Lovely, clean, bright, quiet 3 BR rental house in Southwest Harbor's shore village of Manset. Fine views of Cadillac Mountain, Somes Sound and Southwest Harbor from sunny deck. Lots of windows for beautiful coastal light and air. Five minute bike ride to Seawall, Wonderland, Ship Harbor and Bass Harbor Light. House is set back 30 yards from the street and buffered by a dense line of arborvitae. Sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms; 2 rooms with a queen bed in each, one room with 2 twins- great for kids, with a rocking chair for story time. Good closets in all bedrooms. One full bathroom with fiberglass tub and shower, plus half bath in master bedroom.

Immense walk-out basement for all your sports gear. Furnished in a comfortable mix of new- sofa, easy chairs, deck furniture, all mattresses- and old- oak dressers, wicker chairs. Your rental stay includes all linens & kitchen gear, gas grill on the deck, washer & dryer, cable TV programming, wireless internet, 27 inch TV, DVD and CD, stereo. Flower boxes and planters all around.
Just a few words about the parking lot you see from the photo at rear of the house. It is a residents-only lot for Cranberry Isles people, and thus is not a busy or active lot. Islanders park, ride the passenger ferry, and return when they need their car for a trip to Ellsworth or Bangor. We are very sure you will not be aware of comings or goings. We were disappointed when it was built in 2003, but it was needed for the future of the off-shore islands. The big plus was that removing trees really opened up the views you'll have of the water and the hills.

About the owner: We have strong family ties to SW Harbor and the island. Great aunts worked as summer help in the "cottages" of Bar Harbor in the 40s. My wife's family spent summers in SWH starting in the 70s, the same time I was in college in Maine and making my first camping trips to the island. We bought our Bass Harbor house on our honeymoon in '85 and have had the good fortune to spend a lot of our summers there ever since. Our kids have now begun to bring their friends to MDI.
Why the Owner Chose Southwest Harbor: The great aunts I mentioned bought this house in the mid-70s. We enjoyed many fabulous visits and meals under their hospitality. We bought the house from them in 2000.
