We spent a fantastic time at Mark's Manset House last week. The house really felt like home away from home. It was so comfortable and had all the comforts of home, too. The view from the back of the house was absolutely gorgeous. I've never seen a night sky as beautiful as what can be seen from the deck. Right on the same road is Seawall. It is such a relaxing spot to watch the waves crash against the rock beach. Southwest Harbor was such a great place to stay, it's so quaint, but so convenient to all the attractions at Bar Harbor. Acadia was brilliant in all it's fall colors. A week was not enough time to see all there was to see in the area. We can't wait to go back for a visit again. Thanks, Mark, for your hospitality and for making our stay such a pleasurable one.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had such a great stay at the Manset house. We were fortunate that our well-behaved dog was able to be with us for the week, as well as our less well-behaved toddler. We had great weather and actually enjoyed being on the "quiet side" of the island. There was plenty of family activities to do including things that were not expensive. We had a wonderful view and enjoyed eating outside on the deck and watching the water as well as taking evening walks around the neighborhood. We hope to come again next year, with another little one in tow and maybe some grandparents too since their is plenty of room! We highly recommend this house to anyone looking for a peaceful, relaxing stay at a "home away from home." It truly has all you could want and more!Did you find this review helpful? Mark, hope you are back in the swing of things since summer seems to have come to a grinding halt. Again, thanks for helping us have a fabo vaca in Maine. I do not see the link for us to comment on the rental property yet - don't forget to forward that as well so I can give you glowing remarks. Stay well, D.Did you find this review helpful? Hi Mark, As we said we had a wonderful stay your Manset House. We were concerned about how our daughter in law and future daughter in law would think about it and everyone thought it was a great idea to make this an annual event, as we had hoped. We are considering your Manset House, mainly because we are hoping Andy & Erin will be able to stay the entire week. I will be in further contact regarding this. It was a plus to meet you in person and I am sure we will return to Manset House.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Hi Mark, Everything was wonderful with the house. We were sad to leave, although Bar Harbor brings a totally different feel to our trip. We did enjoy having the basement with the door for our bikes and the washing machine. The house was just the right size for two couples and it was very well equipped. Tracy just said it was the best vacation house we have ever rented.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay on Mount Desert Island. We had no idea what to expect and were all blown away each day at the beauty surrounding us through rock formations, mountains, plants and trees and harbor scenes. There was so much to look at we would be tired of looking by day's end. Acadia National Park has breathtaking views and in it we saw peregrin falcons, deer, birds, and chipmunks. We saw whales, seals, eagles, puffins, and many other birds on short boat excursions. Riding a schooner was fun watching the crew hoist the sails. Mark's home was a nice and comfortable place to unwind at the end of our busy days. It offers plenty of room to stretch out and a gorgeous view of mountains and a harbor from the back deck. It was peaceful to sit out there in the morning or evening. Everything was clean and fully furnished. His home has the perfect location to stay to fully experience this sensational area of Maine. Mark provides tips on trails and things to see near his home. Our stay could not have been better.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had an opportunity to stay at the Manset House Memorial Day Weekend. Our entire group was very pleased with the house, the house was clean, comfortable, and well equipped with the everything we could possibly need. This was our first time to Maine and the owner Mark was helpful providing us with list of recommendations for the area. He was very easy and friendly to work with. Thanks again Mark! We are looking forward to coming back to the Manset House for future vacations & would highly recommend to anyone else!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We have been visiting the Quietside for over 30 years and have stayed at a variety of wonderful homes...never more than once--until we stayed at the Sullivan's Manset house. I think that this year marked our 6th or 7th vacation there. We now think of it as our vacation home. It is just perfect for us. The house is just so comfortable and we love having coffee on the deck in the morning and drinks in the afternoon while watching the boats being hauled in at Hinckley's. Everything we need or want is there and always perfectly clean and in order. Mark is a wonderful host and is always available to respond to any questions. Well, now our secret is out...Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had a great time at this house. The house is only a short drive from the center of Southwest Harbor. Though we were familiar with Mt. Desert Island, Mark's suggestions came in handy all week. Our 2 1/2 year old daughter loved swimming at Echo Lake and hanging out at the Seawall. We took her on some great short hikes close by, too, including Flying Mountain, Ship Harbor, and Beech Mountain, all with tremendous views. You won't run out of things to do here. Great value for what we paid, and we hope to rent this house again in the future.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Clean, bright, spacious. The location is perfect for driving, walking, or picking up the free Island Explorer bus. The house has everything you need to have a great vacation. The view from the deck is fabulous for sitting with morning coffee or afternoon cocktails. The house has a homey feeling, and we fell in love with it immediately. Our stay at the Manset house was very enjoyable. We found the house to be very clean, bright and comfortable. We enjoyed many meals on the back deck while enjoying the beautiful view. Mark's list of things to do was most helpful also since we were not familiar with the area. It was a nice walk down to the harbor. We found it to be a nice location on the "quiet side" of the Island. The owner is very helpful and a pleasure to deal with.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, sightseeing.

Hi Mark, J and I wanted to thank you for an idyllic two weeks in your Manset house. We found the home to be exactly as advertised if not better--immaculate, cozy, comfortable, incredibly well sited with such a great deck and ocean view. We took full advantage of the new grill, the lobster pot, the washer/dryer, the reliable internet service, the standing fan, and the DVD. The only problem was having to leave at the end of our time! We definitely want to come back!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We recently spent a beautiful week at Manset House. This was our fourth time staying at the house in the past five years, and it was as wonderful as ever. The house sits on a hill overlooking Somes Sound and Southwest Harbor, and sitting on the deck, with the beautiful flowers and the ocean breeze is a dream come true. The house is well appointed with everyting we have ever needed, and what pleases us to no end is its cleanliness. Its proximity to the center of Southwest Harbor (about a 2 minute drive), and the ability to walk down to the Manset shore are also ideal. We hope to continue to stay at Manset House for years to come.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, sightseeing.
Owner response: It's very gratifying to read this review. We do our best to make every stay as good as it can possibly be. My thanks for the kind words.

