Log Cabin Retreat at Silent Meadows
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:No
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Our log cabin built in 2003 from old pines that were milled on our property is located in the very private Silent Meadows neighborhood just 10 minutes from Lake Glenville, 25 from Cashiers and Sylva. The cabin is a very small jewel perfect for a single or a couple desiring the cool and quiet of a high mountain retreat. At 4500', the nights are almost always cool in summer.
The cabin overlooks a small pond with pastoral views of forest and meadow, eleven acres total. There is a sleeping loft for visiting children or adults - though only the one bathroom, so we find that overnight visitors are best if they are children (adult or otherwise!) or good friends!
This is not a place for those desiring an active nightlife, but rather a place to nurture the soul and breathe in the beauty of our mountains.
The cabin is not accessible by motorcycle due to gravel road .
Owners also have a vintage river cottage (circa 1925) on the Okatie River between Beaufort, Bluffton and Savannah for rent by the week or month beginning summer 2010. VRBO #307304

My husband and I were looking for a fall getaway and this cabin was the perfect answer! It was everything we were hoping it would be. I don't suggest 2 couples going unless you know each other really well as bathroom is off of main bedroom. The cabin is cozy and adorable and location is so great! It is an experience getting there, but very scenic drive up the mountain. I would not try to drive a sports car up. The Arrowmont Riding Stables is right across the road if you are interested in riding. Their stables were the only one that appealed to us because of us being experienced riders. Also great for beginners. You definitely want to take groceries with you. We cooked on the grill most nights. Went to Highlands, Cashiers, and visited the wonderful waterfalls in the area. Our favorite lunch places were Cornucopia in Cashiers and Wild Thymes in Highlands. Again, this cabin is awesome and centrally located to many attractions. The owner also called us the first night to make sure we arrived ok and that the cabin was in good shape. We appreciated that. You will not have cell phone or computer connections at the cabin. There is a land line phone in the cabin. We are looking forward to going again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

Our stay at Silent Meadows was fantastic. The cabin was quaint, clean, convenient...everything was just as advertised. It was secluded (although Cashiers is less than 30 minutes away), but we never wanted to leave anyway! We will definitely be returning one day...and SOON.Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

This is a wonderful place to stay for quiet days doing nothing or going out for mountain drives, hikes, and kayaking. You really feel like you have escaped the hubbub of daily life! Everything was as we had expected, clean, neat, and organized. The location, the landscape and pond, the cabin...all are superb. Thanks for making this place available to those of us in need of a retreat and peace and quiet! I will recommend this place to all my friends!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

The cabin was great for the two of us. It would be good for four. It is the perfect place if you are looking for a peaceful, private stay. It is unique to only hear birds.....We never saw another person when at the cabin and very large meadow. The small pond you looked at from the front porch really made the mornings and evenings perfect. No problems at all with the cabin. Sleeping was perfect. The drive from the main road to the cabin is definitely scenic but I do recommend you use a vehicle that drives well on a mountain gravel road. We had no problem with our Toyota Sienna but we did have to use low gear at a few places. We learned quickly and had no problems. Bring your groceries - you don't want to go down and back up more than once a day. We headed out each day on a day trip and had no problem getting back before dark. In the town of Franklin I recommend a great restaurant called Caffee Rei.... Most folks want to head for Cashiers or Highlands featuring many good places to eat but we found Franklin to be the best place for us. Plenty of great little stores selling antiques and good stuff and then the Caffee Rel made for a perfect lunch or dinner.......check Franklin out - very friendly town.......Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

This cabin could not have been better suited to the two of us. When we drove up the driveway, we knew we had chosen well. The gardens surrounding the house are beautifully landscaped. The pretty pond out front is full of fish. There are trails all over the mountainside which we accessed from the property. The most amazing thing was that there was absolutely no road noise. The bullfrogs serenaded us at dusk, but otherwise it really was quiet. There are also no other houses in view. We did not miss the expansive mountain vista, because where we were was so lovely. The house is attractive, nicely furnished and comfortable, with everything we needed. We are foodies and love to prepare great meals. All the tools we needed were available and of good quality. When we wanted more activity we had access to Cashiers and Highlands and to the Panthertown Wilderness area, where we enjoyed hiking. Lake Glenville is just up the road, as well. This trip we did not even make it there for a swim or boating, as we had planned, but we will be back. The owner called the day we arrived to make sure we had everything we needed and was very helpful in arranging cleaning services around our departure. We loved this sweet little spot.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at this beautiful cottage. There are great trails to walk or simply just sit on the front porch and watch the fish in the pond. The elevation made the weather pristene in the middle of a long hot summer. If you want to get away, this is the place. Spent most of our time reading in the hammock. Directions were perfect and everything is as seen on the website.Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

The property was well discribed and met our expectations. It was just what we were looking for. The directions were excellent. Perfect location to get away and explore the surround areas. A couple of things we would suggest: 1.) Provide more bath towels 2.) There was a strong dog odor around the couch area. We put a bed spread over the couch that helped with the odor. 3.) Purchase a new coffee pot. There was a after taste with the current pot.3.) Provide some suggestions for local restaurants.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Rug has been washed and there is no longer a "dog odor". There are more towels. The coffee maker is just fine. Other guests have not complained about it. There is an entire drawer full of restaurant menus, places to go, things to do, hikes to take which this guest must not have perused.

About the owner: The owners live in the Low country of South Carolina and are a realtor and a fine arts consultant. They cherish their mountain cabin and have made it a true mountain retreat. Avid hikers and conservationists they would like to share it with like minded people.
Why the Owner Chose Cashiers:
We looked for 25 years to find the right property for us. The weather is wonderful in the summer, the fall is beautiful, it is private and secluded but we can go into a choice of 3 or 4 towns within a 30 minute drive.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
We enjoy the tranquility, hiking and picnicing in nearby Panthertown and off the Blue Ridge Parkway. We enjoy exploring the mountains and also just sitting on the porch, puttering in the garden.
