. Barrington is such a neat town and the food at the local restaurants was beyond good. We will definitely stay here again if in the Chicago area.

The house was exactly as described, impeccable in every way! We loved it and we felt as if we were at home. Clean, bright and welcoming this home had everything we could have possibly needed and definitely a winner in our books. I took a moment to speak to our host who was very accomodating and took the extra time to make sure we had everything we needed. We will stay there again if we are in the area and for anyone looking for accomodations in the Chicago area this is the place to stay! Very easy to navigate around the area, roads are clearly marked and it also isn't that far from the city. We definitly enjoyed our stay and recommend this home to everyone.

Owner response: Nothing makes us happier than to bring families together! Our goal is always to make our tennants as comfortable as possible in a warm and inviting way. Glad you enjoyed it.
We moved from the Algonquin/Crystal Lake area over 15 years ago. We go back for family functions on occasion but always felt we were imposing by staying at someone's home. We found this home available and rented it the end of September 2011 for a nephews wedding. The wedding was in Algonquin so the location was perfect for us. When we arrived we were all extremely surprised with regards to how lovely this home is and the attention to detail in the furnishings. The kitchen (with every conceivable appliance/utensil) and the master bathroom are state of the art. There were 4 adults and my 8 month old grandson with us. We 'lived' in the kitchen and sunporch when we were there. We could walk for breakfast to the Canteen restaurant down the street. We even lucked out with a parade on Saturday morning that my grandson thoroughly enjoyed. I would rate this home an A and my only criticism would be the 3rd bedroom---I would prefer a regular bed (even if it had to be a twin) as opposed to the day bed with the canopy, looks nice but is definitely not functional. The owners have an office over the detached garage but they did not impose whatsoever. I actually did not mind their presence just in case there were any issues---which there weren't. They are kind and generous people to open up this beautiful home to basic 'strangers'--not sure I could if it was mine. When we go 'back home' again we will definitely want to stay here.

2011 Summer Visit
2011 Summer Visit
We were in town for four weeks for business and to visit with Family and Friends. The French Country Farm House worked out great. The house is enchanting and very well taken care of. The patio and garden are beautiful and the porch is an excellent spot to relax and enjoy a cocktail or two!. The location couldn't have been better; minutes from the train and easy access to I-90. The French Country Farm House was truly a home away from home.

Though you might think the photos for this property are alluring, they do not do it justice. The home is just fantastic, and yet you do not feel overwhelmed. Very comfortable and very relaxing. Convemient to all of Chicago's attractions. When we arrived we were greeted by soft music and pastries. Our stay was as if we were at home in the trappings of a woderfully decorated, roomy, and hospitable retreat. When we travel we only utilize VRBO and have stayed in some truly wonderful residences. This was by far the best,

Owner response: Attention to detail is very important to us so we are glad that it is appreciated. Thank you for such a nice review.
The owners were very accomodating and helpful. They take wonderful care of their home and taking care of the needs of those who will be staying in their lovely home. The location was fantastic, we could park our car and walk to town for just about anything. The pictures and description do not do the house enough justice. Thank you Celeste and Michael for letting us stay in your lovely home.

Can't wait to do it again!
Can't wait to do it again!
A few of my friends and I decided it was time for a girls only weekend away. We decided to rent a house instead of getting a hotel room for the obvious reasons: price, much more room, full kitchen, all the comforts of home, etc. After seeing the pictures of the French County Farmhouse and reading the description, it was the obvious choice. I contacted Celeste, the owner, and everything just fell into place. She was very professional, answered all of my questions, and responded very quickly to every email or phone call. We were VERY impressed with the home when we arrived. The pictures had looked great on the internet, but in person, it was stunning. It was beautifully decorated, exceptionally clean, and extremely comfortable. We're making this a yearly retreat. We've decided that any other place we could go would just be disappointing after staying here, and no other place will do. We can't wait for next year!

We (my sister, her 1-year-old daughter, and myself) were traveling to the area for a family wedding and I was torn between the commute from the city (where I knew we could stay in a fantastic place) and sacrificing comfort for convenience.. until I found this property. Everything was appointed and welcoming- it was perfect for our visit. Considering the location and accommodations.. for the price, this place is a STEAL! I've never seen someone take so much care when sharing their home. Thank you for everything!