Hi Mark. Thank you for another wonderful stay at your house. The house is just perfect for our family and we hope you continue to rent it for years to come. We enjoyed our visit to no end, as I am sure my mother told you. We spent the week doing some wonderful things that we hadn't before (the Lulu Lobster Boat, Eagle Lake with the oldest on his new 2-wheeler, Charlotte Rhodes Park picnic, and even Miniature Golf!). It is interesting to see how our activities have changed over the years!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My family and I really enjoyed our recent stay. The house is bright and roomy. It has a really cool retro feel like you've gone back in time to the 60's. The beds are really comfortable and the hot water never ran out. The views are incredible from the kitchen and back deck and after awhile you don't even notice the parking lot. The kids had a blast playing in the yard and the house is a short walk to Manset harbor with breath taking sunset views from the Cranberry Islands boat dock. A dishwasher and a gas grill - and we would never have to look for another place to stay while visiting Mt. Desert island again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children.

It is very close to conveniences of Bass and Southwest harbors, yet it is secluded, quiet, and private. Although it was a little too chilly to sit on the deck this October, the views of the mountains from the kitchen were enjoyable and we could even see the stars as we laid in bed. We enjoyed the entertainment system, internet connection, and games on hand, too. Mark's list of "off the beaten path" was kind of our scavenger hunt and each day we picked something new to find or do. The ferry to the Cranberries were just to convenient to pass up so we spent a day exploring the islands. (We liked Little Cranberry better.) When it was time to relax it wasn't TV that we turned to, it was the view of the harbor. Guestbook Comment Review Submitted: June 29, 2007 Date of Stay: June 2007 Five of us thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Manset in mid June 07. The house was exactly as advertised: comfortable, clean, private, and a great value. Located only a few minutes away from the shops and eateries of SW Harbor, it was the perfect home base on the quiet side of the island. Our teens loved the internet access and making s'mores on the grill. The kitchen was well stocked - we even enjoyed pancakes on the griddle several mornings. We found it restful to sit on the deck among Maureen's flowers and watch the harbor activity. The parking lot below always contained a few cars but we never noticed any coming and going of the cars' owners. Mark Sullivan, the owner, was very responsive to any concerns before, during, and after the rental. He contacted us briefly on the day of our arrival to make sure everything was ok for our stay. He promptly had an oscillating fan delivered to the house when I informed him one of our party was used to sleeping with a fan at home and had a tendency to feel hot at night despite the cool Maine breezes. The beds were very comfortable and my sister kept insisting the sheets had been ironed. I told her no way. However, when Maureen stopped by to introduce herself and check if we needed anything, my sister asked her about the sheets and sure enough Maureen said she was embarrassed to admit it but she still irons her sheets. I recommend the Manset house to others and would not hesitate to stay again. Bottom line - it is one of the best accommodation values on the island so rent with confidence. Owner's Response: Pamela's comments are extremely kind. I'm very glad she and her family enjoyed their stay so much.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Guestbook Comment Review Submitted: October 27, 2006 Date of Stay: October 2006 We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Manset House in October 2006. We love MDI and visit as often as possible. This was the first time we rented a house and would be comfortable coming here again. We appreciate the cleanliness and amenities provided. Thanks again Sullivans!Did you find this review helpful? Guestbook Comment Review Submitted: August 30, 2006 Date of Stay: August 2006 We had a fantastic week in Maine! The home was exactly as advertised--neat and clean, very roomy, and very well equipped. We loved the location--close to everything but away from the "tourists" in Bar Harbor. We enjoyed the beach at Echo Lake, rode the carriage trails on our bikes, hiked Beech Mt., and went for a glider ride at Trenton Airport. This rental is great if you are bringing bikes or kayaks--there is a large basement with garage door access to store your gear! We would return to this rental property.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Guestbook Comment Review Submitted: July 1, 2006 Date of Stay: July 2006 We had visited Acadia National Park two times, previously and had rented cottages both times. We were FAR more pleased with this rental! Very comfortable, felt just like home! Even our dog was welcome! Will definitely be back to stay again!Did you find this review helpful? This house is a comfortable home-away-from-home, with easy access to all of the MDI attractions but tucked away in a quiet, secluded town. We had lots of fun in Acadia and then were close to Southwest Harbor with its charming restaurants and shops. Our family had a wonderful visit!Did you find this review helpful? Great place, spacious with great light. We loved taking our dog for walks along the harbor, dinner on the deck. It's well-equipped, and the location is hard to beat--just down the road from XYZ and Wonderland, a short drive to Bernard. Just minutes from downtown SW Harbor, one of the nicer towns on the island, away from the touristy hubub of Bar Harbor. --Kathy and Anthony, NYCDid you find this review helpful? The house was great! Being able to bring my dog made vacation so much easier. The owners gave us a lot of very helpful tips on things to do and places to go. Being on the quiet side of the island was perfect...there is plenty to do and other half of the island is really not far. I highly recomend the entire experience!Did you find this review helpful? Beautiful views of the mountains, Southwest Harbor and the entry to Somes Sound (partially obstructed by parking lot, building; but with great the views of Greening Island, Cadilac Mtn, etc. - we hardly noticed). Home is comfortable, well-appointed, with a large, safe yard for the kids. Owners are actively involved, and very responsive. Our four-year-old has asked "when can we go back to our 'borrowed house' in Southwest Harbor?"Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
