My rather large family just spent a week here, and we had a great time. The location of the home, just 2/10 of a mile from the west end-of-the-road, was perfect. We rented a kayak from the Pelican's Nest (he delivers, and just like everything on the island, the length of rental is 'island time') and since the Gulf was pretty whipped up, we had no trouble walking it across the street to the bay (empty lots and a smooth sand pathway!), where the waters were calmer. We had a great time on the Duke coming out of Dauphin Island Marina, again on island time, where our captain Ray kept the fishing net out until dolphins showed up for our kids. The crew picked out all the perfect feeding fish and handed them to the kids (and adults--it was too fun!) to feed the dolphins. We easily had a dozen or more surrounding the boat. The kitchen in this house is very well equipped, there's no reason to eat out except to get a Rainbow pizza at Island Rainbow, a nice lunch at Lighthouse Bakery, and some hand-dipped ice cream at Pelican's Nest. Don't forget the pecan cinnamon rolls at Lighthouse for breakfast. I recommend skipping Barnacle Bill's for a full meal, but could be fun for a snack. Islanders had great blue crab claws, and outstanding gumbo. The house has a bunch of beach toys, a few beach chairs, and beach towels, too. The layout of the home is great, the main living area is vast with the four bedrooms on the four corners, and so many bathrooms was great for clean-up after a day at the beach for a crowd.Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you very much for a fantastic review. Sounds like a 6 star review!!

Year Purchased: 2006
About: My husband and I have been visiting Dauphin Island since 1987, first staying for long weekends and then a couple of weeks per year. We brought our children, then included their spouses and now our grandchildren. We bought our house in 2005 and, after Hurricane Katrina destroyed it, built the present house in 2006. Dauphin Island is a place where everyone can enjoy the peace and beauty of nature. Children can play in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, build forts, volcanoes and castles in the sand on the beach or under the house. Parents, grandparents can watch from the decks or the hammock or sit in lounge chairs on the beach. It is a family place; a place to build wonderful memories for all.
Why Dauphin Island:
It is beautiful and unspoiled and the people are very friendly..
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Peace, nature, beauty that renews the human spirit and inner tranquility
