Bath cottage description
This is a cozy cottage sitting directly on the shore of private Lake Gardner on top of Mount Gardner in Bath NH. Both a screened porch and an open deck provide fantastic views of the lake and surrounding mountain area. This is a private area that feels remote, but is not far from necessary shopping area and restaurants.
The upstairs bedroom has a queen bed, the downstairs has two singles and one fold down double bed. There is a sleep sofa in the living room as well.
Local attractions are Lost River caves, Williams Trading Post, the oldest general store in America, Six Gun City, Santa's Village, the Whales Tale water park, and the aerial tramway.
Hiking and just relaxing on our beautiful private lake are our favorite activities!

BIOHAZARD! Stay Away From This One!
BIOHAZARD! Stay Away From This One!
I am someone who has camped, backpacked, and stayed all over NH and never encountered anything like this. I am not afraid of somewhat rustic digs but this place is a health hazard that should be condemned. The first noticeable thing is the overwhelming odor of mold /mildew as you enter the building to the point of making you sick. I tried to open all the windows to air out the stench only to find many of the screens missing and windows non functioning. The real kicker here is that the "lake" is a swamp... weed infested full of silt and microbes with a secchi of less than 1 meter. And if that isn't enough of a turn off they have the audacity to use this swamp water for washing up leaving a film of black lord knows what on your dishes, food, body, pet. Needless to say we left post haste for safer more pleasant housing more akin to the beauty of the area. If you do rent this place leave your bathing suit at home and bring a gas mask and plan not to bathe for e week and you may do OK. My recommendation is rent one of the many available condos at Loon Mtn. for the same price as this nightmare and have clean and comfy vacation closer to all!

Owner response: Dear Tenant: Not to be suspicious, but on the 6th day of your one week rental, I received an email from you that I found very disturbing with no real details demanding a full refund or you would take, "further action." I guess we know what that further action entailed ! It is my policy always to refund a customer if upon arrival they notify me that they want a refund for any reason whatsoever. However, the full rental period minus one day had already elapsed . I really take exception your description of our lake and my cottage as this is my own personal place, which I maintain for my own personal use and it is thoroughly cleaned after each tenant leaves. The water for washing is filtered and not discolored in any way. Lake Gardner is a beautiful, private lake enjoyed by a private community of owners. The Lake Gardner Association is a member of the NH Dept. of Environmental Services Voluntary Lake Assessment Program. Several times a year they test the water and send it down to the State approved Lab for testing to assure its safe for swimming etc Anyone searching the web or reading the other reviews posted here can find information about the area and the lake from former tenants who have enjoyed our lake.. one of whom rented the week before you arrived. Sincerely, The Owner

We had a great stay at this lake house. We stayed with our 3 young children and they loved the quiet lake and big bedroom they could all sleep in. The lake was warm and calm for swimming and the porch had such a beautiful view for dinners outside. It was a great place to relax in between our days at Santa's Village and Story Land. Thanks.

Lake Gardner Cabin
Lake Gardner Cabin
My husband & I enjoyed our 2 week stay on Lake Gardner, the cabin was rustic but confortable, an upgrade of the living room furniture would be nice, only 1 local tv stations. The cabin was clean and well maintained. The fishing was great my husband throughly enjoyed catching small mouth bass, pickeral & perch right off the dock. Nice location for those looking for peace and quite.

My Quiet Place
Hi I have always wanted to stay in a rustic cabin with a screen porch overlooking a lake. After serching on Craigs List I found this place and it was what I was looking for. It is a simple cabin with two decent size bedrooms. It has a nice large claw foot tub for a good soak. There are some floaties and a aluminum row boat. The lake itself is very serene and warm to swim in. No motor boats! Very quiet and peaceful, especially nice to sit on the screen poarch and watch the moon come up over the water. I even saw a loon one morning. The living room and kichen are tiled in Mexican tile. You must bring your own sheets, towels and blankets which I like to do anyway cause I like my own stuff. It is really out of the way but only minutes to a little town with all you need and we took some great trips to through the White Mountain region, also close. It is simple and rustic which I like but if you need luxury, it may not be for you. The kitchen is fully equiped so no need to bring pots and pans. All in all, a good place to relax and get away from it all; lovely for swimming.

stayed less than a day ,BAD BAD we stay in NH every july for a week and some times longer. We've stayed in cottages ,cabins in the mountains by rivers .We have always loved our time in NH.Not this time we got there and the kids wanted to leave then. The cottage was not at all what we thought we were getting it smelled of mildew like an old musty oder no one wanted to even touch the beds .My neice had an asma attack. All my money was tied up in this place, but we left found a cottage in woodstock. My sister put more money in my account so we could stay the week at the cottage. Now I'm not even getting most of money back.dont think I'll use paypal again either could have really used my money.

Owner response: I am sorry you were so dissatisfied, and I did my best to address any issues you may have had. I did not find anything wrong with my beds, however, and if there was an odor when you checked in, my cleaning service could not detect it. In all fairness, I refunded half of your fee, there were a few issues with the garbage left and the plumbing that I had to repair after your stay. This is my own private cottage, and I do take pride in it. Sincerely, Jane

Just wanted to say thank you again! Gloria and i had a wonderful week in the mountains. we hiked up 2 mts, gondola-ed up 1 and drove up mt Washington for the scare-thrill of a life time! I did the 3 hours straight up mt Lafayette! we went to church in Bath, ate at the Littleton Dinner and Village Pizza (the best!), and snapped photos of 15 covered bridges. Of course the hiking was spectacular! And your cabin was perfectly intimate. We enjoyed the deck, bbq, and dvd movies when we were too exhausted to do anything in the early evenings. We even left some dvds to enlarge your selection. The area of Bath was great and removed enough to not be smothered by commercialism. Easy access to everything! A GREAT escape! Thanks again, we would recommend your place in a heart beat! Jim

Owner response: Glad to hear you had such a great time at my cottage ! We also love the peace and beauty of the area. Hope you get a chance to visit here again, and thanks for the DVDs!
Three brothers on a "getaway." (one with special needs) Extremely peaceful, small lake. Cool water. Soothing afternoon "breezestorms." (We came in August.) Sunrise over the lake; breakfast on the screened in porch. No bugs anywhere, however. Plenty of room for us. Full kitchen, utensils for the gas grill. New step-in shower (just right for the special needs guy). Small rowboat and floating dock. Bring sweatshirts and blankets! A few nights felt like late Autumn (perfect after the humidity of southern CT, from where we came.) Very clean; well-maintained. Quiet neighbors. Shaw's supermarket minutes away. We three have been doing this every summer for about ten years. This cabin suits us best out of all of the others we've tried. Wish I were still up there!

Year Purchased: 1986
About the owner: I am a business owner who lives in Massachusetts, but love to get away to the White Mountains for rest and relaxation. I have a local property manager and cleaning service for the benefit of my tenants if anything is required. I like to rent the cottage to people who respect the property and the quiet location.
Why the Owner Chose Bath:
I originally purchased this property for my own use, but as I seem to have less and less time for vacationing, I decided to rent the cottage during times that I will not be occupying it.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
This is a great place to de stress from the hectic world! The forest and the lake are wonderful surroundings, away from city and town life. Bath is close by for shopping, restaurants, groceries, and laundry. One of my favorite places is Lost River caves which is close by, but there are many beautiful spots. The Fall is also a great time to visit.
