Why the Owner Chose Dolores
This has been our family home for forty years. When mom and dad left the house to us we wanted to be able to keep it in the family for future generations. The location is second to none. This is a uniquely beautiful environment. Every time we are there we feel like "Heidi" in the classic children's story....it is that beautiful!
The Unique Benefits of this Lodge
The house (lodge now) is so comfortable and family friendly. We love going up on the deck at night with a spotlight and seeing elk and deer close by. There are wonderful hunting opportunities right up the hill from the house. It is very secluded with only another family member's house in view, but yet it is an easy drive to Telluride, Durango, Cortez, even Moab. The summer days are warm and the nights are cool. No air conditioning needed. And the stars....millions of them!!

We have stayed at this lodge several times and it is a haven...we never want to leave! We have 3 young children and haven't had any problems as noted in the prior review. The lodge is very comfortable with more extras than other places we've stayed, and the onsite help was delightful. The views are superb and the wildlife is wonderful. We will be going back next year!

Beautiful Home not for small children

We stayed here unbeknownst to us there was construction going on, there were nails all over the driveway, lots of breakable items in the house we had to move so the kids would not get to them. The cabinet in the kitchen was broken and put back in place so when we tried to open it, it fell off. Found some dirty dishes in the drawers one knife covered with who knows what kind of red substance. Stains on the rugs. We cleaned and scrubbed this place leaving it better than we found it and still didn't get our deposit back. This home is in a beautiful location, however I would never bring my small children here again. This home is not kid friendly.
Owner response:We apologize for any inconvience, that is not our intention. We have taken great care in creating a safe and homey envirornment. Our guests, both before and after your stay, have all loved to vacation in our home. If you had allowed our host to remain on the property during your stay he would have been able to immediately address your concerns as they occured. This is an older family home and is at the end of its remodeling. We have removed the nails from the driveway and have instructed our cleaning staff to check all the cabinets for any soiled items. After our renters leave, we send them in to clean and trust that they charge the appropitate amount. Our housekeeper spent over seven hours cleaning after your departure. This amount was passed on to you and the remainder of the cleaning deposit was returned to you per the agreement. Our home is children friendly, there are games, movies, and the out-of-doors to play but they need to be supervised for their safety. This is especially important with a large group of children, which you had (11). The antiques inside are to create a friendly, inviting atmosphere but can be removed at your request. We heard that the children had a wonderful time playing in the spa and riding on your ATVs. Your suggestions are appreciated so we can continue to improve our accomodations. Sincerely, Barbara and Carol Bradley

We enjoyed our stay. The place is homie with lots of room. Dining room table seated all 10 of us. Great for anyone with a large group. Lots of hiking and sightseeing within 1 hour. Convenient to Telluride and Mesa Verde. The kitchen was very functional and organized. The owner is friendly and very reasonable to deal with. WIFI was decent, considering the very rural location. Beds and furniture are comfortable. Highly recommended.

We had a group of six, 2 adults and 4 teenagers. We were all VERY comfortable, and loved the location! We hiked to the top of the mountain, we played in the river, and just enjoyed relaxing on the porch with the hummingbirds fighting over possession of the multiple feeders. We spent time in Telluride (DO NOT go the Floradora saloon, if you have a large party...), Durango, Silverton, etc. and this was a nice centralized location for reasonable access to all of them. The cabin far enough away from the towns to give you enough quietness to relax, but only about 20 minutes drive to get to stores - a nice balance! The weather (late July) was awesome. I guess there is heat and maybe air conditioning, but all we needed to do was open/close windows to regulate the temperature in the house - we never even looked for any "normal" HVAC controls. We had to work hard to break a sweat :-)

I rented the cabin for my husband and his friend in the last of October in 2010 for a hunting trip. The cabin was very spacious and clean, The views were wonderful. When they arrived the leaves had the country side full of colors. While we were there we got a good snow. It's like we got to see two seasons at once. I can't say enough about the owners they are wonderful people.

My family had a wonderful time staying at this lodge. Communication with the owners was fabulous: all of our questions were answered; our needs were addressed; they were very easy to reach. The photos and descriptions are accurate. Our only surprise was that everything was better than we expected! The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was very well appointed (the owners even had spices, baking ingredients, pancake syrup, etc. available for our use!), laundry was convenient, and the view --breathtaking! We saw hummingbirds, chipmunks, deer, elk, numerous birds and more stars than we'd ever seen - all from comfortable lounges on the deck. We were within an easy round trip drive to Mesa Verde, El Morro, Aztec Ruins, Monument Valley, Navajo Memorial, San Juan Skyway, Ouray and other places we didn't have time to see. It was so nice to come back "home" each evening, cook a meal and relax on the deck, read in easy chairs or watch a movie. And then to end each day, we went to sleep by the sound of the Dolores River. We didn't want to leave. Thanks!

My family and I decided to go to Colorado for some outdoor adventures and relaxation. This was the perfect place for both! A lodge tucked up on the hill of a beautiful valley with the most spectacular views. The lodge was very clean and comfortable. It had everything we needed and more. We really enjoyed cooking our own meals in the kitchen and grilling on the spacious deck (where we ate most of our meals). On several occasions, we went hiking in the morning up in the valley behind the lodge. At the top of one of the hills there were amazing views of the valley below. On the way back, my son spotted some “big birds”, which turned out to be a group of turkeys. That was the first time my kids have seen turkey that wasn’t sliced up on their plate. We drove to Durango and rode the train from Durango to Silverton on the Narrow Gauge Railroad. The breathtaking views of the canyons made it a very enjoyable trip for the entire family. The kids were tired by the time we arrived in Silverton, so we rode on a bus back to Durango. The following day, my husband took the kids fishing in the Dolores River right down the hill from the lodge. I stayed back and spent the day enjoying the peace and quiet. A restful day of reading on the deck and watching some classic movies was perfect for a hard-working, tired mom. :) Overall, the trip was fantastic and the accommodation was perfect for the entire family. I will definitely recommend this lodge to my family and friends. We plan to come back next year! Thank you for everything!

My boyfriend and I have been living in Tucson Arizona and was looking for a rental to meet old friends from Denver Colorado. Bear Creek Mountain Lodge was the perfect place to meet half way to reunite. We partically enjoyed the serenity and peacefulness of the forest. One of the highlights was the day I stepped onto the deck and was startled by the appearance of four elk up the valley. I made a gasp and almost scared them away but they hung around long enough for all of us to enjoy. The atmosphere of the cabin was very charming and welcoming. Our bed was super comfortable and we loved that we had the fireplace to keep us warm. The kitchen was fully furnished so we enjoyed cooking our meals together. The cabin was close enough to Mountain Village where there is a Health Food grocery store and a free gondola that takes you into Telluride. The waterfalls in Telluride and the scenery on the drive there was beautiful. We also had a great time visiting Mesa Verde Ruins. There were many stops along the way and it took us back in time. We loved socializing, playing game, and soaking in the hot tub after a long day of hiking. Our dogs had tons of fun running in the wild chasing the ground squirrels and each other too. It was easy to set up the lodge through Barb Bradley and the price was very affordable for the sixth of us. I reccommend staying there for anyone who likes to get away from the big city. My friends and I had the best time getting reacquainted and enjoyed each others company in a wonderful setting.
