From the moment we walked into the door we were in love! Breathtaking views, beautifully furnished and decorated. I just wanted to move in on the spot! :) It looked just like the pictures, very clean and well taken care of. The kids had a BLAST fishing off the dock and feeding the Pelicans and Herons. Could not have asked for a better view of the gorgeous sunsets! We even saw a couple of Dolphins! Loni was very accommodating and SO sweet! We will DEFINITELY be returning! Thanks so much guys!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

My family and I had a great vacation and experience renting Captains Quarters. The house was very clean and comfortable. I liked the house more in person than from the pictures on the website. There is plenty of room and all the bedroom are perfect for a beach vacation The owner was super nice and accommodating. My favorite thing about the house is the location. We left the door open almost the entire time because there was always a great breeze coming from the sound. The view is amazing and the sunsets were beautiful. It right across from the beach so you can have the bay and the beach. While staying here we fished, crabbed and swam from the pier. We also swam, fished and went for long walks on the beach. We ate the yummiest pastries from the bakery and chartered a fishing trip with Steve O at Mobay charters. We have never done that and can't wait to do it again. My kids parasailed and hung out at the marina a little bit. We rode our bikes and really just enjoyed being together. I always think of the island as not having much to do but there is tons of fun to be had.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

This property was more than we expected. It was wonderful! Just what my family needed. My 8 year old grandson caught 20 fish off the pier and he couldn't have been happier. My husband would get up before 5 am every morning and he would be out on the pier fishing and that was the last thing he would do before going to bed. You can fish all day we would catch flounder and trout at 1:00 in the afternoon! The kitchen had everything needed to cook a full meal - we had 4 adults and 3 children and everyone had their own space. It was a perfect place and we look forward to coming back. Thank you for a wonderful time.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+.

What a great time we had at Captains Quarters. We have stayed in a lot of beach houses and this is our favorite. Much better than beach front. We fished most of the time and caught a lot of fish, mostly white trout. Our 6 year old grandson was up early every morning ready to spend the day on the pier. And the house, I can't say enough about how nice it is, just loved it all. We have lots of beautiful pictures to look at until we can make a return trip.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

My family spent the week recently in this lovely house. It was fully furnished with everything you need. My grandchildren couldn't get enough of the dock and fishing they practically lived there the entire week. I would recommend this house for anyone wanting to get away from the fast life. The evening sunsets were to die for, couldn't get enough of them. Although the beach was close by we spent most of the days fishing off the dock. We took the children to the nearby Sea Lab and they truely enjoyed that. This was our first vacation at Daulphin Island and can't wait to go back. I certainly can't think of anything negative to say. Loni was very sweet and let us know if there was anything we needed to call her day or night. We loved it.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Our family of 6 rented Captains Quarters from July 20-26th, 2011. The house was very clean and comfortable. We felt very much at home there. The pictures are very accurate and we were very happy with our dealings with the owners. Our kids especially enjoyed the deck and the water that was just out back of the home. We spent every evening there watching the beautiful sunsets and just enjoying our time together. We recommend this property and plan to go back in the future.Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Where should I begin? The house is exactly as it's pictured in the photos here. It's charming and clean and fully stocked with everything you need (minus your groceries). There is a TV with satellite and a DVD player. We were even able to bring our dog. The house is just three short blocks from the beach, and the fishing off the dock is great. Drinking coffee from the back porch and watching the magnificent sunsets from there is wonderful. The owners are fabulous and incredibly helpful if there are any issues that arise (though we had none to speak of). A final note if you've never been to Dauphin Island. It is a small island with no major stores, though there is a small store that has the essentials that you might forget to pack, along with fishing supplies, etc. I recommend you buy your groceries off the island (there is a store up the highway from the bridge). Also, if you plan on an active night life, this is not the place for you. But if you want to get away from it all on a nice beach without crowds to reconnect with your family, this is the place for you. Thanks for a great weekend, Keith and Loni!! Can't wait to come back!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We spent the weekend earlier this year and just returned from 9 glorious nights. Beautiful sunsets, spectacular fishing every day and a great place to entertain. Our family wanted to buy the place and stay forever. With the beach just across the road this home and location was everything we needed for a fantastic vacation. We caught a variety of fish and never got "skunked". We grilled steaks and fish on the deck and enjoyed our catch. The great blue heron stood guard over any fish we did not want and were happy to eat them up quickly. We left the Island happy and refreshed. The owners have taken such care of this lovely place we consider it a real privledge that they share it with us. There is ample room to sleep 8 comfortably and the large amount of deck space is perfect for gatherings in the evenings. There is plenty of light for entertaining and fishing outside at night. You will not find a better location or nicer home to enjoy for a vacation. We are looking at the calendar to plan our next stay.Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2001
About the owner: Local resident lived in this house for 10 years. Offshore supply boat Captain and local Real Estate Broker.
Why the Owner Chose Dauphin Island:
"Captains Quarters" was purchased as my primary residence 12 years ago and was never rented out until recently. I settled on Dauphin Island because it is the most "laid back", relaxing place I have ever found. The fishing is fantastic, the beaches are beautiful, golf on the Gulf, and the Sunsets are phenomenal!
The Unique Benefits at this Chalet:
Sunsets, sunsets, sunsets!!! Fishing and crabbing off the 36" pier. Swimming or shelling a 10 minute walk on the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. Scooter or jet ski rentals minutes away. Bike trails, best birding in the Southeast, Audubon Park, historic Fort Gains, 18 hole golf on the Gulf, Dauphin Island Sea Lab and Estuarium. The best offshore Red Snapper and sports fishing in the Gulf and inshore speckled trout, white trout, flounder, crabbing and red fishing on the private pier. Mobile Bay Ferry available for day trips to Fort Morgan or Gulf Shores. The casinos of Biloxi are 1 hour away and New Orleans a short 2.5 hours away.
