Arkville cabin description
Our cabin is on Pakatakan Mountain 'an Indian name meaning where the sweet grass grows' and is the highest mountain in Delaware county NY. It is a great setting for a romantic getaway, family vacations, outdoor adventures or just time to unwind within the beautiful area of the Western Catskills Mountains! The cabin is on 9 private woodland acres bordering New York State Forest Preserve in Delaware County NY near the town of Arkville 45 miles west of Kingston NY.
Why rent with us over other properties? We feel we offer an up/scale cabin with all the amenities you could ask for in a beautiful private woodland setting at a very reasonable rate. Please read our reviews.
The cabin's in a very private setting with its own driveway. It is the last house on the main road up the mountain. There are no other houses behind the cabin, just thousands of wild forest acres with logging trails and NYS state trail you can explore all day long. Deer, turkey, rabbits, many birds and other forest creatures can often be seen by the Guest house on many occasions.
The guest house has two bedrooms and one bathroom. One features a queen bed and the other a full sized bed. Additionally there is a pull out sofa in the living room with a full sized bed. There one can enjoy watching the fire in the wood burning fireplace insert as one drifts off to sleep.
The cabin also has a large flat screen TV, a nice selection of books and movies as well as board games for you indoor entertainment. In warm months there is small volleyball/bad mitten net set up on grounds and horseshoe pits.
You can do as much outdoor activity as you want or just relax in the cabin and read a book or watch a movie or just create sumptuous meals in the guest house's new large eat in kitchen which contains all the necessities for your cooking and dining pleasure!
Its totally up to you!
Take some time to visit the area antique shops and the Catskill Artisan's Guild Retail Shop in Margaretville or take a ride on a historic train, swim nearby in one of the areas 5 scenic mountain lakes or 3 small public pools. There is great bicycling roads (both road and mountain), fantastic motorcycling the back roads, and now kayaking or canoeing on the scenic Papacton reservoir as well as other remote lakes. Also shop at the local, colorful farmer's market Saturdays mid/May to Mid/October.
Early spring features mountain views, summer, a richness of green and autumn of course, an array of colors and apples on the property's 5 apple trees.
Wildlife is often seen right from the deck. The property grounds feature logging roads which connect you to miles of state trails across acres and acres of pristine forest. You can have a great hiking and nature experience right at the guest house property! Hiking equipment and a GPS are provided.
Finally, please read what our guests have said about their stay with us. We hope you will consider us for your Catskill Vacation home!

A few days of bliss........Guest comment entered by owner
A few days of bliss........
Robin and Mike...how do you know when you are happy? When that huge sigh of contentment flows out of you as you lean back in the chair and realize that for a few days the everyday world of concerns and responsibilities is not something you need to worry about. Your guest house is a haven and we love every minute of our stay here. The morning mist...wandering on the property nibbling on apples from your apple trees,..coming home from hiking to find deer wandering around like puppies.....,preparing some appetizers and hanging out of the deck...... staring at the blanket of stars and the milky way and even some shooting stars...listening to the birds and trying to figure out whose footsteps are crunching through the leaves..., the smell of the wood-burning stove...a comfy bed to sleep in after a day of hiking...looking at the fall colored leaves drifting to the ground. Everything we need for a few days of bliss is right here. This lovely house is so thoughtfully appointed with everything that we need. Thank you for another visit filled with comfortable happy memories.....

Peaceful, Sparkling Clean and Great Scenic Roads
Robin and Mike You have an absolutely great guest house. So peaceful in such great condition and sparkling clean! That is so important. Even with a little rain, we had some very nice and breathtaking motorcycle rides. Thanks for the tips on some awesome roads Mike. Sorry we could not stay forever. Our best wishes to both of you and we will be telling everyone about PMGH.

lovely cottage, perfect moutain retreat
We were campers for years prior to our "cottage/cabin days", and always adhered to the rule that we should leave a place we visit as we found it or better, so always try to do so. Again, can't thank you enough for allowing us the pleasure of spending a week in such a lovely cottage in which no possible convenience has been overlooked. We have never rented anything as perfect as your mountain retreat. I usually carry certain items necessary for the meals I wish to prepare but, on this trip, they remained packed as all of them were already in your kitchen. It was a comfy, cozy week which we plan to repeat next spring if you will be so kind as to accommodate us once we can confirm dates. Also, we have a nice memento of our trip. When we visited the Home Goods Store we purchased two of your very pretty pottery garlic dishes and enjoyed a garlic and oil dip with bread from the Bread Alone store with our dinner. Our best, Marge, Lee, Ruth and Dick

"Peaceful, well set up, great place"
The owners describe this as a cabin they have set up for family and friends that they rent out when it is not occupied by those two groups. You really do feel like Robin and Mike take great care of you -- just like a family member or friend would. They have been incredibly thoughtful in how things are set up. The cabin has a ton of useful information about the area and activities...We were interested in hiking, and when we showed up there was a hiking guide, a GPS unit, extra backpack set up with hiking gear, and even orange vests for us to wear since it was hunting season. Everything about the place was welcoming and comfortable -- even the heat in the cabin was perfect. We were there during 45-50 degree rainy weather. The place felt cozy and warm. It also felt very private. Though Mike and Robin's place is on the same property, they let us be in peace. It was comforting to know they were there if we had any problems. But also great to have the place to ourselves. It was so silent at night - We never slept so well!

What a Great Week!
Guest comment Left at the Cabi: "Dear Robin and Mike... We watched the sun come up over the mountains in the East as we ate our last breakfast in the Catskills. It has been a great week!. Not even the one rainy day could spoil it! Yesterday as we walked around Alder lake and discovered the trail to Big Pond we found ourselves wishing we had taken 2 weeks......one to get the lay of the land and another to return to our favorite spots or just spend more time sitting in the sun or buying more pottery from you....We will remember this trip always...

About the owner: Hi, we are Mike & Robin Tanner. After having a weekend getaway house for many years, a time came to leave our busy city lives and professional careers and make a new life and home in the beautiful Catskill mountains of New York. We never regretted this decision. Robin pursued her interests in becoming a potter and started Loving Earth Studio and sells her wonderful pottery at local stores and crafts shows. I am now retired but quite busy with my outdoor hobbies and taking care of our property. A few years ago, we acquired a cabin adjacent to our home with its own 9 acre woodland parcel with access to trails to the NYS forest preserve lands and over a year of hard sweat and labor and way over budget, we totally renovated the cabin or as we now call it, The Guest House.?. From the positive comments we received from friends and relatives who stayed as our guests, we decided to offer it for rent to those wanting to visit the Catskills when not in use. That is how we began our vacation rental business. Robin and I will do our best to make our 'Guest House' cabin your home away from home for peace and quiet and enjoying the beauty of our wonderful area. !!! Mike and Robin Tanner
Why the Owner Chose Arkville:
We made our lives here in the Catskill mountain area of New York because of the great natural beauty and energy. The Rental property is located on its own private driveway on 9 acres on the side of Pakatakan Mountain near Margaretville New York In Delaware County.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
We have pristine wilderness behind us while we are only 2 miles from the Town of Margaretville which is often mentioned in travel articles as a great low key getaway place with nice shops and a newly built Freshtown grocery store for family shopping. You have a wildness experience while not feeling in isolation. The best of both worlds.
