Stayed here over the Labor Day weekend for a family wedding. There is no way to describe how well maintained and functional this house was. From the croissants and wine left for us (we went to that bakery every day we were there) to the amazing design inside, this was an excellent place to stay. The owner left little notes as guides on how to use the amenities, which really helped during our time there. The house is such a combination of the old and new and is very, very comfortable to stay in. Barrington is such a neat town and the food at the local restaurants was beyond good. We will definitely stay here again if in the Chicago area.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The house was exactly as described, impeccable in every way! We loved it and we felt as if we were at home. Clean, bright and welcoming this home had everything we could have possibly needed and definitely a winner in our books. I took a moment to speak to our host who was very accomodating and took the extra time to make sure we had everything we needed. We will stay there again if we are in the area and for anyone looking for accomodations in the Chicago area this is the place to stay! Very easy to navigate around the area, roads are clearly marked and it also isn't that far from the city. We definitly enjoyed our stay and recommend this home to everyone.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Nothing makes us happier than to bring families together! Our goal is always to make our tennants as comfortable as possible in a warm and inviting way. Glad you enjoyed it.

We moved from the Algonquin/Crystal Lake area over 15 years ago. We go back for family functions on occasion but always felt we were imposing by staying at someone's home. We found this home available and rented it the end of September 2011 for a nephews wedding. The wedding was in Algonquin so the location was perfect for us. When we arrived we were all extremely surprised with regards to how lovely this home is and the attention to detail in the furnishings. The kitchen (with every conceivable appliance/utensil) and the master bathroom are state of the art. There were 4 adults and my 8 month old grandson with us. We 'lived' in the kitchen and sunporch when we were there. We could walk for breakfast to the Canteen restaurant down the street. We even lucked out with a parade on Saturday morning that my grandson thoroughly enjoyed. I would rate this home an A and my only criticism would be the 3rd bedroom---I would prefer a regular bed (even if it had to be a twin) as opposed to the day bed with the canopy, looks nice but is definitely not functional. The owners have an office over the detached garage but they did not impose whatsoever. I actually did not mind their presence just in case there were any issues---which there weren't. They are kind and generous people to open up this beautiful home to basic 'strangers'--not sure I could if it was mine. When we go 'back home' again we will definitely want to stay here.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Though you might think the photos for this property are alluring, they do not do it justice. The home is just fantastic, and yet you do not feel overwhelmed. Very comfortable and very relaxing. Convemient to all of Chicago's attractions. When we arrived we were greeted by soft music and pastries. Our stay was as if we were at home in the trappings of a woderfully decorated, roomy, and hospitable retreat. When we travel we only utilize VRBO and have stayed in some truly wonderful residences. This was by far the best,Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Attention to detail is very important to us so we are glad that it is appreciated. Thank you for such a nice review.

We were in town for four weeks for business and to visit with Family and Friends. The French Country Farm House worked out great. The house is enchanting and very well taken care of. The patio and garden are beautiful and the porch is an excellent spot to relax and enjoy a cocktail or two!. The location couldn't have been better; minutes from the train and easy access to I-90. The French Country Farm House was truly a home away from home.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The owners were very accomodating and helpful. They take wonderful care of their home and taking care of the needs of those who will be staying in their lovely home. The location was fantastic, we could park our car and walk to town for just about anything. The pictures and description do not do the house enough justice. Thank you Celeste and Michael for letting us stay in your lovely home.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

A few of my friends and I decided it was time for a girls only weekend away. We decided to rent a house instead of getting a hotel room for the obvious reasons: price, much more room, full kitchen, all the comforts of home, etc. After seeing the pictures of the French County Farmhouse and reading the description, it was the obvious choice. I contacted Celeste, the owner, and everything just fell into place. She was very professional, answered all of my questions, and responded very quickly to every email or phone call. We were VERY impressed with the home when we arrived. The pictures had looked great on the internet, but in person, it was stunning. It was beautifully decorated, exceptionally clean, and extremely comfortable. We're making this a yearly retreat. We've decided that any other place we could go would just be disappointing after staying here, and no other place will do. We can't wait for next year!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway.

We (my sister, her 1-year-old daughter, and myself) were traveling to the area for a family wedding and I was torn between the commute from the city (where I knew we could stay in a fantastic place) and sacrificing comfort for convenience.. until I found this property. Everything was appointed and welcoming- it was perfect for our visit. Considering the location and accommodations.. for the price, this place is a STEAL! I've never seen someone take so much care when sharing their home. Thank you for everything!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My wife, son and sister had business reasons to be in the Chicago area for an extended stay. This wonderful French Country Farm House was a fantasy compared to a hotel. Exquisite decor, chefs kitchen and a luxurious master suite and bath. You could walk to the downtown area. Barrington itself is a great walking town with many homes of architectural interest. All in all a great place to spend time.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

Summering in the Chicago area can be wet/rainy/cold or sunny/dry/hot. We spent a record hot July in this comfortable French country house in the northwest suburb of Chicago. What a pleasant atmosphere provided by our hosts who even took time to feed and pay attention to our two dogs when we took a drive to Michigan. Of course we found other attractions like the Arlington Park Race track, the Arboretum mall, and in town restaurants either a short car/train ride or walk. The owners maintain the property and attend to all requests. Beyond the usual gracious atomosphere I found the owners extending & providing genuine warmth and a haven for rest & relaxation. We know that our stay also began a friendship that will last for a long time.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Even though we expected the house to be very nice, it exceeded our expectations and made a great first impression. The extras we found upon our arrival really made a difference after 7 hours in the car...wine, dessert, chilled bottled water, music playing, good air conditioning, clean everything, and butterflies and gold finches in the garden. We felt welcome. We enjoyed the gourmet kitchen the most, and the extra-large table when we entertained 9 people for dinner. We only wish we had more time to explore the area. Barrington was really lovely. We will have to stay longer next time, and leave the kids at home. We highly recommend this home away from home. The Reds vs. Cubs at Wrigley is a good reason for a long weekend in Chicago.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This home was designed for relaxed living. There are many places to lounge, read and relax. The beds are comfortable, everything is very clean, there was plenty of hot water and it was a delightful surprise to find the laundry on the second floor near the bedrooms and not in the basement. The large covered porch is an excellent place for lunching or sipping a glass of wine in the evening. The flagstone patio overlooks a beautiful flower garden, complete with a tranquil fountain. It is a wonderful place to enjoy morning coffee and ease into your day. With lots of cozy comfortable sitting areas, there is always a space available to curl up with a good book, no matter how many people are in your traveling party. The photos don't do this home justice with its gentle blend of European influenced decor, quiet tranquility and modern amenities. If you want to get out of the city without the long road trip, I highly recommend this lovely spot.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
